Nice one as always Simo-San. The Kempachis sure are a force of their own, be they mellow or bloodthirsty psychotics. It's rather interesting that Retsu apparently tried to redeem herself from a blood soaked life by saving lives only to have it all return as Soul Society teetered on collapse. Yet again given first generation Gotei were a bunch of psychos it's not surprising things turned out like that.

Technically there have only been 2 kenpachi... Yachiru who founded squad 11 and Zaraki who defeated her...

The fact that she's the first kenpachi makes it make even less sense that she needed to die for zaraki to take up the mantle, the one HE ALREADY WAS GOING BY MIND YOU lmfao, she wasn't just a former kenpachi, she was also the best healer and also someone they definitely could've used when they returned.. I've said this since I first finished the manga, the writing was TRASH fr smfh.. there was so much convoluted nonsense thru out the story that just pissed me tf off.

For Unahona to give up fighting and master healing something dramatic happened where she swore off fighting and instead mastered healing cuz just think about if she were to revert back to her old ways who could stop her

In the flashback when first meeting preteen kenpachi it shows she doesn’t give up fighting she still does it but secretly. She had her captains cloak meaning she already joined the gotei and even her subordinate says that he know she came out there to quench her thirst of fighting but can’t find a proper opponent until she meets kenpachi. I assume she still did this over the centuries but why she didn’t just battle kenpachi time from time I just don’t know. Or maybe they did several times but Kubo never mentions it.
