The owner wanted to make sure she would be kept safe and not killed by the new owners. They are great for killing cockroaches but can also go for small geckos and even mice! I live in Australia in a big old share house. I recently went away for a week and my landlord rang me the day before I came back to tell me there seemed to be a bird caught in my room and wanted my permission to go in and rescue/release it. I had some freakout thoughts about the possible destruction, but resigned myself to the futility of stressing about it. A few hours later I got an update and was told the magpie (yeah, bigger than a sparrow) had been in the room for about 24 hours, but had now been released back into the wild through an opened window. My return revealed the bird had been on every surface - even the top of my double bass - and somehow managed to shit non-stop for those 24 hours. Apart from a few things knocked off the mantlepiece it took a couple of days to clean up the last bit of excrement. Interestingly, there was no discernible smell. The magpie had found its way into my room down through the chimney even though it had been blocked up - obviously not completely. I have this weird feeling of a bond with this creature who made itself at home in my living space for a day of its life. Nature! It always wins.

When bees swarm like that, it means that they are on the hunt for a new home! They’re just taking a little break to rest or, if they have a queen with them, because the queen can’t fly for a prolonged time. :) They are usually very docile and calm since they don’t have a hive to protect, but it’s still best to just let them be or let a professional handle them.

They have incredibly sharp teeth, and can also carry a disease (a virus) which isn't nice to catch. Avoid where possible, do not handle or hand feed. And never park your expensive car under any tree where they sleep during the day. I once saw a huge migration of flying foxes, who were following the highway north from Brisbane to (presumably, eventually, Frazer Island) which stretched from the outskirts of Brisbane all the way to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland like a black, undulating, continuous river. It was astonishing. Also slightly disturbing when you see that many animals leaving an area all at the same time...we travelled for more than an hour and they were overhead and spread out on either side of a four lane highway the entire way. Literally thousands, if not millions.

Just leave the animals alone and you won't get hurt. The problem with some tourists is when they see certain animals they haven't seen besides in pictures, they become curious (as we humans do) and go up to it in hope to give it a pat or whatever. Then in the end, they end up getting hurt.

Yeah huntsmen are annoying because they’re huge & run quite quickly but redbacks, even small ones you stay the hell away from. I grew up rural & they were everywhere. Nothing a thong (flip flop) couldn’t handle but still. We had lots of fruit spiders & they would hang from trees and they make a loud BANG when you hit them with a metal dustpan, they’re backs are that hard. Aaaaand those aren’t even the worst ones 😂

Did you ever have a dinner set with an extra large platter (for serving roasts/meats/whatever)? Well my son came upstairs once, said MUM HUGE SPIDER (he was white as a sheet) and I'm like "Yeah okay" and he said NO NO HUGE HUGE so I arm myself with a jar, and stiff piece of paper to capture this spider and there is this absolutely Grandmother of all Grandmothers of a Huntsman sitting on the downstairs living room wall...and including the leg span, I figured out it was as big as my biggest serving platter across. At least 12 inches across (because it's legs were spread out). Its body was huge. It had to be the biggest spider ever, and I didn't have a working camera at the time. Also there was no way I was going to stand beside it with something in my hand to indicate scale. We left it downstairs, prayed to all the Gods it wouldn't come upstairs, and bathed out of a bucket for a week (luckily the toilet was upstairs, and downstairs was just recreational area)...one of my kids asked "what does it eat?" and I replied "Anything it wants to"...When I left that house you can darn bet I checked EVERY SINGLE UNDERSURFACE of every chair, table, cupboard, behind the curtains before pulling them down...Never saw it again. P.S. Luckily I have witnesses. Also don't do drugs lol.

I'm from Aus, and used to live in an old cottage. You couldn't keep them out. They'd come inside to shed. Scariest part was finding these large exo skeletons and knowing there was now an even bigger spider somewhere in your house 😆 At least they didn't eat much, unlike the bloody Quendas who'd come in through our cat door and demand food like those monkey's in Bali 😆 cheeky buggars, very cute though, especially when they brought their babies to meet you. They'd be like. "Here's the kids, so gonna need more food tonight. Is it in this container, cos I feel like there's food in here. I'm gonna go ahead and open it cos ur taking too long" ahhh I miss 'em... Sometimes. 💙

People often think at first that they're a giant rat, but they aren't at all. Plus they can get ridiculously tame as you can see from my above comment. Not uncommon for people with bigger bush properties to have regular visits from the local Quendas looking for their nightly hand out. I had several on my property, but only one mother and later her young were ever bold enough to just stroll through my cat door. She'd come in, walk right past the cat and scratch on my jeans to let me know it was feeding time actually! She even nipped me on the ankle once cos I was taking too long opening the rolled oats jar 😆 Quite the little characters they turned out to be.

Am an Aussie who grew up with huntsman spiders sharing our house and even gave them names. I will always catch them in a glass and put them outside but am now more careful after flicking a monster one from the glass out the back door and 10 mins later felt something crawling on the back of my neck. I was screaming, running around trying to get it off and we ended up catching it again minus one leg and this time I made sure where it landed by hearing the thud. My teenage son is terrified of them and was no help at all, just laughing hysterically at a distance. I am so careful now about knowing where they’ve landed. The sensation of that huge hairy monster, and knowing it had been sitting there while I didn’t know still creeps me out. Still will never kill them though, even redbacks who rarely come in and have a nasty bite.

Re: All the birds - Did anyone else think of the third Resident Evil movie with that desert scene? :) Also, I believe the birds are starlings, they gather in extremely large numbers and move together in a murmuration. it's pretty incredible/interesting to watch... from a safe distance lol

The cane toads on the snake - they’re toxic & an introduced species with no natural predators. I have a huntsman in my house, he’s not as big as that picture. His name is Bruce. He eats the other spiders, flies, cockroaches, mossies (mosquitoes). He’s the best flatmate in the world.

Actually the Keelback snake eats them and absorbs their toxin to use it in protection.

ruby stepp the snake isn’t in the same areas as the toads & eating toads is still fatal to the snake.

6:37 this is actually a leopard gecko shed, they will tend to eat their sheds after shedding! Nobody is really sure why but they think it is to re-absorb nutrients or something along those lines :)

And thats why the rate of extinctions is accelerating massively. These amazing creatures might not be cute fluffikins, in our narrow view, but all of them are vital in a food chain. Its when we humans destroy habitats as well as creatures, we lose yet another precious part of the natural world....

Flying foxes are absolutely precious. They dont mean any harm. They get caught in nets all the time in Australia, I follow one lady that saves them. Super sweet animals.

It makes me thankful to be in the United States. We do have spiders here, but they are generally thousands of times smaller than that huntsman spider. Plus, the only spiders we have that can do serious damage to humans are the black widow and the brown recluse, thankfully neither of which I have ever encountered. No hourglass and no violin in North America means the spider is most likely harmless.

PolymorphicPenguin black widows aren’t even that dangerous. They are more likely to cause discomfort. Oddly, the most dangerous things in the video would be a toss up between that lovely, lid lifter fungus and the rattlesnake (which are quite venomous)...unless a person is allergic to honey bees. Anaphylaxis kills faster than the others.
