I lost 120 pounds in the last two years, learned to put on make-up, dyed my hair, left an abusive marriage of 21 years and now NOBODY recognizes me. I look better at 42 than I did at 22. :) Update: My final weight loss came in at 143 pounds and I am still LOVING life! Turning 44 this month and am celebrating it with my new husband and our three beautiful children (from my previous marriage). My ex got the help he needed and we now co-parent as friends (forgiveness is hard, but necessary to move on). Thank you all for the awesome words of encouragement and love!

I’m almost 60, never went with fashion, except my own. (It showed & I had NO fashion sense) I went past all the fads, even though I wanted to dye my hair, I was too afraid. I had those coke bottle glasses. I am blind. 20/400 20/700 vision. Braces, too. I was 3’ 9” in middle school. Picked on lots. I lived for everyone else. Now I have learned to treat myself better, finally! I have dyed my hair, got a mani pedi and I finally don’t feel guilty doing things for myself, even if there’s no special reason. Yup, I’ve finally learned to treat myself at times and not regret or have buyers remorse. I have 2 beautiful grown adult sons. I’m learning how to do makeup from KZbin. (Quarantined or I’d go to a pro) I have no eyebrows so I’ll need help there. Pretty hairless. Family trait on mom’s side. I’ll be 60 in January but I feel I could pass as younger. Hopefully by 60, I’ll know myself better and be able to look decent with makeup. Maybe then I can send my pics in.

Honey it was never you with the problem, those that think fashion mean anything are the ones with the problem. Clothes are just to protect you from weather, nothing else. I've always laughed at people that waste money on labels because they are the in thing. Peer pressure to conform to ridiculous fads is sad and dangerous to children and it's even worse when parents fall for it too. Being yourself and happy with yourself is the only thing that matters and that should never be wrapped up in how others perceive you. I had an awesome mother that made me very aware of how most of those people really felt inadequate inside and hid behind the going trends to blend in and conform so they wouldn't be targets. See though that is the problem, no one should be a target over such superficial things, it's a disease of society and their craze inducing commercialisation of everything human. And I pity those that think conformity is good. The really sad thing is those that think they do not conform, by going goth, metal, punk, hippy, hipster, whatever. They only conform to another trend and pretend they are outside the conformity. Yikes , sorry that was long and maybe a crazy rant on my part. lol

Kindness (and bullying) can make a lasting impact. A few years ago I was bartending a VIP event and this young man comes up to me. He had just won a directors award and was celebrating. He immediately asked if I was Tera Greene and I said yes. And as I clicked into who I thought he was, he goes, “I don’t know if you remember me, but we went to middle school together and you always were so nice to me. I was bullied so much and you had friends with you all the time, and you always were so nice to me”. I was like, “Matthew?!” And it was. It made my heart sink. I didn’t know he was getting bullied, I just thought he was someone who needed smiles and hellos for some reason. 🤷♀️ He definitely had a glow up, but it was his spirit that caught my attention, me thinks. Anyway, I had my own bouts with bullying, but I’m glad I wasn’t a jerk 😂

I often find that those who have been bullied or abused, are often the nicest of people. They know what it feels like to be treated badly, so they do not do it to others. In school bullies can make us feel like failures. Yet in adulthood, most bullies amount to nothing, and those that were bullied blossom and fly.

I'm a little conflicted on this one: I saw a dermatologist a lot when I was a teenager. He assured my mom and me that what a person eats has absolutely no effect on making their skin good or bad, and sold me really expensive retin-a which did sort of clear up my acne but also made my face bright red and really sensitive. It wasn't until I was an adult that I started drinking a lot of water and eating things like cucumbers and grapes that I started to have good skin. Now I can see a serious difference in my skin week to week, based solely on what I've been eating.

Growing up with acne is harsh. I am 50 now and went through Accutane in my late 20's. Your video made me remember that with acne, you don't really care about hair, make-up or clothes. You only pray that your concealer holds up until the end of the school day. For the last 20 years or so, I have collected cute clothes, have several cute ways to do my hair (lots of clip ins for different looks) and I spend 80% of the time doing make-up on my eyes (the fun part!) and just brush my cheeks with some powder or blush. It gets SO MUCH better!!! Anyone reading here - you are not vain to go to the dermo and get whatever you need - lasers, prescriptions, facials. It's your face and you can't live your fullest life if you know everyone is thinking "she could be pretty if it weren't for her zits." Congrats if you can be confident when puss is oozing from your face, but that is not expected of anyone. If your parent's don't care, and you don't have money, ask other people in your life to help you. So many people want to help you but they aren't going to bring it up and possibly insult you. Get help so you don't spend as much time as I did feeling less than.

Bullying have a major effect on self confidence. I remember being bullied from as early as my memories go all the way up to about 4 years ago (I'm 31 now). I have had some really low times but I overcame. I can't even remember how many times I've cried because it sucked for just being me. I was the one nobody wanted to be paired up with, I was never chosen to be on a team, my voice never count and I was only befriended because my creativity was valuable at the time. They exploited my talents and used me but never wanted to be my friend. But I still have a heart of gold. I will never change me.

Bullying is vile and I hate it more than most, it was a major factor the led to my alcoholism. My main bully was a person who should have been my protector when my parents divorced. I am stronger for it today, I also have greater empathy for others but that doesn’t compensate for being twelve years old terrified of going home. Life does get better though. I can empathise. I was in the "system" growing up and when I did go back to my mum I was neglected. So I was always the new kid at school that looked wrong and never fit. I was bullied consistantly. As Charlotte said though, it has made me the person I am today. Stronger and able to cope a lot better than most. Its up to you what you do with it. Bullying is horrible and I wish my childhood was better. But it is what it is. Take it and make it your own. All experiences are just that, experiences. You take the good from it, learn from it and discard the rest. You are a beautiful person. You just have to see that too.

Hey, Charlotte! I think I understood what you meant by "people who suffered bullying are more empathetic", but it seemed like in the end it was positive and we should thank our bullies for making us better people. I am 32 and still remember the mean people saying that I would never be pretty, even if I lose weight, or calling me boring. One guy that studied with me even said to my ex-boyfriend (they were friends) that he was "disappointed" with him because he was dating me. I know that I am a good person today, but I would never thank it for the bullying I suffered in my childhood. Even after much therapy I still have self-esteem problems. I love your videos, they are adorable, but I wanted to share my thoughts regarding your speech at the beginning of the video.

I agree. I was a kind, positive, bubbly person before bullying, and lost that light and happiness in me for ten years. I was still kind because I never wanted to make anyone else feel as horrible as I did, but it made me careful, anxious, afraid to be seen or heard, withdrawn… It took years to even figure out what parts of my personality were mine and which were just a means of survival to avoid bullying, even years after it ended as an adult. Not to mention the severe depression and an anxiety disorder that made me a sad, lonely and scared husk of myself. It’s still hard to let down my walls and try to be myself, now that I know that that is. Only bad things come out of bullying.

absolutely right about cystic acne...growing up, I had flawless skin, even in my hormonal teenage years...then 4 years ago, my face was full of cystic acne...it's started with just one or two lumps on my forehead, and I didn't bother with it too much because I thought it was my usual period acne...and then it got worse and before I knew it, I was waking up everyday to a bloody pillow case because my acne had burst during the night (I move a lot when I sleep, as many people had told me)...I had to totally start a strict skincare regiment (I had none before because I never needed it), and the biggest help I got was from using black cumin seed oil to treat my acne (accutane is banned in my country and going to a dermatologist was too expensive for me)... Now my skin is clear of acne, it took almost 2 years (I still get the occasional period acne), but I'm still treating my acne scars...the healing process is super slow but worthwhile...

@@dragonprincess8205 Hi! Thanks so much for your kind words! I still use black cumin seed oil, but only target areas where there's an acne. I used to put it all over my face just for general moisturization, but since I use a good moisturizer that suits my skin, I don't have to use as much (black cumin seed oil is really expensive where I live). As for acne scars, I use rosehip oil, but I can only say it works for me because my acne scars are not so deep and most of it is just discoloration scars. I'm not quite sure for deep acne scars though. I heard that using derma needles help but I've never used one myself so I can't really recommend it. Oh! I've been using coix seed toner for the past year and this has also helped a lot, along with the rosehip oil. Rosehip oil is a carrier oil so you don't need to dilute it, you can just use as is. Apply it on your acne scars, let it absorb completely, and proceed with your usual skincare routine. And you might want to put on very minimal makeup (or none at all if you're comfortable with it), because I find that wearing heavy makeup for long periods of time is just not good for the skin, no matter how much "skin-friendly" the makeup product claims. I'm not a dermatologist or skin expert, but I've drawn from my own personal experiences. There are other factors to consider when trying new skincare products like your type of skin (normal/oily/dry/combination), and allergies, especially with essential oils. And if you do decide to try rosehip oil, try using 100% rosehip oil (no other essential oils mixed in) and make sure it's 'cold pressed'. I hope this helps!

As a person who needs glasses to see my own hands... It's nice that you like glasses that much and yeah they definitely can be an accessoire *but* its only nice if you get a choice... and yeah contacts are a thing but they dont really work for everyone :/ if i could see without my glasses i would occasionally wear glasses but definitely not always :3

I feel so happy for the people who reached a better place in their life, that's fucking hard and what's in your head and heart really shapes your life rather than your face. Sometimes even when we fit conventional beauty standards more we can still be hurting a bit inside, it's most important to be kind to yourself no matter what.

Cystic acne can be so debilitating when you become so depressed from it. I wouldn't let anyone take pictures of me. My face was swollen from the inflammation resulting in my face hurting even when I tried to smile or laughed, further reminding you of how hideous you feel you look. Gawd! I became an esthetician recently and all the things I thought I was doing then to help really was hurting me more. Be kind to your skin it really is about balance not stripping away oil, but yes, accutane was needed! Don't take it lightly either. It amazes me how doctors here in the states don't provide adequate monitoring during the cycle of medicine, so be careful. I had blood work done every two months to check my liver.

I was bullied. I had red hair in a time when it WASNT cool, second hand old clothes, badly banged up shoes, freckles and big teeth...oh and the bullying was fun on an emotional individual like me but it helped me get stronger, what I learned was to NEVER take people on face value and to do my best to be kind to everyone. I hated it at the time because my home life was difficult at the same time but as I said, it taught me some valuable life lessons which I never forgot. I passed those lessons on to my kids and now their kids. So to my bullies...THANK YOU (now go stick your heads down a dirty drain) lol

My wife was a natural redhead and she hated having people yell "Hey Red!" at her so she bleached her hair blonde. She had a very pale complexion and green eyes so "blonde" looked valid, and it was less trouble than being a red head. .

I feel like i had a glow up at age 15, then a serious glow down at 19-22 and i started glowing back up again from 27-30 (just turned 30 the other day) and i feel like im so far from my goal still. I was badly bullied to and it made me mentally ill, which caused me to get medication that made me feel even worse and i doubled my weight plus more. I literally gained 2 kg from eating salad cus the meds f'ed up my metabolism. Im tall, and always had lots of muscles mass for a girl cus i used to work with horses so at a weight of 70 kg i was skinny to the point of looking underweight. I gained 83 kg within the first 1,5 year of taking that f'n meds. Im off meds now and i lost about 30 kg. I went on a machine to compare my body at my worst til now and i gained a lot of muscle mass and lost lots of fat mass. Im still far from my goal but i take one day at the time cus when my stress levels increase i cant lose weight. It happens everytime but im not giving up. I want this a lot! I hope i will re-glow one day soon. People say i already do but i cant see it yet. ❤️

I didn't have acne but I was overweight. I was 135 to 150 during high school. Bully's made me feel like I was 500 pounds. I heard "you have such a pretty face" but I didn't see it until I was 50 and at that age I lost it real fast. I am 67 now and don't care any more what I see in the mirror and if you don't like it, look the other way!!! I do pray for the younger ones who are bullied and can't handle it and take their own life. thank goodness I never got that bad. I like your work girl! keep it up!

I was not fat growing up but I was very insecure and felt ugly. I look back at my pictures from jr.high and high school now and realize that my friends were right. They said I was cute but I just thought they were being good friends. My confidence in myself actually didn’t happen until I had my daughter and became overweight. I provided for us both. I worked hard, bought and paid for a house for us, we never went hungry, and I was there for her as she grew up. Yes, I was lucky to have parents that watched her for me after school for just $50.00 a week. Having her and loving and knowing I was providing for her gave me more confidence than anything or anyone ever did. She is my life’s blessing.

So many people have these life changing experiences.. I did.. within 1.5yrs, I dropped 70lbs, paid some attention to my appearance a little bit and people I’d known for YEARS had no idea who I was .. former clique members wanted to be introduced 😂.. it was amazing at the time.. but the true confidence takes longer to develop and stick.. truly OWNING yourself and eventually realizing that how some stranger “sees” you is meaningless is the key.. Being a teenager SUCKS.. but it gets better 💕
