Wow what a message ! We live in a culture embedded in victimhood. I know, I lived there for far too long. We are our own biggest problem. Our hearts deceive ourselves. Self protectiveness has blinded us. We are all crippled inside. Sin runs deep within the character of our being. It is self deceiving. Only Christ can redeem us. We profess to know God but deny his power. This should and so does cause me to tremble before our Holy God. As Begg says we need, we all need to get serious about what we really believe. Oh God, yes our world is broken! You alone oh God are the answer !! May we humble ourselves under your mighty hand. No longer trying to hide or run from you. Oh God bring our lives in line with you, bending our will unto yours. You alone are God . Have mercy oh God. Change us from the inside out for your glory and our good.!

I was not on my game as a parent.....I expected the church to do the job that was mine to do. They...are living the consequences of my lack of responsibility...and I am grieving my foolishness and sloth. My time of great influence on the forming of their character is over..for the most part. They're not reprobates, criminals or even irresponsible.....but they have turned away from God and are going their own way without Him....and only God Himself can change that. But.....I have the knowledge that He is a gracious and generous God....who is slow to anger and abounding in Love....that He is not willing that anyone should perish but that all come to salvation through Jesus Christ His Son. And in that knowledge is my Hope for them. That God in His mercy and Love will hear my prayers for my kids...and my husband.....and mercifully will deliver them from their foolishness....and my irresponsibility !

I am encouraged by your humble, heartfelt comment. I too feel that I/we have NOT been a godly example to our adult children during their formative years...At times I feel guilty and full of regrets for their not walking with the Lord today! Then I was reminded that our God is a miracle worker and a promise keeper that He loves them and cares about their salvation much more than I/we do. I will continue to lift them up in my prayers and trust our God, Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit’s mighty power to soften their hearts and open their eyes. Thank you.

Jesus condemned hypocrisy above most other sins on account of the deceitfulness it can spread around . I guess this is true of the so called evangelists that talk the talk but don't walk the walk . Jesus said " If you love me , keep my commandments " . Obedience to the word of God is the key to integrity in Christian living and this is precisely how I feel each time I listen to one of pastor Begg's messages . God looks at the heart , examines the heart and He knows the heart of men more than any human being . Let us therefore pray " Search my heart today ,O God " Greetings from Cairo , Egypt

Dear C C. It clearly says in Ephesians 6 "Children obey your parents, honor your Mother and Father and it will go well with you." Your husband is no longer a child- this is a total erroneous take on this scripture by your husband. God goes on to say in Both Genesis 2:24 and Ephesians 5 :31"That a man leaves his Father and Mother and is united to his wife- they become one flesh. He is not doing God's will and one cannot blame the word of God - Bible.

My husband left me in order to obey his parents and put them first, saying the Ten Commandments even say to obey your parents, but does mention divorce or commitment to spouses. Sermons like this worry me because it is enforcing the idea to obey parents...but when someone hears it wrongly....it may result in a christian spouse leaving their wife and using the Bible as justification. I wish sermons like this would also declare that a spouse comes before the parents. My husband now attends a Luthern church which also preaches that divorce is a personal problem, not a church issue...they have given him the "ok" to divorce me, against my will, saying God will forgive and have mercy. I love him dearly and hate the false teaching that is destroying christianity and families.
@deachristiancatlady54357 жыл бұрын
C C I'm confused...God gives Biblical reasons for divorce...honoring you mother and father is not one of them!
@julierobinson51806 жыл бұрын
This sermon doesn’t worry me, but your husband does. He has twisted the scripture and taken it out of context. Once you’re married, you are no longer to put anyone except God ahead of your spouse. You are joined to your spouse and you become one flesh. Obeying your parents is for children, and the Bible is very clear about this. Once you are an adult, you are no longer under your parents’ rules.

Wow. There are many good points in this, but I am saddened by the lack of contextualization provided for the rise of empowerment culture, the need for a justice system where children can sue parents, and the use of social media. Begg is right that these things are misguided and in some cases, even evil. However, empowerment culture and the search for family healing was a backlash against the church ignoring and failing to follow God’s mandates for protecting the innocent in abusive and dysfunctional relationships. It’s also a reaction against the pride of some parents. This does not mean that disrespect is justified. But Begg is only telling half the story. The reason children need the ability to sue parents are because EXTREMELY wicked parents exist who will wreck their children’s lives, perhaps initiating transgender surgery against their child’s will, opening credit cards or draining their children’s bank accounts for their own gain, etc. And while selfies may have begun as something negative, it is used more often as a way to share the moments of your life with long-distance loved ones. I wish he had either spoken more generally about the heart attitudes that are sinful, rather than oversimplifying these cultural phenomenons, or been more sensitive to the nuances here. This is part of the reason the younger generations feel frustrated with the church.
