That’s not what we thought 😂 by that point, everything was changing over to computers and we were worried that we wouldn’t be able to access our money at the banks, security with buildings would lock people inside and the registers would stop working..shit like that. Also, the government and corporations love things like this spreading to up sales..for real..most ppl believed that why the news wouldn’t shut up about it.

We just thought everything controlled by computers would stop functioning properly. Traffic lights, electricity, credit card machines, TV, internet, etc. My friend’s “Dear Diary” electronic diary deleted all of her entries. That would be devestating to a company, if all data was wiped. Entering data for new hires can be tricky right now, for people born in the 00’s. Many programs cross check that the age input and birthdate checks out, so someone born in 00 should be 221 years old. So yeah, y2k did happen, but not as severe or in unexpected ways.

It was 11:56 pm, December 24th of 2011. I thought Christmas and new years were the same thing. “I highly doubt anything is gonna happen” I thought. although there was definitely a side of me that worried maybe we all could really be dead in the next few minutes. The clock struck twelve. I would never admit it, but I was relieved. I then tried falling asleep. I could not help but stay up an extra thirty minutes just in case there was a delay. There was not.

So I’m pretty sure they knew the computers would flip to 00, but they just didn’t know if the computers would think they went back in time instead of progressing normally since it was only 2 digits. Like the computer might thing it was 1900-1999 on a loop, rather than counting up for infinity. Thankfully, all the computers were smarter than the human error, for ONCE, but yeah. It wasn’t really a “death” it was a panic of our dependence on electronics/computers at the time.
