Franciscans (Greyfriars) are not monks, they are friars and they live in a friary or a convent, not a monastery, They follow the Rule of Saint Francis. There are also the Blackfriars (Dominicans), they are not monks either. That means they can go outside and preach and do pastoral work. Benedictine monks and nuns follow the Rule of Saint Benedict and so they are cloistered, although there are exceptions, for example, when they might need to travel to study or that they are in charge of a parish or they run a school. They're the ones who live in a monastery - which can be either an abbey or a priory.
