I changes my belt at the weekend, I was able to correct a minor timing issue using camlocks, I'm not sure this method would be able to achieve that but I'lll watch again.

How to mess up a twin spark... The front balance shaft is out of time also the inlet camshaft will be around 1mm out of time when you tighten up the timing belt. That's why you NEED camlocks for the job.

yes agreed ,was horrifying to watch,just buy damn cam locks they are like 30e,also tensioner has hole for correct tension on belt,i have 145 1.6 ts and 166 2.4jtdm

special tools needed , tool to set cil 1 on top and cam locking device, engine wear is getting the timing out of sinc it is minor but still.

Wow, i started sweating by time when you released timing belt. I'm not big fan of horror films. There is a lot moving parts whitout belt around, but you made it.

If you make correct markings you are fine. But still, like people noted below you should use tools if your engine has 200k kilometres as the wear will have changed the belt markings (TDC f.i.)

Thanks Can you please advise me good garages in Helsinki which are professional in repairing Alfa Romeo??? I have some serious issues in the engine.Im not sure if the sound is from the timing belt or the engine. Everything is fine in the car and temperature is ok. Pressure is ok.

Pretty scary especially if the timing was off slightly, cam locks would have shown this type of error easily but this way you may not notice by how much..

Why did you put the timing belt tensioner pointer pointing towards that hole, when actually it has a little hole before where you should've put it???

Maybe not seen clearly here but as said earlier "One more note is that you have to tighten the belt first to it's maximum and then release it so much that the arrow has room to live."

If the engine was running good before then I can see no harm in this method, basically you are not making any adjustments just replacing the belt.. I would be far more careful, I would not have released the timing gears locking bolt before the belt was secured in place, and been far more careful with the adjuster. I think my 156 has no balance belt, but if it did I would have marked it very carefully..
@cartedori8 жыл бұрын
damage to the balancer shafts did not indicate the location of the belt, they now stand in any direction
@Louvado718 жыл бұрын
You put the markings in the balancer belt together with the teeth of balancer cogwheel and its done. Did you mean this? You can leave the whole belt away and everything works fine.

Greetings from Norway, your neighbour in the north - and well done work. But one has to take care "varovaista homma kuin ripulin hoitaminen piereskelemällä". I have used camlocks and TDC-gauge on my 16V-Alfas. But of course it takes more time. I would say that if the car runs very well before changing cambelt - then your method is quit acceptable. Are your 166 still running well?
@Louvado718 жыл бұрын
This is fourth belt, always changed with the same method. Car runs better and better. When car was new, the fuel consumption was remarkably higher than these days. Maybe my right foot is not so heavy as after 164.. In fact we replace the belt same way in traditional method also. Only difference is that we first mesh the timing and then put it back to order just because there are no timing markings as in "normal" case. Now we just make the markings by our self.
@milospetrovic67998 жыл бұрын
YouOn 10:55 what did you do with tool that you done and what is his purpose
@Louvado718 жыл бұрын
That is needed to tighten the belt. It goes to the hole on the "north-east" side of the timing belt tensioner. Be careful to keep the tensioner so tight that the metal angle of the tensioner will not bend. Note also that you have to tighten the belt first to it's maximum and then release it so much that the arrow has room to live. This was not so clearly mentioned in the video.

no tools? do you read the manual how to tight the tensioner people dont do that!!!!!!!the belt is too tight it should be like that , i028.radikal.ru/1011/13/a6c410ca1a53.jpg

You made two mistakes; one is that the left balanceshat is positioned 4 tooth wrong and the other mistake you made is not to see where the camshafts are. They "move" slightly with the old belt and you just prolong the wrong setting, when you just put on another belt. I do not like your process
@Louvado717 жыл бұрын
Are you sure? This method is used by racing team that don't want to miss any horsepower. I have driven that car 80 000 km and no problems. Anyone can dismantle the whole engine to change one belt if he wants so. I prefer this method. Of course those who are doing this as their profession has to do it according to book?
