Just finished this film and instantly I'm researching Carey. What a fantastic performance. So compelling, so far ahead of its time. It's like he's travelled back from the 70s. I have to learn about him!
@MsVorpalBlade2 жыл бұрын
I just found him in "Finger Man" (1955) - he plays the boss gangster's chief thug and steals every scene he's in. Compelling is the word for him alright

Timothy Carey is a cross between John Turturro and that wood-chipper dude from Fargo.

I would agree. If some film is made about him, Turturro should have the part. Carey was Irish and Italian, but it's the Italian that really shows through.

Great scene from great film. Carey was a strikingly original actor. Once seen, never forgotten. I like what IMDB has: "Timothy Carey had one of the most unusual careers of all Hollywood character actors, obtaining full cult status for his portrayals of the doomed, the psychotic and the plain crazy. Carey's career was an "Only in America" type of story, and he retains his status as a Great American Original a decade after his death..."

Just watched The Killing for the first time. Great performances all around, but Timothy Carey was the one that really levelled me. Its a shame the guy was such a wild card and burned his bridges because he was immensely talented.

That horseshoe somehow puncturing the tire is one of the funniest scenes, along with the ending with the poodle of course, and that parrot miraculously learning to say “ain’t fair, ain’t fair” after hearing Sherry say it just one time right before George killed her lol

+David Robinson He was supposed to have been the original Sidney Poitier, actually old Hollywood legend has it that Sidney Poitier replaced Edwards, when he (James Edwards) refused to testify against actor, activist Paul Robeson during the HUAC hearings that caused many actors, producers, directors and other film employees to be Black listed from working in Hollywood

Carey sure had something special. He was also in Kubrick's Paths of Glory in '57. You can't ask, demand, or force someone to act like this. Maybe Dennis Hopper could do performances like this, but few others.

The Killing is one of the most bizarre Film Noir ever made. Tim Carey was perfect in this part, as a nut job. I have to wonder if Nicholson studied him much. Anyway, he didn't get arrested for shooting a horse out of season.

Growing up in Bay ridge Brooklyn where almost everyone was tough gave him the edge as a movie tough. He really was one of the first Hollywood troublemakers. He was difficult to work with, and even faked his own kidnapping during the filming of kobricks Paths of Glory. Kind of a loose cannon I would say. But never the rest wonderful two watche his work.
