I wasn't taking sobriety seriously. I was sporadically going to AA meetings than I stopped. For that month I stopped, I almost lost my job, wrecked my car, and almost lost my relationship with my girlfriend because I was turning into a vicious, angry drunk. But I've gotten a 2nd chance. I've been going to AA 5 days a week now, watching self healing videos, and am now 8 days sober. I never realized focusing on sobriety is like taking on a second job. Wish me luck

Day 8 is when it gets tough for me. 7 days sounds like such a nice round number so I feel accomplished. Then that voice starts coming back. I call it my crime partner (think of all those movies where a criminal always wants to do one last job before leaving the game). That's the voice - "Come on one last 'job' then it's off to paradise" lol. Good stuff Timothy. Funny cus it's true

'every show these days has drinking in it'. yup stay away from binge-watching that series featuring the 'charming drunk' always sitting in front of a gorgeous summer cocktail. novels too: (i'm a big book-reader for distraction) even to the point of featuring product placement so the author/publishers can pull in a few extra bucks. i've literally had to put one series (author) down and replace it with another, only to witness the acute relapse anxiety immediately melt away. this video is a godsend. i have looked and looked for an actual true accounting/breakdown of these first few days and found that the day three debacle was repeated numerous times over the course of as many weeks. thank you so much for your candid and entertaining narrative.

My go to activity for things to do when facing hard times. Go for a long walk. Walk somewhere where you otherwise wouldn't. Listen to some new music, see new roads, distance yourself from familiar things that could trigger you. This has worked well for me. Get it out of your system.

your so right about day 3. I have been going through a cycle recently where I am actively trying to become sober now. But I keep getting caught up on the third day. For the last 2 months ill make it a day or two then relapse for a day or two. Its driving me nuts and has become its own like schedule where now I'm drinking less cause of it cause ill drink every other day or every third day. But I want to be sober, I do not have the peace of that freedom and it makes me sad. I suppose all I can do is not quit quitting. This is the closest I've gotten to getting free in a while so I just don't want to lose this momentum.

Very good motivation and information Tim! That’s so cool you are able to speak to so many and help them. When I stopped back in 1999, After awhile I made myself go to a bar and had the bartender put a drink straw in my plain soda so no one would try and get me to drink ( yes those people do exist ) It was actually fun to watch everyone else make fools of themselves like I used to. Then later that got old so I stopped going to bars after I found other interests.. Keep up the good work a Tim!! Be safe. Blessings.
