You do a great job of explaining the technical information so that most could digest and use it to make decisions. Quality suspension manufacturers should invite your opinion and those that make nothing more than a " lift Kit" for mall crawling big tires may fear it.. The manufacturer should just be honest about their intentions but the price of a kit pretty much tells that story. Anyone should see that the time it takes you to compile your data is major. I doubt many lift companies invest this much but installing and reinstalling parts, raising vehicles and all involved is a lot of work and will reflect in the price of a system. The Yota guys especially should really appreciate your work..

Great job my man! Something to think about when Dirt King pushes the wheel forward they limit the cv angles since it’s no longer centered, which is why their axel shaft is longer to help accommodate that change addressing the plunge as well.

in regards to the cv axle topic. When you have a cv axle that is shorter and slides inside the inner tripod housing aka the housing on the differential not the hub. when it is extended out while in a full doop situation if you are heavy on the gas pedal or get into a bouncing situation it can shatter that entire inside housing . Yes I have def done that before. Not on my FJ but I have done it several times on a lifted 2 door tahoe bc the lift it had caused the cv's to be at a bad angle just sitting normal but when it got to offroading in any situation such as I described. BOOM... I have installed the Total Chaos +2 inch long travel on my 2010 fj and I love it.

@LennyM873 жыл бұрын
Would you recommend the Heim join UCA for Dirt king or Bushing UCA? Im not looking to running long travel, for now, maybe in the future. What are your thoughts?
@ATiredRyan3 жыл бұрын
Such great data. Thanks for all this. I have Dirt King lower arms in stock length and you have me curious about wearing them out quicker due to positive caster. After 20,000 miles, I took it all apart and noticed that the bushings had take some shape of LCA bolt hole. Not necessarily deformed, but more than likely normal wear for 4+ degrees of caster. Maybe I'll just replace them next teardown.
@TinkerersAdventure3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’d say if the bushings aren’t torn. Don’t bother replacing them. Delrin is thermoplastic and will stress relax/creep. So it taking the new shape might actually bear the load better (just my speculation lol). I used to have total chaos +2 LT with poly bushings. They would start tearing at the end surface where it contacts the frame brackets.

Hi Kai, I really enjoy all your videos. I always find them informative and insightful. I have a 2008 GX470. It sits on 34’s (285/75/17 BFG ko2’s) and a 2-1/2 lift. I use it as my daily driver. It has impeccable on road manners given its configuration. So, I'm hesitant to go overboard with modifications. Like most wheelers, I enjoy the occasional rock crawling trip, but the majority of my wheeling just relates to overlanding, with trips across Colorado, Idaho, the Pacific NW and Alaska. I am considering a trip through Mexico to Central America soon too. Given the distances and varied terrain I cover, I’m primarily focused on reliability and durability on trails that could be much more isolated than some of the more popular trails. I’m also looking for increased wheel travel for the more challenging sections of trails though, so I considered long-travel kits. I recently rewatched your video on Toyota ifs long travel kits. in your opinion should I even consider a long travel suspension given my type of driving? How does long travel compare to the factory set up?

Having paid almost 6K for a full mid-travel kit I wish I would have done a +2 long travel kit, the amount of actual articulation from a mid travel kit is barely more than stock. I’m checking out all the options leaning towards a JD fab kit. Camburg also has a +2 kit called Trail Series that uses OEM mid travel coil overs. Thanks for the super helpful comparison here🤙🏽

Man your channel came to clear a lot of doubts many of us off roaders have, really appreciated. I was wondering if you can talk about why and how to correct the camber when lifting the car. I've found the more you lift your car the higher the positive camber gets. I've heard that some brands sells extended lower control arm to correct the problem with adjustable uca too, but I wish to know your approach
@TinkerersAdventure2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Other vehicle can be different, but for Toyota 4X4, adjusting the lower control arm cam bolts are usually enough.
