I've had tinnitus since 1977 when I was exposed to a sudden extremely loud noise. In 2003 the noise in my left ear suddenly, for no apparent reason, shot way up much louder and has never gone back down. The noise level in the right ear remained the same. Over the decades this noise has caused me extreme distress and anxiety. Finally, a few years ago after being told repeatedly by every ear specialist I've seen that tinnitus is incurable and untreatable I made up my mind that I need to deal with this in my own way. So over a period of months I somehow managed to train my mind to "tune out" the tinnitus noise (which for me is a high pitched electronic tone) to the point that I now am only aware of the noise about 30% of the time when I am awake. I am never aware of it when I am asleep. I guess what I'm doing may be a form of biofeedback. I will my mind to ignore the noise. I can't do it all the time - every now and then the noise intrudes back into my consciousness but I am able to tune it out about 70% of the time. Before I was able to do this I was being tormented by the noise almost all the time. Virtually no relief. So mind power is very important.

don't breathing exercises help with T. ? taking your mind to the calm point in the middle and breathing in to it ... a friend of mine had it in a mild form and i taught him to find that middle point and breathe through it , over it , in a sense , like a cool breeze , releasing the tension T creates it's probably a real hassle , have problems with anxiety myself , which gives me cramps in my legs , when i don't breathe properly throughout the day

@@MrZbest1966 - That's a very good question which I've asked myself and to be honest, I don't exactly know how I managed to do it but I believe that after 45 years of suffering with this torment and repeatedly being told there is no cure, no effective treatment, I got angry and made up my mind that my only option was to try to train my mind to ignore the noise. I didn't believe I could do it but I had nothing to lose by trying. Somehow I focused some part of my mind on not paying attention to the noise. If you aren't thinking about the noise, you can then ignore it consciously. Of course it's always still there but for me the key has been to not think about it. But every so often, all of a sudden, I start hearing it again and I have to let my mind drift away from the noise onto something else. I'm sorry I can't explain or describe this better and I don't really understand it myself but it all started when I got fed up and angry at the noise and told myself I am going to have to learn how to not pay attention to it. To my surprise that worked, at least partially. Of course the training process of trying to ignore the noise took awhile, maybe a couple months before one day I suddenly realized I was not hearing the noise all the time. So I've went from being aware of the noise 90% of my waking hours (it's quite loud) to maybe 30% of my waking hours. All I can advise is tell yourself that you are going to ignore the noise and let your mind go somewhere else. Get angry at it. Make up your mind that you can do this. (I've been to several ear specialists including a hearing specialist who told me that "masking devices" don't work. I tried one and she was right. It didn't help at all.)

Cahzin Casey God bless you,my heart is so heavy for you. What a terrible thing to go through. What is a matter with people??? I wish you nothing but the best.I know what its like to be bullied and ridiculed. I worked in a shop with all men,and seeing how I was the only ladyh, they did everything to make my life a living hell. Until I wouldn't cave to their immature, childish ways..Some of them were nice but just a few.I left there after 6 yrs and went to a different division of the company.Hang in there Casey!

I am newly afflicted as sequelae of an ototoxic med. I am finding it most distressing. It’s only one ear, for which I am thankful I’m using masking techniques and started Quieten last night. I’m having a really-hard time with this. Julian Cowan-Hill gives me hope

Hi Julian,I agree that cns plays vital role after doing lot of reports blood test, MRI scans one of my physician asked me to do test for cns (sorry I forget the test name ) and value of that test was quite significant that's the only test so far in my examination cames was not normal. But I realised that the physician don't know medicine or might not have any medicine to treat disturbed central nervous system. I believe for many patients have tinnitus have issue with cns.
