Joel, I watched your time-lapse of your 5 X 8 conversion. Your command of carpentry-for-trailers is impressive. I'm in my 60s and flailing along on a 5' X 10' cargo camper conversion out here in southern Cal. Can't wait to get it out camping in the desert this spring, along with my Coleman 'big hat' vintage gas lanterns. Thanks for posting this video. It's neat to see others' conversions, and especially the Northern Pines camper crafted from all that very old wood. So freakin' cool. You rock, Joel! Wishing you the best and safe travels.

Really liking your videos. I built out a van and sold it a few months later. Now I'm getting ready to do a cargo trailer. This video gave me a lot of different ideas. I learned from the van build that it's better to go slow, take it camping and do some more work. If you don't you'll wind up having a lot of regrets. It's easier to add something (and cheaper) than have to tear things out and re build.

If you put hinges on the roof railing and folded them down, and made the roof posts lower in tandem via hand crank or winch, you could lower the whole upper level to save gas money on the highway.

I’m curious what kind of mileage you get pulling your trailer with the Ranger? I have a 07 Level ll Ranger and am looking at building a cargo trailer camper to pull behind. Nice build and thanks for sharing.
@JoelTremblayCA2 жыл бұрын
I haven't been able to accurately get a mileage number but I can tell you it's not great. The truck on its own gets terrible gas mileage (33" tires and steel roof rack) I normally get 400km per tank of gas. That being said, with the trailer I think it's around 350-330km per tank. Wind has a big impact on economy I find. If you can keep it in overdrive (under 2100rmp) then you're good. Thanks for watching! I appreciate the support.

Hey Joel. I'm hoping to start my cargo trailer build next summer, and I really look forward to your videos for ideas and skills... I am NOT a DIY guy, but really want to start. I think this event should not be named overlanding, as the main thing about overlanding is the journey, not the destination, the thrill of beating the land, creating new route to get the best view, or simply just delivering stuff thru a newly discovered route.. What this gentlemen were doing is just camping.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'm sure they enjoyed the journey to the runway there, but the main attraction is the destination, camping on a runway in remote area..
@JoelTremblayCA2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, but this event itself is a journey as well. I recognize that this event isn't quite overlanding but rather an open forum to meet and connect with other enthusiasts and even newbies who may not be familiar with overlanding.
