Not sure that was ever a farm pig meant for meat. That doesn't look quite like a commercial farm pig. Looks kinda like a mini pig. Maybe she isn't full grown because those meat pigs are YUGE fully grown. And not usually so long haired.

I don't eat pig meat ( pork is used to disguise what it really is) because the animals are kept in horrible conditions. And thousands were killed recently by deliberately turning off the ventilation in several factory farms.

If that is ones main concern, there are farmers who take good care of their live stock and subsequently have to sell the meat at a higher price. Disclaimer: Yes, the living conditions are a concern mine. That little meat I eat comes from animal friendly sources, as does eggs and dairy products. I'm willing to pay more for that.

I've heard their needs aren't quite the same as a dog's (mainly in that, being ungulates, they need a lot more space and land, and don't do so well living in a house), but they definitely have the same capacity for personality as a dog. Lovely to see this one frolic and play.

I've heard a lot of stories of how baby animals were found, but a piglet on the freeway is new to me. One thing all creatures need is love and you certainly gave her that. Isn't it great to see a being with no prejudices? She loves humans, dogs, chickens, lambs, ducks, and other pigs. Just happy to be alive and wanted!

Just goes to prove we all want to live. Maybe trauma is genetic. Maybe she could feel it from within that she wasn't headed for life. So, she jumped. She doesnt know what bacon and pork chops are but she was determined that would not be her destiny. I'm glad she jumped. Reminds me that complacency isn't always the best option for life.

Pigs make great pets. We had a Pot Bellied pig. Easy to house train. He'd go to the door and make a grunting sound to get out to potty. If you didn't let him out, then he would start squealing. It was hilarious. He stayed in the house until he tipped my big plant over and started rooting the dirt around in my carpet! Lol. Outside he went, but he had a nice pen and house. They are cleaner than a dog, and don't shed!

I agree with you that they pick us. My current little Pound treasure is a case in point. The last time I went out to the Humane Society to adopt a new family furball, all the dogs were barking hysterically. . .except the one at the far end of the shelter. She calmly got up, yawned, stretched, and walked up to the gate. She gave me a very thorough inspection, then wagged her tail in a perfect "What the hell took you so long? I've been stuck in here with this bunch of yowlling, howling mutts for THREE WHOLE DAYS!!!" Happy to have been chosen to be your handmaiden, ma'am. . .can I get you a few more ice cubes for your water dish and another round of dog treats?
