Ginger and Greg realized that working 60+ hours a week to sustain the typical lifestyle was not for them. After experimenting with a campervan, they came up with a plan to build this awesome 4x4 adventure rig. There is a ton of great insights in this video, I hope you enjoy!

I just bought a used 1 ton dually flatbed 4x4 and have been thinking of building a Stealth-type camper for it and this video gave me some good ideas thank you! IMO they should stay away from long trips south of the border...their truck/camper will be a target for sure. There's plenty to see here in the states, Canada and Alaska. Heck I'd plan a summer trip to Alaska and do a lot of fishing and gold panning! Rig-up a pair of dirt bikes on racks!

Well we did work 60 hrs a week for 30 years but were able to retire early and now enjoy RVing (& travel) as much as we can. I'd really like to get more off road and what you two have done to your rig is amazing. Our next rig is going to be a 4X4, but not as big as we won't be having to live in it. Your blog is very well presented and informative. Best of luck!

This is about 80% of what I want. Take that idea of bed and put it on a 4wd Isuzu diesel truck, or a Fuso, with added water tanks and filtration system for unlimited boondocking. Maybe a little garage for a Rokon Mototractor, or just a fat tire ebike and keep the pass thru. Pretty inspiring design to see it like this though. Can't wait to start mine.

The biggest (pun) factor in being able to live full-time in a camper or small trailer is is not the size of the rig; rather it's the size of the people habitating therein. It can be nearly a perfect situation for some people (those under 6' and not heavy of build). For larger persons it's sort of like wearing shoes that are slightly too small (you can stand it for a little while). For people well above average size it can be an ordeal. For the truly huge, it's not even doable except in an emergency (certainly not for two 6' 6"+ and heavily built individuals). But they're FANTASTIC for a couple of quite small and slim people.

@Hunnter2k3

I absolutely love this. So well thought out. The extra outside storage is particularly good. Having a good, solid outside storage is a must if you are going out an about exploring, and doing it from a small space. You need to take your life outside more, so keeping useful storage outside for outdoors equipment is great for that. Good idea on gutting out some of the inefficiently used spaces and repurposing them. A lot of small spaces are designed for, not sure how to put it, to be the most welcoming for the majority of people I guess? Not "too cramped" or "too sterile" or "too sharp" and other such things, but in doing so they tend to waste a lot of space in looking certain ways, or having so much space dedicated to X, which takes space away from Y, and so on. Curves are the biggest curse in small spaces. They might look nice, but in reality they take away a lot of useful space way too often. A lot of people down-sizing are typically looking to make more use of space in every way possible. They can usually find better ways of making use of that space and doing it in an aesthetically pleasing way. It is a weird paradox lol In my case, I would actually go one further in optimizing space use - I would put the toilet in the shower room, at least as long as the toilet itself can be made airtight with an external vent for airflow so no moisture gets in to it. This not only gives you a massive amount of space in the current toilet room, it also gives you a nice comfy shower seat. Double win. Not for everyone though. Needs the proper toilet for it. Speaking of spaces, the locking system is great. Great idea. Electromagnetic locks make a lot of sense where mechanical ones just seem impractical for things being accessed regularly. They take basically no power if you design them properly (being locked by gravity rather than active current).

This set up is "EXACTLY" how I've wanted my personal camper rig to be and have differed a camper due to obvious downsides of existing rigs. You guys could easily start a business model building these models for overlanders as I see an untapped segment in current models offered. A genius design and build!

Very lovely rig you own. Ditching propane is the best thing you did. Those diesel heaters works better and cheaper to operate and less prone to fire hazards. And induction burners are just as good as conventional ones. Plus it’s so annoying to fill up those 20# or 30# propane tanks every time you run out

Love the rig. I like how you took a tc and modified it to what you wanted. I'm not a fan of the camplight truck campers. I would have done a northernlight or a bigfoot, but that's just me. It would have been a little harder to modify the fiberglass campers for sure. Not sure i like getting rid if the propane completely. I like it for heat and cooking, but definatly a good choice on changing out to compressor fridge. I have been thinking of outfitting my truck camper to a flatbed. The boxes you made fit well and make the rig look propionate and practical. Storage always seems to be a problem in a rig you spend alot of time in. I wish I could live with less stuff. Do you know how much the rig weighs? I think weight is a big factor when it comes to alot of offroading situations like sand and mud.

Hey! We’re pretty heavy - 17k with fuel and water, fully loaded. If we want to be able to air down, we need to upgrade the tires as planned. We know other overland rigs around our weight running the bigger single tires and they are really able to go almost anywhere
@dsgrayco
@dsgrayco 4 жыл бұрын
@@DrivenToAdventures thanks for the reply. Most dont seem to know what they weigh. I'm around 10k, so I can use the load E tires that are easier to find. I now realize that I had watched some of your videos. I thought the composting toilet video was really good. Most dont recommend the air head. Im changing out mine to that same set up. The urine will go into my black tank. I also remeber your struggles with your 7.3. I hope that worked out. Those motors are getting harder to find. Good choices on the rig. I envy your lifestyle.... I think your missing a pet. Seems that's a requirement for full timing.?.?
