You are the first one that explains this kendo footwork well in my opinion. In short sprint, similar training drill is called A-skip to help you practice quickly pull your leg forward.

Thank you. I will research this further I have a runner friend that has helped me in the past but I think it would be interesting to bring some of the sport science from other disciplines into Kendo. Thank you for watching and the comment!

I like this interpretation of pulling yourself forward. Kanzaki Sensei used a similar expression but he described it as to stand upright as you land. Like to make yourself talker as you land. I think it's the same point but different wording.

Thank you for your comment! The concept is the same but I refrain from using it in order to not give the image of "sinking" at the moment of Fumikomi. I wanted to keep the video short so I didn't explore this concept to not have to also explain that you don't want to drop the body. I hope this makes sense, let me know if it doesn't! Thank you again for watching and your comments.

I really relate with your point of view on fumikomi. When I started Kendo I was recovering from a foot fracture so when I started fumikomi I felt pain and started to do it the wrong way resulting in a bad posture and overall movement. I wonky started correcting it when I started thinking of fumikomi less as a stomp and more as a propelling movement, more fluid and natural. I am still working on it but I believe I am a good path atm on improving it. Thanks for this video and the tips. Keep them coming.

Thank you for the support!! Yeah I think many people misinterpret stronger fumikomi. I always hear people use that term and how they want to have stronger fumikomi and maybe that's where we start distorting the function of it. I'm glad this was helpful! I hope to keep making more useful videos.

@Kendotips4 жыл бұрын
Yo creo que es por la mala interpretación de los principiantes, y querer hacer ruido con el pie, en ves de entender la función! muchas gracias por el comentario y disculpa la tardanza en responder.

How frequently does your gym train? Could I join a session once a week? I had background in kendo more than 30 years ago when i was a kid but I am a 2nd Dan kenjutsu uchideshi in Osaka now. I just wanna make sure I can still grow in the competitive fighting side of things.

Is not fumikomi (jumping step) the foot motion/step that Miyamoto Musashi dismissed in his book "Five Rings"?
@Kendotips5 жыл бұрын
stejada1 I personally don’t see fumikomi at all. But please tell us more.
