Cara Cavone Good idea! But I tried long boarding and I panicked worse because I feel like concrete hurts worse than snow😂 but I had a cheap longboard from amazon and was riding along and a wheel hit a tiny rock and the long board stopped and i went flying 😖 but snowboard or longboard I should Probably just get back up and try again 🤷♀️

These are great tips! To get more comfortable with speed I would just hold a straight line on a smooth hill for 5 seconds, then carve to slow down, straighten back out and bomb for a bit longer, rinse and repeat and before you know it you're bombing runs with ease. For me, the main barrier to high speed was fear. Just gotta commit!

Also, your board's flex and width have a huge impact on how you can control your board with more speed. For example I've been riding a GNU headspace (155) and a Jones flagship (165 wide) this winter. When riding the headspace I feel like I just can't go fast, as soon as I start getting speed the edges are already wobbeling, and I have to speed-check or I'll lose control. Whereas on the flagship I can just charge forward and my legs will give out before the board. I don't think it's said enough on this channel because it's so freestyle oriented, but a very flexible board is absolutely horrible for speed.
@Glocky1314 жыл бұрын
How much do you weigh? Giving board lengths is totally meaningless without your weight.
@elp12914 жыл бұрын
@@Glocky131 your board's length impacts directly how stable it'll be, as your height (the further your center of gravity is from the ground, the further from each other contact points of your board need to be in order for your board to be stable under you). Which means that the taller you are, the longer board you need in order to be stable. On the other hand, your weigh has an impact on how your board bends, the heavier you are (and the faster you go), the more pressure you are going to put on your board. Meaning that the heavier and the faster you go, you'll need a stiffer board. Also, I can't deny that a short board is inherently less stable than a long one, but choosing a board's length is only a matter of matching it with your height, and what kind of stability-to-nimbleness ratio you're looking for.
@Glocky1314 жыл бұрын
@@elp1291 Ok then why do board length guides use weight as a factor (they give the average height for your weight as well in case you don't know how much you weigh)? The longer your board is the more of it is in contact with the ground therefore the longer a board is the easier it will be to brake. This is counteracted by your weight; the heavier you are the longer it will take to brake to a stop. Your height doesn't matter because your centre of mass is directly over the edge of the board and therefore parallel but opposite to the force of friction. Height isn't completely irrelevant because it does play a part in stability and flex as you say.
@elp12914 жыл бұрын
@@Glocky131 I think there is a misunderstanding. When you go through size charts, you'll obviously see that the longer the board, the higher the weight span is. This is obvious because they usually are the simplest values to understand. But it doesn't mean there is a technical link between them. And if you ask me, I'd say that the most obvious link is that the taller you are, the heavier you'll be on average. But the important factor you need to look for regarding weight is more the width of the board, which directly impacts its stifness.
@elp12914 жыл бұрын
@@Glocky131 this "rider weight" info isn't a factor, it's simply here to help customers pick the right board size. The thing is : all of the board's sizes rise along its length. So why would you think it's only a matter of length ? Weight span is here for two reasons : - if you weigh more than indicated for the board that's your right size, you should consider getting a bigger board in order to have the intended experience with this board. - on the other hand, if you're very tall but weigh less than the given span, you can consider getting a smaller board because the one at your size'll feel stiffer than intended. Just make a test, get two 1m long pipes, one that's 4cm wide, the other 5cm wide. Try to balance them both on their end, and I don't need to tell you which one'll be easier to keep balanced (the widest). Now take another pipe, this time 2m tall and 5cm wide. For sure it'll be harder to balance than the 1m one. This translates exactly to snowboard length. The taller you are, the harder it is going to keep balance over a smaller board. Also, board length has a huge impact on vibrations transmission, the longer it is, the more vibrations dampen along the board. And finally what you're refering to is the contact length of the board. Sure a longer contact length will help share pressure on a wider area, thus giving better grip in order to brake. But that's only a tiny part of what board length brings, and also not the most important factor of brake power.

I bought this for my son and it's his first decent board accounting to him allmy.tips/FlowSnowboard?dy He's been using it for Midwest snow hills so pretty much fake snow as of right now. Even with our "Ice-like" hills he feels like he has great control of the board. He likes that it is a light board for him. He's 5'7" and about 125lbs. He's been using it mostly on mountain runs and has hit a few at the park. Packaging from EVO could've been better in my opinion as it was just placed in a box with no cushioning. Box was mostly open and bent a little during shipping.

pop! its the spring motion of jumping and picking up your legs, to do it slightly like him you need to first practice the pop its self (the jump up) and then practice lifting your feet to where your body is, and last but not least holding the flexed stance and letting the ground come to you (as opposed to pushing your feet down to meet the ground). once you get comfortable with that then you can try it big and small and to get on and off features!

@cruisinkyle6725 жыл бұрын
its all about practice and moving past that mental block, here is a cool way to practice, shift your weight to your dominate foot slowly and allow your board to start going straight downhill (start on a beginner slope to get used to it). hold it for a couple of seconds and then stop on your heel edge. now try it again and try to stop a little faster, keep doing this until you feel confident in your stopping and then try to go straight for longer. stopping on a snowboard is like stopping in a car, the more you use the brake the faster you will stop, but you cant just slam on the brakes, you have to ease into it a little. also the faster you are going the longer its going to take you to stop, but by starting to slow down earlier and doing so in a controlled manner you can go from 50 mph to 5 mph withing a couple of seconds. getting more confident at stopping will help you get over your speed fear!

@@stevros48 thanks. If I want to push the board beyond the park into all mountain as well a bit, would the 158 wide be better. Worried that the 155wide will not be stable enough or enough float on occasional powder. How is the board overall? Not too catchy or too aggressive? I'm not beginner nor advanced but early intermediate rider. I like bit of speed, tried carving I want to learn freestyle some spins so want light maneuverable board. Sorry for all the questions I appreciate your advice
@stevros484 жыл бұрын
@@paveldanko9386 it would be for all mountain...but honestly if you early intermediate maybe the standard huck knife be a better choice for you ... maybe look at some top 5 or top 10 intermediate all mountain or all mountain freeride boards ... huck knife pro is definitely an intermediate to advanced board and flex

I'm gonna try rails this winter, but my only question is how much do you jump onto the rail and how much do you just let momentum carry you onto the rail? If that makes sense.
@cruisinkyle6725 жыл бұрын
depends on the rail, but understand the the "jump" onto the rail is really just a little hop upwards because your momentum will keep you going in that direction anyway, so you are not jumping to the rail rather hopping up so that when you come down the rail will be under you, i hope that makes sense!

TJ, something I've noticed with your riding that is kind of odd. On rails you are perfectly squared with your weight but when you ride you always seem to keep a lot of weight on your back leg with it bent kind of inward towards the front knee. I Imagine it is a matter of taste but I can't imagine your MCL being too happy about it, especially when you ride ducky. Have you tried aligning your knee with your foot when you're riding to not put so much weight on your MCL? It's ok to manspread on your board! Practice olies stationary on flat ground. If you move backwards you need to fix that weight shift by pushing the tail away from you as you take off.
@cruisinkyle6725 жыл бұрын
its all in the stance, if you are leaning back then you will loose balance, try to keep your upper body (hips up) upright and flexing your lower body to the tail of the board, this takes some practice and is not super comfortable but if you get used to it then you will have a lot more balance and will be able to control your ollies better! the same thing can be done over the nose of your board to practice nollies!!! have fun!
