The lack of snow in southern Europe this year is unprecedented. Let's hope it will change soon enough. Thanks Kevin for your vids, its a comfort.

41 Year old Swiss Expert Snowboard and Ski Instructor here that learned to ski before walking. The right amount of Stickers and in general a Board with Cool Snowboard Graphics are also a huge factor to consider. It gives you that extra umpf.. and self-confidence to tackle everything from blues to Bec des Rosses here in Verbier! It certainly helped me a-lot. 🙃

@@SnowboardProCamp Awesome! I'm 42 end of March ;) Keep up the god work! Always nice to see people help each other. I just picked up a 22/23 CAPiTA Mercury today ( Love the Design ;) ) for myself this season and a CAPiTA Super D.O.A. for my Brother ( X-Mass Gift). Super stoked Cheers from Switzerland

One thing you missed was having the right wax for the right temperature. A couple weeks ago I went out in -2F weather and my board was dragging; the next time I went out it was 25 and it was super fast...

I knew parts of that scenery looked familiar... I went there many times as a teen, and recently was on a mountain again for the first time in 20+ years... hoping to get back out with my kids and maybe even go to Schweitzer again some day... for now we will be learning at Lookout mostly, where I learned as a teen... but after a few trips we may venture to some other mountains. Ive never been to 49° North, and really wanna go there next winter. Thanks for all the videos, cheers!

Something that helped me greatly with speed was... RIDING SWITCH. Seriously, it´s so awkward to ride switch, that when I come back to regular stance it´s like... wow, dude, this is SO EASY, look how fast I can go.

As I have gotten older (41 now), when I crack about 30 mph, the fear of catching an edge starts to set in because the falls really get more painful with increased age and lower fitness level. And I don’t recover from the pain as quickly anymore.

Hi, I'm 51 and completely get that. I recently added mobility drills into my training and it completely charged my ability to absorb and recovery form impacts. Focused on hips and back. Im still pushing for new tricks in the park and ride all day most days of the season. I do 15 mins warm up before I go riding and 20 mins warm down when I get home.

Maintain your fitness level helps as well (41 here as well). I feel more confident on my board then when I was younger, first because my technique is better but also because I do much more sports outside of snowboarding compared to when I was younger. I’m actually stronger and I’m more flexible.

I'm almost fifty but like to go about 50 mph and sometimes up to 60mph. There is no way I will fall at those speeds . I never did in last twenty years. You just put your weight on the back of your snowboard. Then there is no way you can catch an edge. The faster I go the more balanced and focused I am.

I hear ya, I'm 41, and last Thursday went for my first trip in over 20 years... it was a blast, and I remembered enough to not wipe out too bad...but when I got up some speed a few times I definitely had that in the back of my mind, and took it a lot easier the last few runs of the day as I was tired and more likely to eat it... thankfully I survived and am planning another trip if winter holds out...

Something I learned that I tell new riders is always ride on one edge or the other. Going straight and flat increases the risk of catching an edge and busting your head which is the biggest reason that stops people from sticking with it.
@AmbiguousArtist
@AmbiguousArtist Жыл бұрын
@Phil Thompson Yeah, I rode flat based quite a bit when going for speed but it's something you have to get used to... That's why I specified that's what I tell new riders, it helps eliminate the fear of catching an edge and boost the confidence of riding fast.

So if I got it right, then my front foot is to initiate the turn and my back foot is to adjust the speed?

Definitely keep a fresh wax on your board. I used to wax it every other time I went. Also just keep going and you'll build confidence which will help get through the flat spots. And last, you just gotta send it, lol.

Hi Kevin, I had been watching your channel long time, I do really respect you that because You’ve been teach A lot of people who love snowboarding ,and I had never have any opinion been showing in the comment Session here before, but I’m so happy that i’m drunk today and I want to say something to you, as the snowboard instructor level vision, this is not fast (or speedy), please think about when you’re turning while you are snowboarding, thinking about o’clock 12 to 6 o’clock, you are keeping pressure (or say: Turning ?changing edge ?) at 4 o’clock or 8 o’clock, please try to do it at 2 to 3 o’clock😊(also 8-9 O’clock), hope you can feel the power of turning (non too much slow down) 😊, I hope you like to comment

I think the angle of bindings is also important when riding with more speed. Back binding at zero has most control, so most speed for me.

other then riding in a long flat area why would someone want to ride faster especially around trees and other obstacles i.e. other riders? Speed is maintained by turn shape isn't it?
@SnowboardProCamp
@SnowboardProCamp Жыл бұрын
I guess the goal isn’t to ride fast. But just ride with more speed than you’re currently at. If you’re slowly moving down the run, then it’s nice to be able to progress to more speed.

How do I prevent back leg fatigue, and tun easier?
@joeyofficer
@joeyofficer Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you ride with too much weight over your back foot which is common when our weight wants to naturally go towards the back foot as the board begins to move. The trick is to try and distribute pressure more evenly across both feet. Try this as an exercise. 1) Standing on your board strapped in, stand up tall like somebody has picked you up by the shoulders, then relax flexing your ankles and knees to find a nice stacked balanced posture on your board. 2) In this position create a little bit of pressure on the outside of foot to press against the boot. You should also notice that your knees also point a little more towards the nose and tail of the board. When you notice how that pressure feels on the outside of your foot try the same exercise while you are riding, It will help you become more centred on your board, reduce back leg burn and hopefully enjoy riding for longer.
