I also think that dressing nicely on a flight offers respect to the flight crew, not unlike dressing nicely to meet a friend for lunch. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean that you should pull out a cocktail dress, but wearing dressed up casual. Looking like a bum doesn’t earn you any brownie points anywhere.

The clothes that airlines require their employees and employees of other airlines to wear can vary from airline to airline and class you are flying. I loved having my kids all dressed up with my son in a sports jacket beginning at age 18 months old through his early twenties. My daughter always in dresses. I agree with everything Jen says about choosing flying outfits and want to add my $0.02. I pick tops and pants for the plane that will not easily show spills, drips, or crumbs. Because the airline blankets are usually dark & fuzzy, I also avoid clothes that are light-colored or lint magnets. Final tip for any flight longer than 4 hours: COMPRESSION SOCKS. The light pressure socks are comfortable. Your feet, ankles, and calves will feel better even if swelling is not an issue for you. If your feet and ankles tend to swell on long flights, then wear the next step higher in compression. You can wear compression socks under your regular socks, and then remove at the end of the flight if a warm weather destination.

I'm a bit surprised her pilot husband did not tell her about safety in air travel clothing. One should wear only organic fabrics like cotton, wool, etc. If there is a fire, synthetic fabrics will weld to the skin and cannot be surgically removed as can organics. (Other tips: most accidents happen in landing or near runway--the plane breaks apart, those near the front are nearest the engines and the fracture point, so try to reserve seats in the rear of tbe plane. Get out as fast as possible--unbuckle yourself first and a dependent child only after you have the mobility to save both of you. The tiny flame or smoke puff you see up nearer tbe engines becomes an all-consuming fireball within mere SECONDS (remember the damaged oxygen containers on board)--if you don't risk broken bones by jumping ASAP to the tarmack, you will likely be incinerated. Except for securing your child, a crash landing is not the time to try to aid any of your fellow beings--altruism will almost surely cost you your life...

@@SandwichLady If clothing for plane travel is the subject and the author says nothing about the relative safety and dangers of certain fibers/materials, I think it's unconscionable not to try to warn people. I can see your point with regard to the other safety tips being off-point, however. Decades ago, soon after a couple of horrible crashes on airfields, a mainstream newspaper ran an article with all the points I raised, so I have grouped them in my mind. Also, I haven't seen any of these points raised since then in any popular forum, so I thought I might as well mention them. If the writer's husband did inform her, why didn't she consider cautioning her readers? Comfort, attractiveness, and safety are not incompatible qualities in clothing. While I can see your point about the tips not all being directly on the subject, I am somewhat puzzled that you dismiss the tip about safe CLOTHING and that you can only fault me for taking the time to type out info that I clearly intend to help protect people with. Were you aware of the info I conveyed before reading my comment? Do you think it is commonpllace? If you can say "yes," your reaction makes more sense to me. I would be glad to know that many people are aware of these factors in plane travel--I just haven't seen it. If you would answer "no" to my two questions, I think you might benefit from considering why you emphasize what values motivate your objections, which include no acknowledgement whatsoever of my clear intention to possibly save lives.

I grew up when men wore suits and women wore dresses, stockings and heels for travel. While societal norms have changed, I agree hygiene is an issue when someone has a sleeveless tee shirt and body odor, or a crop top, short shorts and flip flops, and with everything exposed. That being said, I appreciate your selections, except for the shoes. I have heard leather soled shoes are safest when traveling. Sharp objects, spills, and worse, plus emergencies they offer best protection. I always have a blazer, with pockets, light weight for warmers climates and heavier for cold. I always have a scarf. Yes, it's good for the cool breeze against my neck, but also for the seat backs and what they harbor. I don't wear jeans, preferring slacks with deep side seam pockets. I also wear a fitted tee and denim jacket or blazer. Always either wear Repetto ballet flats or loafers. Ive also traveled overseas wearing a shift dress due to comfort. It pays to look polished. Twice I was upgraded due to dressing well. People stopped taking pride in their appearance and it really is a shame. Unfortunately if there is a major issue where there is an evacuation if wearing shorts or a skirt and hose going down the slide will melt nylon or burn your legs. Also flip flops is a total no no. Also wear dark socks as going through TSA turn white socks nasty.i have flights to the Philippines so have 25 hour flights to Taiwan and change planes to Cebu. I wear compression socks as helps swelling. Going show my Filipina wife your video. She 6ft and slim 40yo. I do n8t ever tell what wear. She likes shorts and short skirts. Wished I could find light weight shoes like yours. I am a cousin to big foot. Can't find shoes in the Philippines. Thans again.

I thought you were supposed to never wear synthetics when traveling because in case of a fire they would melt and bond onto your skin.
@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge2 жыл бұрын
Well your odds of dying from a fire in literally any other place are significantly higher than on an airplane so if that’s a concern I would say don’t we are synthetic fabrics ever? Truly an airplane is statistically one of the safest places you can be.

Being warm is important for me. The trip is uncomfortable because of the cramped seating, being cold doesn't help. One flight I spilled my drink and when I went to sop it up it was frozen to the carpet. That's how cold it was!

Great suggestions! J. Jill are my go to pants for travel also. So comfortable!

I wore a brown altra suead jumper with a zipper over the chest, over a black nylon short sleeved stretch shirt...got thoroughly searched as if I was a drug pusher. Haven't flown since. The plane ride wasn't worth the violation. Way to traumatic to travel on planes since 9/11.

If you don't have pre check, I don't recommend wearing a top with buttons down the back, as this will be a flag on the scanner.

Do you know how the weather is in England and Ireland mid September through early October? My daughter is taking me with her to those countries and it would help to get an idea what to wear not only in the airplane (which this video helped tremendously) but also what to wear once we're there. Thank you!

As always, love this video. Could I ask what size you have in the Barefoot Dreams Cardigan? We look to be about the same shape and I find that all cardigans can fit differently on me in sizes. Thank you!

I wear a medium. Great question!

I would like some reviews about Tieks. I purchased a pair in my usual size. They were too small and I just kept hoping they would stretch a little and they never did. So I donated them. Someone got like new Tieks. Do you wear your regular size in them or size up? If I reorder I’m not sure whether to go up a whole size. I can’t remember if they even come in half sizes.

Love this video! Totally agree on the shorts thing! Thinking of your skin touching the airplane seats grosses me out! I love your more stylish tips. I usually just wear my jeans with a hoodie.

New to your channel, love the content and have just subscribed, totally agree with you as regards to short shorts 😱. I do hanker for the days when air travel was so ‘romantic’, suits, hats, gloves - not very practical these days I guess but very Pan Am 😊. Going to watch a few more of your videos now. Thanks 🙏

I just love your personality! And I also feel strongly about what you should wear on a plane! I always see people wearing things like heels or barely any clothing and just wonder why? Just why?? lol. You need layers, you need comfortable shoes that you can run in if need be. Heaven forbid your plane has something bad happen and you need to get off quickly or even worse, have to get off quick and are in some remote terrain. You just never know! I feel like the Boy Scouts "always need to be prepared!"

I'm a retired fa. I travel intl flights almost every months. I wear jeans or nice pants, sneakers, socks, long sleeve top, and blazer. I always look nice. As a standby, I stand aside or sit and wait for the gate agent to call my name. I list first/business, and get nice seats most of the time. Many others up front either by purchase, miles or upgrades rarely look great. Jeans, sweats, tshirts. They are relaxing and enjoying their long flight. I'm respectful of crew. Many times. I know the crew. When asked what I would like for dinner, I always say doesn't matter, whatever you have left. I love flying especially now that I'm retired.life is great!✈️✈️

I love lands end knit pants in America. Certain underwear fabric I wont wear when travelling. I think the funnies thing I saw was a lady wearing flannel PJ as it was a long flight and wearing pants inside out.

The brand name on the first shirt looked like "Pete Clover." What is the name (since I could find nothing in this brand)? Thanks!
