It's a bit of a liability writing up safety issues in the morning because if you get in an accident ups management can discharge you or send a warning letter on driving a unsafe vehicle , VS writing it up when you finish work without the risk.
@josephspano55296 жыл бұрын
If you have a problem with the mirrors during your Pre trip then you don't just write it up. You go find a mechanic and a supervisor and know them there will be a delay. Also tell your management team to order squeegee for drivers if you have a problem. Also bring it up to your safety team. If they don't do anything then file a safety grievance. I understand what you are saying(it's only $5) get them to reimburse you

Do you have any tips for driving the vehicle for the second phase of the hiring process ? Also what to expect for the first time driving the vehicle.

When diving the truck, watch for the tailswing and low hanging wires/tree limbs/eaves. If you are able to, ask to help park vehicles for carwash. Helps a lot

Canadian Andy, Driving a package car now is so easy. I drove for 32 years and started when all package cars were sticks with no power steering. It's a piece of cake now cause most of them are automatic with power steering.. It may not sound like much but doing a tight 3 point turn in an older car is not easy with a full load. No worries just make sure your mirrors are adjusted correctly and use your backup camera in which we didn't have those either when I first started. I don't know where you're at but in southern calif we drive almost all P1000 or 1100. Make sure you clear before turning and stay calm you'll be fine good luck.

Can you give me advice on learning routes when I start my 30 day probation? How did you first learn where and how to deliver the packages
@paulconklin14296 жыл бұрын
I would get the print out of the route you have to cover and then go out on a weekend and try to follow it.

Yes, and some of the updates systems have Navigation. Helps track where we deliver packages.

Can you please do a video that explains about the 14 hour rule of driving? I got demoted back to preload over that and that’s dumb cause I wanted to get all my packages delivered but it was too late

You failed your 30 days for going over 14?
@jonrd92144 жыл бұрын
UPS Chris yes but I didn’t know the consequences of going over 14 hours. I was completely clueless till I got told then it was just shocking.
@chris707man4 жыл бұрын
Jon RD you shouldn’t have been dispatched with a 14+ hr day within your first 30 days. If I were you I would talk to my union representative.

First you should honk the horn as you pull up to a stop if you know they have a dog, then when you are exiting vehicle and on the way to the stop call out "UPS" so either the dog or owners hear you. If a dog comes at you hold the pkg in between you and the dog so you have a little protection from being bitten. And lastly back away while holding the pkg and don't run because a dog will then see you as prey. That training never seems to come up in the DIAD training.

There are 2 different spots to write up your vehicle, “safety related” and “non safety related”, you can drive a vehicle with non safety related issues.

Jako Makavel You’re crazy. I’ve been there 30 years and do not know how someone starting now could last 10 years. Technology has tripled the stop count over the years. Unfortunately knees and joints haven’t caught up
@scottwong49925 жыл бұрын
Dwight lollar, You are so right about the stop counts. I retired in 2013 after driving 30 years and 85 to 115 stops was heavy. But we had to get signatures or indirect the deliveries then and now it's like a newspaper route no signatures needed even the businesses. Management wants as many stops as possible and with each stop you have to go down and up 2 times combine. Our drivers are doing 150 to 200 stops and that's over 300 times up and down not counting pick-ups. You're right don't see how anyone can go 30 years like you and I. I'm hurting everyday and stretch a lot, the only good thing I'm collecting my pension not don't have to listen to those idoit management. One thing that helps the newer package cars are much lower and stepping down is easier. Just for my info where do you drive out of?
@dwightlollar15 жыл бұрын
Scott Wong I’m in Tyler Tx. I have a few more years to go. The only way to make it now is to slow down and just put up with the long hours and harassment
@scottwong49925 жыл бұрын
Dwight Lollar, Good to meet a new UPS brother. If you got 30 years in you drove all the sticks with no power steering. We didn't have time to do the stuff this Chris kid does in his videos. He still sounds like a rookie and we had to use a Thomas Guide no GPS for directions. I was out of Mainstreet in L.A. I respect guys who's been there 25plus years cause I know what we went through. You have crazy heat there hang tough nice to have that pension working for you after retiring. You're not at 80 points yet if you are get out and retire if you can. I got out at 91 points putting in extra 5 years and my body feels it. Good luck Dwight hope you join me soon retired and talk to you soon.

Scott Wong Hey thanks. Drivers now can’t believe we went out with paper records and not knowing what is on our package car I can remember going to the same house 4 times in one day 😆
