I just started as a bartender a couple weeks ago, and got hit with a surprise free pour test today. I remembered your video and listened to it real quick before hand, and just bopped my hips in time with your count. Killed it. Thanks man. You made my life better today.

the "pool cue" bottleneck hold is actually really good for ergonomics; helps prevent long term wrist strain and carpal tunnel etc.. There's actually a lot of ergonomic techniques I've learned in bartending from some OG's and older mentors who've been slanging cocktails for 20+ years. Totally recommend looking up proper "healthy" techniques for shaking tins, pouring bottles, exercises, etc.

yeah but it strains your fingers. that’s the trade off. gotta have a balance of different techniques

I’m Australia and free poring is illegal here in licensed establishments supposedly to help prevent alcohol poisoning, go hard with our drinking so it’s very common for 18 years olds who are first able to go to get alcohol poisoning so the thinking is if they know exactly how much they are drinking it will help then not to over do it, nut I don’t think it really works all that well.

Thank you for Saying “parts” are confusing because I’ve been at multiple places and been trained so many times but just recently got the “eye roll” from a manager who thought I knew nothing because I’ve always counted/fraction style free pours and all that but never used the term “part” before. She instantly assumed I had zero experience but it’s just a terminology thing in my opinion
@seven9766 Жыл бұрын
The beauty is, it's not even fractions, although very similar: It would be fractions (of a drink) if they all added up to the whole drink, saying nothing about whether you're making one, five, or a smaller one for uncle jim who is the return driver and can't have much. Example would be 1/3 vodka, 1/3 gin, 1/3 lime juice for a strange kamikaze, could be a teaspoon, could be a pint, could be a cubic mile for what it's worth. The "parts" measurement makes everything relative to the smalleast unit you measure, so 6 part gin, 1 part vermouth would just mean use 6x as much gin as vermouth, again ignoring the size. The former is good to describe contents of a drink, but not so great for recipes because you have to calculate how much to put in, the latter is more suited to recipes if you have some standard unit you can rely on and then just count spoonfuls for example.
