You can tell he wants to keep it real. Let's hope he keeps it that way. The minute I sense b.s. because of sensitive sponsors I'm unsubbing. There's enough b.s. and Monkey see Monkey do marketing on Tv & KZbin it's almost an insult to our intelligence.

I bought a set of Fun Country tires from Dick Cepek himself at his store in South Gate, CA in '78. These were the original bias ply tires, mine were 15x36x16.5 on 9.75x16.5 steel wheels, they went on my '74 F250 4x4. I loved those tires! I lived in Socal at the time and Pismo was a favorite destination. They were fantastic on the sand, quiet on road (previous tires were Denman Ground Hawgs), good in mud, and seemed to wear pretty even.

Thanks for the noise remarks. Every review on the internet says "this tire is quieter than I thought!" even for mud terrains. In reality they are never that quiet. I like that you called this out.

Yeah I know this was released 5 years ago. I tend to be behind the times on most things. I remember the DC Fun County tires from the very early 80's. My brothers and their friends had them on their trucks. 40's and 38"s at the time and those were considered huge. Ground Hawgs were also a popular choice. Small trip down memory lane for me, thank you David. Cheers!

Bought brand new Douglas all weather, drove from Houston, Tx to SLC, Ut. One hell of a winter storm hit and I chose to stay an extra week. Another storm was forecasted so I hit the road. Most of Wyoming was bad, but I stopped only once four hours to sleep. Keep speed below 30 mph, downshift, don't use brakes. Helps to live for a time in snowbelt and drive rigs for a bit.

Had 37x13.50 FCII on my old Jeep. Agree with the ice comment, I got stuck in a gas station parking lot. I was impressed with the off-road performance as well, but I didn’t think they were loud at all on the road. Still preferred the Pro Comp Xtreme A/T as far as all terrains go.

I have a 76 GMC Jimmy with the same setup. 350 with 4 speed and 4x4. Not the full-time converted to lockouts, legitimate part-time NP205 transfer case. The only thing I missed was it didn't have a/c. Otherwise, I drove it for 12 years. Had to quit driving it because it had a short in the brake wiring that kept popping the fuse and the seat back welds broke so I didn't have back support. I could do a restoration and get it running again, and just use it as a run-around truck on the farm, but I also have an 82 Suburban that's waiting for a touch-up and It's in much better shape and it's a bigger truck....decisions, decisions, decisions!!!!!!

Sound similar to the Nitto ridge grapplers. Everybody claims they’re dead quiet, not true! Yea they’re quieter than a mud terrain, but still noticeable. But I was actually rather impressed with snow, packed snow and ice performance with the ridge grapplers, they did far better than the all season Goodyear SRA’s I had on my truck before that I took off to put on the ridge grapplers. I was nearly afraid in the rain and snow/ ice with the Goodyears and no they weren’t worn out, they only had 19k miles on them when I took them off.

OH by the way!! Econorazdi is awesome!! Put dual shocks in the back along with a shorter metal bar WITH the shock and it shouldn't bounce around as much. And the back would be stiffer and less sag. All three of the springs you tried on the back all together and it'll (I guess) stiffen up. Front and rear wheelie bars because of stoppies and supercharge the Cadillac motor I think that would be SICK!!

Yeah I’ve had plenty of offers on it, most though want to make it into trail rigs, I’d rather see David with some sponsor $$ to something cool with it and it’s all wheel drive but I have a later model 4x4 trans and transfercase and locking hubs I was going to convert it all over to selectable 2wd-4wd but never had much interest in the wagoneer to actually crack the seal on it.

I live in snow country. That includes ice and salt slush. On ice without studded tires the rear spins. It would have been worse with an automatic transmission. You learn to slip it into 4x4 before acceleration. It can help with stops in the fact the power is pulled to run the front axle. More noticeable when your brakes are not the greatest. Wide tires have trouble with slush. Even wet snow can fill in the treads like mud leaving a slick tire. As to tire noise that just means your music isn't loud enough. Those K series are a great vehicle if the trails are big enough. The only discomfort mine gave me is when you go up hill that has a drop off the other side. That big hood blocks what is coming and give you butterflies in the stomach when it all the sudden starts tipping down.

If you don't care about retro looks and want quiet tires that don't hydroplane and kill it in the mud and muck go with Nitro Trail Grapplers. They're like street tires if you run 32psi but are grippy and dig in good. Toyo Open Country MT are quiet but aren't as good off-road. I'm running 36x15.50r20 Mickey Thompson MT P3 and while they're a little louder they aren't as bad as boggers or mud Grapplers, theyre great on road and even better off road plus they actually make a 15.50 in something smaller than a 38

And thanks, I bought new 35" KO2s for my TJ and I didn't know they were E rated and they are WAY TOO HEAVY... They perform great but it slowed it down a ton with a 4.0 5 speed and stock 3.73s
@shotforshot5983
@shotforshot5983 5 жыл бұрын
It's a trade off though. (03 Rubicon, bought new, use it for everything) I liked the durable carcass of the E rated tires it came with. They of course aren't all created equal though and they don't tend to conform well even when aired down. But that part is ok to me, being more concerned with the jagged rock or construction debris I can't see under the mud. I now sport D range 33's. The mail order places like to advertise E tires because they can sell them to a wider market.

I could take one look at those tires and tell you they're gonna suck in the rain. Modern tires have water channels in the tread to give the water somewhere to go, which is why they're mounted with the tip of the chevron pointing forward. With this tread, there are no chevrons, all of those oblique angles are gonna trap water, hence hydroplaning.

Funny you say these are terrible on ice in the rain. I had the Fun Country II (33 x 12 on 17s) on my 05 Ram an they were great in the snow, ice and rain. Maybe the new ones are not so good or just the difference between the vehicles.
