Hi all, According to DIN and IS standards, springs made from wire or rod with a diameter above 16 mm should be hot coiled due to specific reasons. We have consulted with several manufacturers who claim they can cold coil springs using wire or rod up to 30 mm in diameter. Could you please advise if springs made from wire with a diameter ranging from 16 mm to 30 mm using the cold coiling process would be as effective as those made using the hot coiling process? I look forward to your valuable suggestions. Best regards, Johny

I work for a German spring machine manufacturer we can cold roll to 30mm on our machines and there is no loss in durability, the process is just safer and faster. We use a series of large servo motors to feed the material into dual coiling rollers so there's no need to heat the material like in traditional lathe coiling.

So, I've got Autism. A very high functioning form of it. I have normal intelligence, and so this's going to sound really crazy, but I have weird obsessions. One of the obsessions that has stuck with me, since the age of 11, is COILED SPRINGS!! I'm dead serious! COILED SPRINGS! People often don't think much about these devices, and I came to realize this, when my obsession started. And I think this is a shame. These devices, no matter how small, they play an important part in our daily lives. You know the buttons on devices you press each day, or maybe the triggers you have to pull to get something to work. I'm not talking about guns, although they have coiled springs in their triggers. The springs in a gun is important. Don't get me wrong. BUT, for example, What about the controller on your gaming console that you use to lay? Or, what about the trigger on the saw you might use, is you work with power tools? And as for buttons, there are springs behind a whole lot of these buttons. The springs in your car, that absorb impact, so that you're not feeling every little bump? What about the spring in the screen door? Without these springs, we would not have what we have today. It'd be a lot harder to accomplish these tasks, that we take for granted. So, yes, I'll admit it, I collect these types of springs! I LOVE to collect these! If you don't, you should! You never know when you might need one.
