This is from Title Match Network's exclusive new series with the legendary Greg Valentine.
Hammer discusses his matches against Billy Jack Haynes & Ivan Putski in the World Wrestling Federation. Haynes was a big star in Portland who Vince McMahon signed in the mid 80s.
Valentine recalls the backstage fight between Billy Jack Haynes and Iron Mike Sharpe and how that spelled the beginning of the end.
After that, there was an incident on a WWF flight where Haynes allegedly took too much GHB (notorious workout supplement) and was taken off the plane.

Stand up guy here. Me and my Marine buddies were eating at a restaurant in NC. When Valentine arrive with his posse the owner of the restaurant told us it was reserved for Mr Valentine. We knew what it was about so we just kindly left.Even thou we could of trashed the restaurant but we took the high road. As we were leaving Valentine said now that the who I need to hang around. So he ask us where we were stationed etc. Then he asked us had we had our meal in which we told the manager asked us to wait until their was a table ready because he had it reserved for him. He called the manager over an laid it on him heavy. He told him because of these guys I can travel all over the world etc. Needless to say he paid for our meal and we sit with him. Great wrestler 100 times better person.

Greg has such an encyclopedic knowledge of the business, and such a genuine reverence for it AND "the boys". He reveals everything you need to know about the behind-the-scenes stuff without ever coming across like he has a bone-to-pick or is talking sh*t about anyone. Bill "Ax" Eadie is the same. I could watch their interviews forever. They both truly love wrestling and the wrestlers as much as we do.

One of the best house show matches I have ever seen in person was an '88 Sharpe vs. Boris Zhukov match. Both jobbers. Both heels. And they knew that so they just tore the match up for their own fun knowing half the audience was still at the popcorn stand. Insanely fun, and crazy, AND they gave Mike the win!!!

I've never heard Valentine discuss his early run in the NWA Los Angeles territory where he was supposedly sent to learn bad-guy wrestling under the great heel and master of promos, Golden Greek John Tolos. They ended up in a feud and loser-leave-town match. Tolos lost. Anyway, we've heard Valentine discuss just about everything else and I would love to hear about his time in L.A. and what Tolos was like. Southern California wrestling was spelled T-O-L-O-S in the 1970's. Tolos v. Blassie in the L.A. Coliseum was the highest-attended wrestling match for in L.A. for many years. But today we very, very rarely hear anything about the early Southern California territory. The promoter, Gene LeBell, is still alive at 89 yo. He would be a great interview as he was good friend of Bruce Lee, was a wrestler and one of the toughest guys in L.A., beat a murder charge due to illegal wiretapping, has been seen in a lot of movies and television, all in addition to being the NWA L.A. promoter as the territories saw their last days.

I thought GHB wasn’t a thing until the early 90’s. I didn’t know it was popular with the guys during the early 80’s Billy Jack Haynes WWF days. In 96-97 I was in high school and a friend of mine that ran local independent shows was friends with someone in the WWE that lived here. He told us about this stuff called “Blue Nitro” that all the guys were doing. They sold it in giant jugs at GNC and local gyms. A few of my buddies tried it and I’ve never seen people so out of it. The instructions said “take one cap while sitting in bed. Alert someone around you that you won’t be easily awakened or aroused from sleep.” I don’t know how that ever made it for sale on the open market.

Billy Jack Haynes rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, and he's been mentally unstable for a long time. Billy Jack's use of GHB probably made his psychiatric problems worse. In the WWE you really had to be a "mega star" of the caliber of a Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, or John Cena to be able to get away with "any" illicit behavior, and not get fired. During his stint in the WWE, Billy Jack Haynes was an aging upper-midcarder. He was more expendable than he thought he was, and Vince let him go without any hesitation.

Great stories from this great wrestler. So honest and genuine. I was concerned about his memory lapsing a little bit at the beginning of this interview though.

Billy Jack embarrassed Jake Roberts on TV with a full nelson. Job well done. Did so in Fort Worth way back when.

As an adult remembering those shows from my childhood, I wonder if he actually did have anything in there that he moved or if he just pantomimed that whole thing. I kind of vaguely remember some camera close-ups that seemed to show the outline of something?!? Now whatever it is that is nerfed when turned one way and lethal when "adjusted" through the leather band, I have no idea. But Iron Mike sure did sell that story every week....

I thought Billy Jack was in the shower and Pat Patterson tried to get him but Billy said no way and Pat patterson made a huge stink to Vince. That is the story I heard from a long while back from Billy Jack.

Billy Jack says a lot of things, he's also claimed he witnessed the boys on the tracks incident and the hit on Michael Francke as well as claiming he and Vince McMahon might be brothers.

@@kevthegoat8774 is his story about the boys on the track bullshit? Funny his explanation is more plausible then what the police or anyone claimed happened. One this is for sure they didn't smoke a joint and take a nap on the tracks. R.I.P.

@@rooklane3925 The way he talks about it sounds legit but it's not like he couldn't of just watched a bunch of documentaries on it, Sharlene Wilson who was actually there even admitted to stabbing one of the boys as they all had to do something never mentioned a huge man in a suit and a mask which Haynes claims is what he wore so no one knew who he was. The fact that it's also the second big mystery murder that Haynes claims he was a part of yet no witnesses have ever mentioned him is suspect.

@@kevthegoat8774 definitely sounded fair fetched but like I said closer to the truth then we got. I have read and watched a bit on the case but this sharlene chick is new to me. Is there a video of her story?
