Catching Alaskan Halibut in Southeast Alaska. We are now living in Ketchikan, AK and learning the fishery here. In this video Tj catches a nice size halibut. In need of a Shark hook he improvise with a gaff and lands it. We also do a little crabbing dropping some crab pots with friends.

Halibut fishing.!00.00 dollars worth of gas, a Slack tide,2lbs of lead 200' down, hook halibut and reel in what feels like a 4x8 sheet of plywood.It's all about the groceries when it is all over.LOLLove the video looking forward to more of AK. Ever been knocked out by a big halibut?I have!

Hahaha Yes! Thats probably one of my favorite parts seeing the amount of quality meat that comes from these fish and getting in in the freezer and in my belly. Neither of us has been knocked out yet. Getting them in the boat is definitely an ordeal. lol

I only really surf fish so I've no frame of reference for how difficult it must be to pull up and land a huge fish like that, but that was a beautiful hali! Great job!

We harpoon the big ones and then shoot them..then cut the gills and let them bleed out. but we always have gaffs and shark hooks to pull them up into boat...after they are dead. But you did just fine !..nice fish !

Nice fish but you sure waste a lot filleting like that
@Ogreslol
@Ogreslol 6 жыл бұрын
they didn't waste anything.. the section left behind is covering the stomach and theres tons of parasites living in there so you generally don't take the meat over the stomach on halibut.

Jesus... So much blood in the meat... Google how to properly bleed a halibut bro, that was painful to see.

Just a suggestion .... Maybe warn viewers before clubbing the fish incase children (or people that don't like to see that) are watching . It's just nice to have the choice to see it or not . :)
