In Assetto Corsa Competizione version 1.8 we introduced the new damper setting.

@Aris it is amazing the job you do educating the ACC community. I believe you help setting the community tone. Most of the players are friendly, they help each other and people even become friends after an open lobby race. I think all the other sims should follow @Aris steps in this regard. I don't know him as a boss, but as an youtuber & sim-racer, he is friendly, educative, open, sincere... and that vibe spreads in the ACC community and it is great for everyone.

Would it be possible to get a troubleshooting/setup wizard for force feedback? I am not familiar with all of the FFB effects that are included in the game and how to get the settings setup to feel them correctly or the situations to simulate them. Would be nice to be prompted with here's the ACC version of rumble and ACC does a rumble, then the wizard should say do you feel it? And if not, the suggest what setting to check in the drivers and in the ACC settings page. Then move onto say Wheel scrub and ACC outputs wheel scrub, do you feel it? Y/N and again suggest. Then go thru each of the FFB effects ACC has to offer and allow consumers to feel every one of them. If some are sensitivity, then give here's: low, medium, high and let us try to feel the difference, if no difference then maybe clipping of signal, etc.

Aris one question. For me the damper setting on the game is 0%, but I can feel exactly the friction you talking about in your video. In my wheel (CSL elite PS4) I have damper setting to 100%. Although, setting damper on 50%, in the game, iam losing the feeling of the rear end of my car. So, in your opinion, it is wise to leave it at 0% since I am getting the feel of friction and heaviness of the tyres or to play a little with it and fine tuning it, p.x. put it to 10-20%?

Got AC before christmas and the FFB is amazing. I can feel the car slip underneath me and correct it but in ACC I can't feel it and often spin coming out of corners or I am slow because I am scared to push it thru the turns. Can we get some of that code from AC imported into ACC? I like ACC the game better for the overall theme and online racing but dont enjoy driving it nearly as much as what I am finding in AC. Not sure why AC's FFB was scraped for something different when it is a great FFB experience. Your thoughts on this? Have you driven an Audi LMS 2016 or Ferrari 488 on Mugello in AC?

I believe the "dynamic damping" setting accounts for the gyroscopic force? Damping force is (presumably) proportional to steering wheel rotational speed irrespective of vehicle speed = counteracts steering wheel movement = equivalent to friction caused by bearings, joints, gears and hydraulic fluid in the steering stem. Damping in general is loss/friction

Hey Aris, here's the question: why didn't the realignment, before v1.8, happen because of self-aligning torque from the tyres? I mean, shouldn't the wheel center itself due to the moment itself? Is the damping completely independent from S.A.T.?

The forces aren't high enough to fully mimic real world self-centering and drag from caster. So, we have to introduce "canned" effects like damping.

For csl dd users, here's a more realistic feel ffb settings SEN: 1080 FFB: 100 FFS: PEAK NDP: 100 NFR: 100 NIN: 100 NIT: 1 FEI: 50 FOR: 80 SPR: OFF DPR: 70 BRF: 30 BLI: 10 In Game GAIN: 100 MIN FORCE: 0 DAMPER: 40 DYNAMIC DAMPING: 150 ROAD EFFECTS: 0 FREQ: 400hz. STEER LOCK: 1080 FFB MULTIPLIER: 1.5

@@martinoily Glad to help. Peak setting just feels too weak at the center and too heavy as soon as you start to turn. Very unrealistic. I dont get why others think it should feel like rubber band effect. I used linear on pretty much all of my sim games on PC except FH5 and FM7 on xboxsx.

I have the dd pro from Fanatec and play ACC on ps4 but I don’t have a damper setting on game options so the only way I can take away oscillation is to crank up natural damper to 70 I have the other damper setting towards end of Fanatec wheel tuning menu set to 100. Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I hope to hear back from you sir.

For the Fanatec ClubSport Wheel Base 2.5 should the Fanatec Drift Mode be turned off and damping applied? Fanatec recommends Drift mode be set to -1 and in you TL;DW - Quick and dirty Force Feedback advice video you previously agreed it should be -1 or -2. But with Drift mode at -1 and in game Damping set to 0 I get no oscillation, and in fact there's quite a strong spring effect back to centre. I'm finding the CSW v2.5 feels very numb in ACC. Especially during understeer, there's almost no feedback. I'm hoping the right settings will improve things.

So, I got Fanatec CSL Elite 1.1, and I have set 100% damping in drivers as recommended, when I go into the game, the higher damping I go, the worse the oscilation goes - at 0 its the least amount. What the hell?

Now the game crashes every time I exit the “controls” menu. So cannot play with the “damper” parameter to get it right. EDIT: I deleted the control.json and reassigned everything from scratch and no longer crashes. So far…

Hi Aris. How can you increase damper when the vehicle is completely stopped???? For my taste, the steering wheel should be heavier when it is stopped, and soften a little as soon as it starts to move.

Are this raccomandations even good for budget steering wheel? I have a t-150 and i feel that in ACC the wheel is different... in AC i used to run at high FFB (200%) but here i find it just too soft I think i have 100% FFB but 0% damper and dynamic damper I can go pretty quick with this settings (not alien level but...) but if i raise those things i feel like my T-150 is not acting in a realistic way

im testing this with a fanatec csw 2.5 and my car not ends spining with damper at 0, the wheels moves a lot, i have to test more, my impression is when im driving and the car is going out of control is more easy to recover it. I still noticing the friction in parabolic curve with damper at 0 but maybe is less friction in some other curves like sector 2 and chican, i have to test more

What damper are you using now? I was using 0 but felt no weight on the wheel. I ended up with 100 in fanatec and 7 on acc ingame settings. Wheel isn't light anymore and im still able to correct and react to slides and oversteer. I have same wheel csw 2.5

@@miguelbalujacruz 100% i think is the default ACC setting right?, i have it in 50% if i remember correctly, before at 100%. What happens to me is sometimes i have a weird "light" sensation with no reason, for example i drive 2 laps okey and then the next one the ffb is different, not always but sometimes happen, i always do the test in monza, and this is the track i have noticed this, "maybe" is related to this damper setting, i have to test more. Maybe we are speaking about the light feeling to the same thing, in my case is random. Speaking with another one like 2 months ago in monza with the same base as us, he told me the same, sometimes feeling a light ffb, not always the same ffb as i assume it should be without accidents or whatever.

@@jorge7317 well 100% is the default for dynamic damping wich on our wheel is recomended. Default for Damper is 50 wich in my opinion is way too high. I use exact fanatec recomended settings except for damper wich is at 7 in game settings. As for the difference after 2 laps might be that you tires got into temperature and psi are going to be slightly different from 2 laps before. It is a huge difference in grip and in FFB as well.

Hey mate, sorry to hear you're having problems. It's difficult to help you here especially without knowing what wheel you have, what config, etc. Just a guess, check that the wheel drivers do not point to any wrong .exe profile maybe. Better still if you post in the official forums or join our discord server and ask specifically. Either me or the many other community members will sure help you out.

When over 200 kmh, my T300RS woudn't recenter itself even at 100% damping, both in game and driver! Tested on AMG GT4...

Non direct drive wheels have large frictional losses in their mechanics, which masks low level detail (small inputs from the game). Try increasing "minimum force" in settings. I run 6-7% on my T300RS.

I also have T300RS and it works without problems On the drives I put everything to 100% and autocenter by game. I'm currently using it at 70% it works very well (in the game)

Have not been into settings after 1.8 so I don't know what "damping" is set to as default. Does anyone watching have a TS PC (or TS XW or TGT whatever)? We can share our settings or opinions. I write the post because Aris talks about Natural Damping in driver, that we don't have in Thrustmaster control panel. Let's talk about this. For now I have the settings like Aris (I had this even before, except gain that is lower. I have 60). In control panel I have first 2 voices at 100 as I had before this update. The other 2 at 0. The last one is Damping. I wonder if we have to raise that value or if it is enough to raise to a prefered value in game and stop. (I am trying at 50 now and I have a good feeling). Anyway now I can't play without damping. Without damping I am not able to catch a slide if it happens. To be honest, I can without, but with a much more small percentage.
