@alicedahl7532
@alicedahl7532 5 жыл бұрын
I think Super Nanny knew exactly what she was doing. The whole trip to the Restaurant was to make the mother face what she had created. The pacifier was the best tool to use for this lesson as he supposedly only used it at bedtime. So why is he using it at lunch? Maybe mom gave it to him thinking it would "pacify" him and he would behave. That was a lesson for mom way more than for the child.

If someone let me have something out of the house (the dummy) and then ripped it away from me in a public space where I don’t feel safe, is it not understandable that I’d have a meltdown? Now imagine I have a 2 year old brain and I’m not thinking clearly and communicating my needs in the only way I know how. I hate what they did to this poor child.

So no one is worried about the 9yr old drinking pop but everyone is freaking out about a toddler wanting his pacifier? Hey, I'm not judging EITHER - my kids have pop sometimes and one of my three kids had her paci until she was three (though, admittedly, not in public - but I didn't institute that rule on the fly in the middle of a restaurant full of people!). It's just interesting to see people getting nasty about a TODDLER. A toddler who is having his one real source of comfort removed with no prior warning in the middle of a crowded restaurant. Of course he's going to go off...we all saw that coming.
@tuesdaypatience
@tuesdaypatience 6 жыл бұрын
Oakleaf700 I'm sorry, but that is a horrible thing to say. I hope this mother never reads that. I can't imagine someone seeing one of my kids at their worst and then commenting that I should not have had them!!!! The mother allowed the paci and the behaviors - her parenting techniques needed to be modified. Her TODDLER was not to blame. Jeez.

Technically that WAS a threat. And while being picked up may not seem like a bad thing, he did not like it at all, more specifically because of the way that she was speaking to him. Ashley Piccirillo I understand that which is why children need to be taught how to behave but teachings is a process and other people have to understand that. This is all part in parcel of being a child and learning. You cannot learn to swim without actually getting in the water. It’s the same for dining out. You will only learn how to conduct yourself in a certain situation if you actually get to experience being in that situation.

As a preschool teaching student, I would look at the child at their level and say, "I understand me taking your binky away is making you feel really mad; it's time to eat. What would you like to drink, milk or juice?" I've learned that taking their focus away from the trigger and redirecting them works wonderfully.

In my favorite restaurant there was a kid screaming at the top of his lungs and everyone was staring at her and when she caught my gaze she went “I’m so sorry” and I told her “Your kid doesn’t belong in public!” She covered her face in her hands and started sobbing. Her husband looked like he was going to get up and say something but I grabbed my drink and he sat back down. This was the perfect setting for teaching both the child AND the mother. Although, it was rough on the other diners, the mother and child had to experience this lesson at the restaurant since this was the place where the mother was clueless, and the child was never given rules and guidance. Telling the child ahead of time "we're going to a restaurant so you'll have to behave", would fall on deaf ears. This kid had to experience the lesson right there at the place where he has his tantrums. It's kind of like teaching someone to swim by letting them experience having their bodies in water, and not just looking at the water. Glad the nanny offered to pay for the man's meal at the end.

yeah but see I'd have taken my child to the bathroom, given her three firm swats on the bare butt, and then sat her down for a good long lecture as to why her behavior was unacceptable. You can't let a child have control. This Mom just let the toddler take control, and it wasn't fair on her, on her other children, or on the diners. But most importantly it wasn't fair to the toddler himself. Children need to learn self control. They need to learn what is allowable in public. How far they can push mom and dad before they get an abject lesson in manners. This mom learned how important it is to maintain control over her children. She'll get it now.

That’s because kids tend to listen to intimidating strangers more than their parents. With their parents they know they can get away with it.

and do what with the other children? leave them alone in a restaurant with strangers? lmao, yeah right!!! if there are two parents u can take one outside, if only one, then u have to stay with all kids. reality check.

@@mistymichellerobinson3349 well if you are alone with problem children you discipline them properly at home and practice eating at a table at every meal until they learn, until they do you don't eat out with them.

She's awesome, isn't she? But we do understand how hard it is for other parents to get mad or show authority to their own kids, then there are parents who do not even have to say one word but with a mere glare, their kids would instantly know it's time to behave. It's really nice when there are people like Nanny Jo who's willing to share her expertise on kids.
