As someone with an Oura ring - the big issue with the monthly payment is around ‘who owns your own health data’. This isn’t information propiertary to oura, and you’ve already paid a substantial price for the device to track it ( the stealth one you display is $550 ). It’s not ok, and a terrible precedent - we should not be ok with companies selling us the data that the devices we paid to collect it produce, and you, Jonathan, should be much more upfront about that IHMO. They bait and switched their entire customer base as well, given the subscription model is relatively new. I love their device, but this trend needs to stop, and it will only stop if creators like yourself acknowledge the problem.

Do you pay an access fee for your cell phone network? Pretty sure you do. Its no different than that and most people are okay with paying for a new phone every 2 years and the carrier and Google/Apple have all your data too and make you pay a substantially higher monthly fee. Makes it kind of silly to complain about a $6 monthly fee.
@tizzy83
@tizzy83 9 ай бұрын
@@djorgensen3Those are entirely different concepts. Verizon as a service that you're constantly transferring data over, vs the apple watch that just collects data and uses that service to transmit. Oura is double dipping - if Apple pulled the same thing everyone would, justifiably, freak out. Oura is doing a subset of what other similar offerings do, and charging monthly fee for a bad reason. Separately, if I could use Oura to communicate with other devices, then comparing it to a communications service would make sense. It doesn't though, and there really is not a way to justify this past greed.

thats why i bough ringconn. Only paid for the device and I get the data I want. I also own an apple watch and never really had any reason to buy the smart rings with subscription since my watch can do it anyways. When ringconn came out, decided to buy it and I can now use a regular watch with the ring and still get the data I need.

I've been an oura user for 2 years and I love it! I'm retired and I don't have many "pace-makers" in my life right now. This ring has made me more vigilant about my sleep and activity and it provides me with timely recommendations for my next day. I have sleep apnea and it has been very helpful in monitoring apneic episodes and O2 saturation throughout the night. I have learned to be more regular and synchronized with my unique circadian rhythm . My sleep scores have improved as a result. I bought one for my wife as well who was finding her fitbit inconvenient to keep charged an ready. I love this device! It provides unobtrusive, meaningful information for people who want non-judgmental feedback on their lifestyle.

Sleep tracking is the key feature with the Oura Ring and being that it has such a small footprint compared to wearing something like an Apple Watch to bed, it makes getting sleep data that much more comfortable. I go back and forth with whether or not to purchase the ring due to the subscription but like you said, I guess it depends on the value of the information.

I've been really interested in this device ever since it's debut. I saw the Motiv and then the Oura (thought they were same company) and thought it was a great sleep tracker (for my sleep apnea). Sadly I'm on the losing side of capitalism and this is outside of my reach (maybe one day). Glad you seem to be doing better.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ve been wanting one of these for ages. I have multiple medical issues where Oura’s metrics could provide valuable information to me and my doctor so we would have a starting point to know how to handle my care. Oura just seems to provide so much more info than an Apple Watch - and it does it seamlessly. I can’t afford to buy one of these being disabled since 2003, as well as ill since 2018, and homebound since mid-2019. I have a service dog to take care of with my very fixed income. I keep hoping Oura will get the necessary approvals that would allow doctors to prescribe one so Medicare and Medicaid insurance can pay for it - poor, elderly, ill, and disadvantaged populations need access to these types of devices as we tend to be the unhealthiest and most sleep deprived as compared with the average population. Thanks for the opportunity to win an Oura. Whoever gets one of them will have an amazing life tool at their disposal! I hope I’ll be that person - and I can be reached with the same sn as my KZbin handle on Instagram and Twitter. 😉

I feel like sleep is the worst aspect in my life and I haven’t realized how important it is or how much of a difference it can make. I also love the idea of steering away from notifications on your face all day which is exactly why I would like something like this to keep track of my health while also being able to disconnect from media.

Like you said, one of the beauty of the device is that it gives you all the health sensors without the need to have a screen attached and all the distractions that would have come if it was a smartwatch. For a person who struggles with sleep, my watch4 does helps me with some level of basic insight, but the watch form I felt was counter intuitive to something to improve sleep..

Very good assessment. The best advice I can give anybody is to check all your data every morning. I am nearly 70 and last autumn I got out of this habit for a few days while spending time with family. It was during that period that my heart developed atrial flutter and had I been paying attention to my Oura ring I would have seen a doctor much earlier than I eventually did. I'm ok now but could have saved myself some extreme discomfort.

This might sound too basic as a feature to mention but the favorite feature for me definitely is the gamification of sleep quality. I've been trying to sleep and wake up early consistently for the past few months and it's been basically a week or a couple days of going to bed and waking up at roughly the same times, breaking that pattern, trying to fix it and failing, and finally going nuclear and not sleeping for 24hrs to reset my schedule (because it's more difficult for me to try to sleep earlier than I did yesterday, it always slips later and later). Being stressed probably doesn't help either but this would be the perfect device to help me bring a new perspective to sleeping, so I can keep track of the data better instead of me trying to keep track of it. And obviously do it much better than I could as well, knowing the probable cause of what's making me feel tired would probably help alleviate the gaslighting that you impose on yourself on those days where you're not sure why you're still feeling tired despite having gotten perhaps lots of hours of sleep as well, and help people understand how and why getting a lot of hours of sleep might not guarantee you feeling 100% that day with helpful articles in the app (obviously barring any other medical conditions).
