Character Loadout Design: Bill, The Survivalist | The Last of Us Online Multiplayer

Greetings, Strategists! I am honored to bring you my sixth Character Loadout Design...the highly anticipated design of our favorite survivalist, Bill!
So several months ago I decided that I wanted to make a loadout that was true to Bill of Bill's Town. He was the first Character Loadout Design that I had attempted. The 9mm, machete, and shotgun were absolutely necessary...and by utilizing my infamous machete trick I could make it a reality. The thing is, the first few loadouts and attempts came off well, but it wasn't GREAT. Something seemed off. Sure, running 9mm-only to start can be tough for many...but it was the bombs, or the lack thereof, that wasn't true to how I believe Bill would roll.
Fast forward to now...and I think a few tweaks to the loadout design (inclusion of Bomb Expert 2, and Lucky Break 3), really makes this Bill, The Survivalist loadout shine!

Optimal Play Styles For This Loadout:
➤ Play slow and methodical to start, hitting boxes to craft smoke/nail bombs to your advantage. Once you have an upgraded machete, switch to the second loadout and use the shotgun as an aggressive Lone Wolf!
Optimal Engagement Ranges For This Loadout:
➤ This loadout is most effective at close range (9mm, Machete, Shotgun), but can be decent at medium range (9mm, throwables) with good aim.
Optimal Maps For This Loadout:
➤ Bill's Town, Capitol, Checkpoint, High School, Hometown, Water Tower, Wharf

Granted, he is alone because he is insecure and fears losing control...and drives everyone else away from him because of that fear. Also, despite his gruffness and belligerent attitude, he is one of the most honorable characters in the game. Literally saves Joel and Ellie, multiple times. I also found his interactions with Ellie to be some of the best in the game...hilarious! 😂😆👍🏻

Yeah that was a Bill loadout for sure. I really liked Bill. Surly bloke with a dry S.O.H who did'nt take any crap, but he was a good guy. He and Ellie had some humorous exchanges in their time together. Great idea with the TLOU2 Bills Town DLC concept. It would be good to continue his side story, seeing as he was such a great character and one of only a few who survived TLOU as far as we know. You're doing really well with these 9mm only loadouts Strats. Maybe a little too good. Nice bomb bank btw.

I agree, Matt! Bill is definitely on of my favorite characters in the game...and his back-and-forths with Ellie are probably my favorite funny moments in the game. Just so good...beautifully written. It was be a damn shame if we never heard from Bill again. The true lone wolf, surviving well past others...isolated and protected by his own insecurities and feel of losing control. Brilliant character in my mind...the game would've impossible without him, in my mind. Mighty big words, I know...but just my opinion. 😉👍🏻 Thanks for all your support, Matt...you da man!

There is the hitch of machete and shotgun both being purchasables, but luckily they machete trick provided a workaround whereas I could make this Bill loadout a reality. Awesome loadout man! This one truly captured Bill's character. As for my thoughts on Bill, I personally think he's awesome. The way I see it, he's just pretending to be tough and rude cuz that's probably how he's hiding his fear of what's out there. Basically he's a tough guy with a heart of gold. Hey Strats, like so many great characters in TLOU he is a person with so many complex layers, making him a rich interesting character, and it's amazing how Naughty Dog manage to develop so well multi-dimensional characters even with smaller screen time...GG for the gameplay and yep 9MM only can be tough (I do better with Enforcer only, lol)...awesome bomb bank, Bobby would be proud! 👍😄

Good loadout here, I wish I had Lucky Break and Bomb Expert so I could try it. Using the Machete trick was an absolute must for this one, I knew you'd exploit the glitch in order to pair it with the Shotgun 🧐 I (kind of) made a Bill loadout a while ago but never actually tried it but I believe I'll mix it up with some of your ideas since I don't own some of the perks you used and see it turns out. Anyway keep it up, can't wait to see what you're gonna come up with with that Tess loadout!

Fun loadout. Good synergy too, especially with the machete trick. As an aside, do you ever feel like there are too many health packs laying around? I feel like the main threat of, say, the crossbow or hunting rifle are pretty diminished by having a health kit every 20 feet on the maps. Plus it makes Second Chance less useful, and harder for medics to get points as well. #ShowerThoughts

Haha, I love your Shower Thoughts! 😂😆👍🏻 Yes, I did find it a bit strange that there were so many medkits lying around...and on certain maps it much worse as due to the close proximity to each one (two medkits in one room on High School). It would definitely be interesting if the medkits respawned much slower too. But, I think the medkits do make each life seem a bit more valuable, and make the multiplayer less Battlefront/COD-like in that lives don't generally mean a whole lot.

It doesn’t really add to the load out but if you equip the gas mask and no hat it makes it seem more like bill, for the helmet armor I used the football helmet (since there was a high school and all) I interpreted him taking a helmet or two for armor.

Explosive ending. I think the best DLC for TLOU Part 2 would be about Tess, Joel and Bill doing some business in Bill’s town. We could have found out what Joel did for Bill back in the day.

But for Bill...the stackable idea is essential, along with the machete trick, to get that machete + shotgun final form! It's so OP when you get it all put together! 😊👍🏻

Nice. I think you have captured the essence of all the characters. No easy way to get all the things you want but I think the shotgun and machete is great along with all the perks. I have tried all your load outs so far and will try this one out too. I have done the best with Ellie so far out of the characters. The Jocomat has been a good one for me to practice with the hunting rifle outside of the characters you have done. Hawkeye is a real advantage and combined with damage marker is even better. I use the hr, bow and burst the least since I started playing but being that I finally got to 999 I feel like I need to get proficient with all the weapons. A new challenge to keep things fresh. Each load out has a style that can be taken advantage of. Up close and personal combat all the way to long range encounters.

I agree, Virtualyme! I wanted to make the channel cover all aspects of the game. It's not intended to be a highlight reel of me doing well with just a few weapons I'm comfortable with. I try everything, try all the game modes, and different challenges to keep it fresh...which, honestly, one needs to do with a game that has been out 5+ years! I am enjoying replaying the story mode for the first time in years...and that is what the Character Loaodut Designs are...a bridge between the Story Mode and the Multiplayer.

Howdy! I've got all the loadout designs finished so don't you worry. 😉👍🏻 As far as a schedule goes...I do have one...I typically release videos on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Sometimes I'll skip one for a variety of reasons, but yeah...those are usually the days. I like having flexibility and not being tied to certain times tho.

I tried crafter 3 with a similar design first and it just didn't work as well...if your team is doing well, you don't get as many materials to craft and thus few gifts. I mentioned it Tommy Miller's loadout video. 😉👍🏻

The fate of bill's town dlc would have to have more than just: survive clicker/raider waves because it would just be the same as Uncharted. Even with the limited ammo the game mode would be boring. I think that a more story driven survival story for bill would be much more interesting.

Thanks, Robert! Yeah, maybe I wasn't clear...the Fate of Bill's Town DLC would be a single player story mode...like Left Behind, and entirely from the viewpoint of Bill. It would be a excellent way to explore both Bill's past and fate after Joel and Ellie left town. 😉👍🏻
