One should understand that TMK becomes meditative when he sings and all his physical expressions come in unison with the spirit of the song. Traditional katcheries are repetitive and performed to satisfy the audience. TMK is certainly not on the beaten track.

In one of Sikkil Gurucharan's "Jannal Oram" episodes, he mentioned about "Poonguyil Koovum" song. I then googled and listened to several renditions of this song because I wanted to learn the song. I liked all the renditions but TMK's version touched my heart the most and taught all possible nuances of the song! What a composition of Kalki Krishnamurti! The song starts at 9:48 minutes into the video. Long live, TMK!

Though Shri T M Krishna is as delectable as ever, his pattern of vilambakala can become quite boring after a point. Makes me feel that the traditional kutcheri format (which TMK disapproves in almost all his interviews) was developed to beat this feeling of cliche

Though I generally prefer a slower pace, I completely agree. He even continues to use very standard ragas for the most part. Can get very boring

getting a bit bored with similar/same ragas and the same slow pace and even very same prayogams. With same body language as well. Sure the concert had more exciting bits in it. So cannot see this video in isolation.

No one uses such attire in concerts....
@kausthubh_chandramouli4 жыл бұрын
Is that relevant to anything?
@sureshckurup30574 жыл бұрын
Why not? Have you ever seen a singer wears a t-shirt and do concert? There is a system of everything. We are allowed to make little change, but not like this. I respect his tallent and even I learn from his rendition.
@kausthubh_chandramouli4 жыл бұрын
@@sureshckurup3057 I haven't seen a singer wear a T-shirt, but it isn't indecent here, so what's the issue? During this coronavirus lockdown I've heard many Instagram or Facebook Live concerts where people sing in T-shirts or whatever they're comfortable in. Doesn't change the music. And he's also doing it to prove a point, that the system has fundamental flaws.
@sureshckurup30574 жыл бұрын
@@kausthubh_chandramouli Brother, I dont want to discuss it any more. But, when we mean something is classic, that means, nothing can be added to it and nothing can be removed from it as well. So, the system need to be intact with little changes according to the time. Here, he is not sitting in his home and doing practice. This is a classical carnatic concert in front of Rasikas.

@@sureshckurup3057 jji. He is one such weird man and wantedly he is changing the good old tradition of formal attire. Many genius are like that...they dont fit themselves in normal routine format....but we shud tolerate those cranky things and listen his adorable music ....what to do...in one concert he was wearing a lungi too....

Haha.. This is an issue which I have observed in numerous videos of TMK with Subbalakshmi. She's a great violinist, but should definitely refrain from making those clicking sounds
@akshaykoushik99684 жыл бұрын
Do either of you know what it’s like to perform live? It’s one thing to sit and comment on the Internet, quite another to be performing at that level. These “noises” you refer to are just in appreciation to the quality of music being produced on stage- a very natural reaction. Would you rather that they just sit there like robots? If they don’t enjoy each other’s music on the stage, there’s no point in performing together. Looking at your comments, I’m very sure that neither of you know what you’re talking about.
@ooksey4 жыл бұрын
I'm very sure you don't know how to react politely on the Internet. People like TMK and Subbulakshmi have reached where they are cause they are humbled by the art rather than being conceited about it. Pity you would never understand that.
@akshaykoushik99684 жыл бұрын
akshay moturi My intention was never to be polite in my response to your comment and I’m not sorry for it. It bemuses me that there are people who are even discussing sounds of appreciation coming from artists on the stage! Look at the bigger picture, if you can. Focus on the music than on the “noise”. And your judgment of my understanding about anything, means nothing to me. I’m only pointing out what’s wrong in your comment. If you can’t take it in the right spirit, I have nothing further to say. :)

@@akshaykoushik9968 Refraining from any useless personal observations. I do know a meagre bit about music and Carnatic music in particular and I understand the I musicians' urge to make sounds of appreciation, but that is as u too very well know is not part of the piece, but is still getting amplified on the mic, and it is distracting to a keen ear. I hope u can take this opinion in the right spirit.
