Why Did MotoGP Race At Abandoned F1 Circuit? I visited the F1 circuit that was abandoned, only for MotoGP to visit the Buddh International Circuit years later. Would it be a success for MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3? I found out.

Nice Script….glad you guys loved the circuit. The track guys from Spain, Uk, Singapore and India and some other parts of the world, spent 2.5 months with an average of 3 to 5 hours sleep., worked really hard to make a good and safe circuit. We also look forward to make it a better race next year.

@@rustteze Thst is not true. Even COTA had more attendance over its 3 days. It’s currently on the 24 Calendar but they also have the new track in Hungary as an alternate on standby. Is Indian government will to spend another €15M equivalent to host a GP that is so poorly attended?

@@MichaelM-to4sg as far as I know, Silverstone had a bit less than india too, although the main culprit in india was advertising. Dorna said that because of track redevelopment costs, they were unable to allot much for advertising. Moreover, few stands were not opened for the public due to non maintenance, including the one at parabolica. Regarding the government, I doubt he won't more, the state chief minister was there in person, and he's a bit of a sucker for publicity for the state. I read he carried out bilateral meetings with all company heads present there and promised more for next time. Anyway doesn't matter, the main cost borne was by Dorna, the organiser, and it was in profit by the end of operation. So why not.

Hi Taylor, Thank you for posting such a balanced video. I was a flag marshall for the GP and we faced quite a few challenges too but that won't stop me from volunteering again next year😅. Hopefully by next year a new international airport will start functioning which is just 30kms from BIC and also a few hotels are in works near the circuit. There are quite a few very nice hotels at Pari Chowk which is only 18 KMs from the circuit. This GP was chaotic and i'm really sorry that you were not able to experience the real Indian hospitality. Hopefully you'll come to India next time and give us another chance. Thanks to Dorna and everyone responsible for bringing MotoGp to India. Hopefully F1 returns too. Thank you again for being this understanding🙏🏼.

My wife and I should be in India right now but sadly she has been ill so we couldn’t go. I have been to India hundreds of times (and eaten out every day never been ill goodness knows what you got hold of at the airport ) in the last 20 years including Delhi Noida and Gurgaon (the Mosaic used to be a good hotel in Noida) many times. We got our visas on line in less than 24 hours BUT until the middle of the year U.K. citizens could not get on line visas as our govt pissed off the Indian govt so they withdrew the on line facilities for a while. Most GOOD Indian hotels are fabulous - try the Taj or Oberoi group. All the major international chains are there and are good. India is a fabulous country and the people are delightful. By the way, the Indian government banned these visa agencies ages ago so I have no idea who your Bobby was working for but they had to be iffy. Next year apply on line well before hand and get 5 years visas - then problem solved for a while.

Hey Taylor, Thanks for posting such an interesting video. I can totally understand and emphasize with your predicament whilst in India. However, please note that there are a few learnings that you should take away from this. 1. Hotels: Even in a place like London, you can find dingy hotels having rooms and sheets smelling of puke, and blankets feeling like they've never been cleaned. You know not to go to those hotels based on their reviews and some general research on the internet. The same applies for India. and even more so for Noida. You would have found terrific places to stay in Delhi (like "The Leela Palace" or "The Taj Palace" that you showed at 11:30). But I understand if you were trying to save a few bucks there on accommodation. Personally, we found a great AirBNB in Greater Noida, despite being from Maharashtra (another state a bit far away), having never been to Noida ourselves before, simply by looking at pictures and communicating with the host (in English). 2. Transportation: I'm curious about why you had to take a bus from the Airport to your Hotel, to the circuit? "Noone was allowed to hire a car". Did that mean that you weren't allowed to hire a Uber? Was this enforced on you by your Team Manager/Owner or the Organizer? Maybe you could throw some light on this. (Personally, we got an Uber straight from the Airport. Did you know that there's a dedicated Uber Zone inside the Airport?) 3. Delhi Belly: Ordering food in an Airport lounge isn't something that even we Indians usually do, unless its a cup of coffee. Instead, we make use of the many terrific restaurants and franchise food joints in the Airport itself. You've even got KFC, McDonalds, Subway, etc. As a rule of thumb, preferably eat something at a Franchise whilst at an Airport. Indians themselves don't prefer eating Indian at the airport, because we know that we can get the good quality meals at well-known restaurants near where we reside. Next time you wish to try curry while in India, please go to a famous restaurant which is not at the Airport. Hope you guys have better luck next year. Cheers!

He did say that the others were at amazing facilities so they will probably choose those the next time. Or if it's a budget issue, they now know what to avoid. They were most likely asked to take the bus instead as a safety issue because it's easier to secure a bus than each individual car. Agree that airport food isn't great. But it's best to start by just tasting Indian cuisines first and slowly building up to an entire meal to let the stomach get used to the spices. Specially with curries. Since they have to work and only get the opportunity to try it on the last day, the should imo just share a small portion of curry and complete the meal with something they're more used to. They will probably be able to have entire Indian meals on all 4 days with subsequent trips.

@@indicat2942look the point is he himself chose that hotel by looking up online. It wasn't like event mangers put them there and had no other option. So my question is why is he whiny about it so much?! And why is it being portrayed like 'the hotels in India are not great'. Well there's whole bunch of five star, four star and thousands of three star hotels in and around Delhi. You choose a wrong place that's your mistake buddy. Don't blame it on the country! Cheers! ✌️

Lol, funny story. 1. Pre-plan hotels, there are sketchy hotels in every country in the world. 2. Even if you eat at the fanciest Indian hotel, you are likely to get a Delhi belly. Because curry here is filled with local spices, unlike the curry in the UK. 3. I live in Nepal, and I sometimes dare to eat outside my friend's house on my travels to Delhi. Taylor, in 1988 when I was 18 years old, I traveled all over India for 6 1/2 weeks with my close friend whose family is from there. For the first 2 1/2 weeks? I didn’t really eat. No exaggeration! I was already the tallest thinnest person you had ever seen in your life. almost at my adult height of 6 foot four yet I was barely 150 pounds when I arrived in India and had lost over 25 pounds when I got home. I didn’t get sick in India until I was in New Delhi at a five star hotel and I ordered, I made the mistake of ordering a cheeseburger. And the cooks in the kitchen punished me for ordering holy cow. I survived India by eating bread with the vegetarian sauces that were available most everywhere. However! One time a bone came out of the vegetarian sauce bowl and I didn’t eat for another week! Yes Delhi belly is real.. I’m very glad you guys survived and brought the incredible racing of MotoGP to India… You are a soldier for that Carry-on!

Now that it has, I am sorry about what everyone had to go through. Having lived in the UK for a while, I understand your perspective. Watching the type of hotels you are choosing, I guess you guys are on a budget. You can find good hotels for a cheap price too, you must get help from a local next time. India is definitely changing but not uniformly and Indian food, even if it's very hygienic and fresh, will get you as you are not used to the spices. Just have to eat more to adapt. Otherwise, there are always fast-food chains. You can also get pot noodles at a significantly cheaper price here compared to Tesco or ASDA.

Hopefully next year there will be less hassle so that you can explore more of our culture :) About the hotels, again, there are a lot of options, one should know their way around. What I'd suggest is to tie up with some good local agency or maybe ask people of Dorna to organize some local person for each team to manage all these things, only local person would know what's the best thing around and what's the worst. Hi Taylor, Thanks for coming to India and giving us the show. I was there as a spectator. While i cant help with the visa, can surely say that you got a really raw deal with hotels. Indian hotels provide one of the best hospitalities, provided you are at the good hotel like jaypee resorts, crowne plaza etc. I m sure you heard about it from others in the paddock. Would have been better to just ask nay Indian to guide before booking. Delhi belly is nothing but non indians not being used to the richness of butter and apices in food. At good hotels, you get options that are lighter. India is definitely not England or europe or Australia and needs good research before traveling and booking. Hope you get a better tour planner or guide to help with bookings for 2024. I m from Noida and trust me, i have travelled a few countries and there is no vetter hospitality than India, provided you book the right place and sufficiently in advance

His team was probably on a budget and considering that the event involved thousands of visa applications, there's a good chance that all the decent hotels had already been booked by the bigger teams. All things considered, it made sense why they didn't booked the hotels early on.

I think he knows perfectly well that the event (any racing event) requires a lot of planning. However, what made the race in India different to other races they've had around the world, was that the infrastructure from the host to support the MotoGP event (the hotel, transportation, visa application system, etc) wasn't there/not sufficient to host an event of this magnitude.

Thing in India is it's heavily populated so, " survival of the fittest ". With population comes competition ,so you'll go through all streams of life. Hence having a trustworthy local or agency is a must.

I think pre planning was the issue. Everything seemed to be done in Hurry. As an Indian even I don't stay in those hotels you booked. Things could've been much better, smooth and exciting if you had local staff and local team in the planning. I think lack of information and local knowledge caused these issues which can be avoided easily.

The only gap is see here is missing a good guide...being Indian and a frequent traveller of Europe ,the same concerns I had ,whether we will get vegan food, where to eat, stay, etc etc.But we invested time to look for best options, every place has some good and some bad options India has lot of options and that includes a big chunk of bad ones too and that is not just in India but in any big city of the world(atleast I can say that for Rome,Vienna,France,Prague and many more. The only suggestion when you plan pleasedo some research.Still if you think you need some local advice, you can reach out to some local there( I won't mind guiding you as Noida being my native place and yes it does not have that great options like Delhi ) but has a lot to offer . Currently I live in Poland but would be happy to share the best options to live and eat all kind of food with highest standards.

Taylor when I went to riders school in Henderson Texas. At the time it was the only riders school in Texas, and there were two motels and of course I stayed in the cheapest one. I woke up in the middle of the night with leaches crawling over me. It wasn't funny then , but now I get kind of a chuckle. The same track that Colin Edwards, Doug Polen, Freddie Spencer, John Kosinski and so on went to riders school. But sorry to hear about getting sick especially on a plane. Glad your back!!

Interesting insights👍 Hard to imagine that at this level there is no one in the organisation responsible for managing bureaucratic and logistical arrangements--visas, hotels, transport, etc.--for all team members. Strikes me as highly unprofessional to have people--riders, mechanics, technicians, etc.--waiting at an airport for official documentation. All of this should have been organised and settled well before the first race of the season!

Honestly it's nice to have MotoGP actually go to a circuit that's spent hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to host the show. Sokol, Kymiring, etc, have all fallen by the wayside for some reason or other, and left with significant investments that haven't paid off. That really sheds a negative light on Dorna. The fact that they managed to get this race going and that the races were good makes me happy.

Not an Indian hating, but Poor choices at your end (seems to be lacking accountability) The race organisers should have given a FAQ sheet if they're not providing basic ammenities like accomodation and food. Maybe this should be added to organiser SOP. India is an economically diverse country, having products and services coming at every price range. Honetly you booked hotels that very cheap, not sure why.

I'll suggest planning early next time or get in touch with an Indian fan they will help you out more than an agent. I was wondering about the hotel situation around the circuit, as for many years it hasnt seen any real events, the hotel industry didnt have proper motivation to start there, with MotoGP happening there now and promising to come back. I believe real hotel chains like JW Marriot, ITC , Hyatt,.. will open up there. What you have experienced in terms of hotels is perhaps the worst India can offer but over the years I am sure the experience even around the circuit will develop to a greater standard. I have had really shitty experience in hotels in Canada and USA but I cant say hotels in these countries are all bad. As far as food is concern India being the brand ambassador of world cuisines I just think you had to eat wisely in the buffet. Nevertheless it is a great achievement on both MotoGP and Buddh International Circuit's part.
