I think most people get hung up on Stage 3 - You get through that tough water section, and then you're just dropped into this massive zone with no direction. It's a tough game!

@@UCanBeatVideoGames Getting through the sewers on stage 3 comes down to learning the three different jumps; light press for a 3 block jump, medium for a longer one, and hold for a high jump. Most of the sewers can be cleared with the light jump, which makes all those 3 block jumps trivial. Also note there are buildings you can use to get a dead turtle back in both stages 3 and 4. Finally, the endgame gets really easy if you farm for scrolls, which you can do in both stages 3 and 4.

Definitely true! If I were to redo this video, I'd definitely show where you can find a lost Turtle in Stages 3 and 6 (I do show the ones in Stage 4 and 5) Personally, I think the best place to farm Scrolls is in Stage 5 - it's the easiest spot to get them, and just in case you die before that, you don't waste all of the time you spent farming.

That's a great memory. I remember the time I deleted my ol' man's file on Link to the Past, by accident... It was, honestly, the first time, in my life, that I thought, "Fuck! Dad's gonna beat the shit outta me!" A few years later, an ex deleted my Manhunt save file, in much the same way... Looking back, and, now, knowing how he must have felt, my Dad would have been justified! :)

@@MrSilksoul Just prep more. If you hoard scrolls you can lay out any tougher enemies quickly. If you get boomerangs, you can use them freely if you catch the majority of them. I prefer to put them on Leo or another turtle besides Don since they deal as much damage as a bo strike from a greater distance. If you want to switch who has boomerangs, you can toss them and switch characters to catch them moving them 3 at a time. The base damage most of the turtles deal is too low for the number of hps the enemies half, so take full advantage of your subweapons.

If I did my turtle were either really weak or dead and o didn’t know where to go or what to do after that. As of today I’ve beaten the turtle van level and reaches the building way in the back after shooting down all the barriers. Once I enter the building I’m in this sewer and haven’t been able to make that first jump sk I always land in the water and get swept away back to the begging of the level. My father bought me this game when it first came out. I spent a lot of time playing it, re-playing it, dying and trying over and over and over again. Konami basically made you memorize the flow of their games otherwise you couldn’t beat them. Without using any guides I was eventually able to play through the game and beat it easily in one setting. Now I am 40 years old and I don’t have the dexterity or the attention span to play this game. I definitely will buy the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game collection simply so I can play this game, TMNT 2 and Turtles in Time. I’m actually glad this game exists because it’s a sharp contrast as an adventure game to all of the four player beat them ups that came later. Realistically, the four player beat them ups are exactly what kids actually wanted while the adventure game is closer to what I wanted. This is also the type of game that is perfect for an arcade or party.

I think I was able to 5-7 years old when I played this game on my NES, I had such a blast, even though I'm pretty sure I was terrible at the game. Watching this video certainly brings back lots of nostalgia. I've also just found out from the video that each turtle had different strengths, lol. I guess it reminds me of The Lost Vikings now.

Very useful and informative. Also, if one turtle picks up the boomarangs he can 'pass' them to the others by throwing a few out then switching to another turtle before catching them again. This way you can spread them around so everyone has some.

This game was brutal and my top 10 hardest NES games I've ever played (ones I've own personally) and only the Simpsons being the only NES game I've never been able to beat (beaten this game twice ever after hardcore grinding it as a kid back in NES days). This game was surprisingly deep. Not a lot of people knew as your health got lower, you did more damage with that turtle so it made Donnie (the most broken turtle) even stronger. It was interesting how the balance of the turtles was. Donnie was the strongest, had the best range, but I think was the slowest to recover from his attacks while Leo felt like the weakest turtle of the 4. Mick and Raph felt like the middle ground turtles (not great but not awful either) and their weakest points was their range which was dangerous against specific enemies and most bosses. Generally these two would just be your turtles for soaking damage for hard sections so prevent losing Donnie. Watching this is inspiring and you realize how much grinding and actual skill you needed to beat this hard games. Well done!
