Lovely reaction. I have been unable to cry for decades, and this song continues to wreck me every time I listen to it. As do several of his other songs. I can’t express what his music means to me. I feel as though I’m becoming human again.

That was a beautifully expressed reaction. I love how Ren has created this safe space for people to be authentic and not feel ashamed by their feelings. What I also love about Ren's work is that within 30-40 seconds he manages to capture and elicit feelings, and the viewer to Care about the persona he is portraying (be it himself or a character) that often even big budget films with top name producers, directors, cinematographers and A-list actors can take a good 30 minutes to get to, and within 3 minutes of his song have us as heartbroken and gut punched as a film ending after 90 can achieve

Place and space are important factors in Ren's live performances. The performance is dictated by the forceful opening of the chair at the beginning reverberating in the empty space. The sound of the echo prompts Ren to make up the song in the moment, you can see him severl times thinking up the lines between notes. Chalk Outlines is a metaphor for the empty space flelt inside. Chinchilla also emerges from the walls and echos Ren's firsr verse and the reverberations increase when the sing together. The choreography also follows the sound, she sinks back and lower in the quieter moments and come face to face when it becomes more intense. As an echo would, she has the last word before the lights go out and the darkness desends.

Your early assessment of the phrase 'Chalk Outlines' hits the nail on the head i think. Chinchilla's first line is 'Sertraline and a sip of serotonin'. Not sure what Sertraline is called in the US, but it's an anxiety/anti-depressant medication. being on Sertraline myself, I sometimes feel like i am walking around in a shell of myself, completely numb to the world around me. Whether that is the medication or a side effect of what the medication is suppressing I'm not sure, but chalk outline sums it up perfectly in my opinion. The way these two portray this feeling in art form is purely breathtaking! Great reaction, This song choked me the first 100 times i heard it, and still now.

Thank you for such an intensely sincere and vulnerable reaction and for sharing it with us. I hope the rest of your day is gentle with you. You shouldn't feel bad for the "self promotion" as Ren is so supportive of all his fellow creators, be they vocalists, musicians, videographers, or reactors. You're giving his music time and space, and you need to nurture the platform upon which you raise his voice aloft so that more people hear it.

i was literally just going through reaction videos of ren and when i went back to my homepage this popped up and i nearly fell out of my chair in excitement. you're one of my favorite reactors when it comes to aurora and you remain so in the case of ren as well. you don't just listen or break it down, you *feel* it. your emotion is palpable during this and i teared up with you, even though i've watched dozens of reactions to this. it feels almost cruel to request "how to be me", the other one with chinchilla, because that one breaks me even more than this one does, but i'm still very happy to hear that it's next on your list! i'll be waiting anxiously for it

Your reaction was so real and refreshing. I appreciate someone who can be true to what they are feeling. Thank you. Even though Ren has been doing his thing for some time now, I feel like the world has been introduced to him at a time when we collectively need his voice so badly. Whether it be to shed light onto the struggles of some or give voice to our own personal wounds, it feels like Ren's music gives us the permission we've all been secretly asking for to feel what we need to feel, express the truth we hold inside and experience life the way it was meant to be experienced. I for one am so grateful for finding him when I did...

Dude, I love the way you are completely open to the music. My first reaction to this was exactly the same... albeit without a camera on me ; ) Ren and Chinchilla also have _"How to be me"_ ...which you really need to hear. I think I mentioned the essential context for this song elsewhere, but here it is again, just in case : Rens friend committed suicide from a bridge one night. This duet is sung live, at night, on that bridge - and is obviously a deeply personal, raw and honest song about personal grief - and a sublimely beautiful and fitting tribute to his lost friend. I've already subscribed to you today, but after seeing this, I wish I could sub twice ; ) Thank you so much for sharing your authentic self - it is, without doubt, the greatest gift you could ever give, and I'm sure I speak for all your subs when I say we're all deeply appreciative.

Thank you for your honest, heartfelt reaction. "Chalk Outlines" touches me deeply no matter how many times I watch this video or hear this song. Ren has been able to express through his songs what I have been unsuccessfully trying to communicate to others regarding my mental, emotional, and physical struggles. I would recommend you also check out Ren's other collaboration with Chinchilla, the "How to Be Me" live version, as well as their busking sessions in Brighton, performing “Sexual Healing” (Marvin Gaye cover) and “One Dance / Drunk in love” (Drake/Beyoncé cover). As for "Chalk Outlines," it is one of my favorite songs right now; it is beautiful yet sad. The studio version is also incredible. However, in my personal opinion, it does not come close to the live version. This performance is so much more raw, emotional, and visceral, and Chinchilla's performance here elevates the song to a whole new plain. I wish the live version would be available on Spotify. Someone (Obj Owl @JoesTheBestInTheWorl) shared his interpretation, I think fittingly so, “The sound of the folding chair opening up fills the empty space with echoes emanating from the walls and then diminishes. Ren uses this to compose the song, with Chalk Outlines representing the empty space that he feels within. Chinchilla, who also emerges from the walls and echos Ren throughout and suitably for an echo, has the last word, leaving a dark empty space. It's dark on the gallows.” Given Ren's medical history, I interpret this song to address mental illness diagnoses, and prescription psychotropics, which leave you emotionally dead (hence, the chalk outlines around your dead self). I can attest to the reality of this; for over 15 years, I was prescribed a cocktail of max doses of psychotropics, including Sertraline, until I decided to carefully wean myself off all medications in 2014. The side effects of the drugs were too many and too severe, left me an emotional zombie, and the benefits were negligible. I rather feel pain than nothing at all. Looking forward to more Ren reactions from you. God bless.

I’m bipolar and I’ve been on practically every medication there is to assuage my symptoms but they only get worse as I age. This song struck me right in the heart and watching your reaction I see it did yours as well. And hopefully more people will discover Ren because he is not only a genius he is an artist. So many people identify with Ren and he deserves recognition. Thank you for your heartfelt reaction. Also thank you for not pausing after every couple of lines like some of the other reaction channels. In my opinion they lose the emotion of the song when they pause frequently to discuss them. And because his songs are live it’s like talking while at a stadium concert. I’m so glad you enjoyed Chalk Outlines.

I liked your comment that simple actions of putting fingers on a guitar and making some simple broken chords creates an experience. This is so, some artists create experiences in peoples minds, some don't and it's not really about production or ambition or recording budget yada yada yada. They either do it or not. And I'm in awe how much of an experience Ren creates. Been a while, honestly

In concert with the silence and space, the opening lyrics slay me, "I'm still here in this bed that I crawled in / I hope that I'm someone else in the morning." It took your everything to get to bed - you had to crawl - but there's no rest, just a deep desire to have a different life, a different mind, perhaps a different body. Great reaction. That empathetic nature you have there enables you to have insight about nuances not ordinarily caught by the casual ear or eye. I get that it can be annoying sometimes to not be able to control your emotions all the time, but, I definitely remember that a wise man I encountered recently named Ren said: "the more rigid I became the harder it got". (He really is a "genius" in my humble opinion) Oh and don't be apologetic for something that comes to you as natural as breathing. I remember being scolded as a child for being "too loud and too hyper" around my elders, you know that time when children were allowed to be seen and not heard, except for when I was at home in my space, My Mother,, God love her,, probably allowed me too much freedom as a child, It was a rough adjustment to public school let me tell you!😂 But, I digress, I look forward to more reactions from you to Ren, the other amazing new talent discovered through him, and all the dynamic new talent yet to be discovered.✌

Hey Brandon, never saw you that emotional, thanks for opening up in front of us, beautiful reaction to a musical and lyrical masterpiece! I enjoyed reading your video description as well and appreciate the effort and research you put into that, even learned something new about Chinchilla (now I'm curios to discover her collab(s) with 'NOEP....) I had already checked some of the videos on her channel after I'd discovered her via Ren, and she has some really great stuff on her own as well, I can recommend e.g. "Fingers" which you mentioned in your description, for a reaction choose the live version (live for HUNGER TV)... She really deserves more views and subs, especially now as Ren is blowing up and she's an important part of that, Chalk Outlines and How To Be Me (looking forward to your reaction! And they have more performances together, e.g. a great sensual cover of Marvin Gaye's immortal classic "Sexual Healing" (on her channel), live busking on the streets... And Ren has so much more to offer for you, but you already have got enough suggestions as you said, so I'll leave it with Chinchilla (x Ren)... But as I'm here already let me use the opportunity to suggest to you another masterpiece: Isyana Sarasvati released a new video today for her song "My Mystery" and it's a breathtaking journey, musically and visually... If you're quick you might be among the first reactors to feature this epic video... - You did at least one reaction to her, but that was quite a while ago, so I hope you're in the mood to discover another deep one whenever you feel you need a break from Ren and Chinchilla... @@tnae you're welcome! Really appreciate the time you took to answer and am looking forward to your reactions to come ... really love the eye and ear you have for artistic authenticity ... not as actual reaction requests (as long as Isyana is still pending...) but just to let you know: Other artists with whom you can always make me happy are: Angelina Jordan, Haley Reinhart and Gigi de Lana - Have you heard Gigi's cover of Sam Smith's "Unholy"? - Way better than the original for me, and according to all the reactors I've watched on that one (about 3 godzillions...) an absolute masterpiece of delivery... - so this is NOT a reaction request on my part, just a hint for a friend, I don't mind if you watch it privately, and if you react to that one you'll do it for yourself... You were spot on at the beginning btw and the fact that you felt that connection so fast make me think you might have some personal experience with this kind of thing as well. As do i. I can't get through this song without bursting into tears, it cuts right into the core of my soul. Yeah there is no way she would be able to embody that performance like that without personal experience. It rings through in everything she does from body language to her voice, just as it does with REN. And you can see it in their eyes when they are up close to each other, the level of understanding that goes on between those eyes are so intense. You can fake a lot of things but you cant fake things that goes so deep into a persons soul like this.

I Loved your Reaction to this Song, I too had the same emotions when I first heard it and teared up, I thought it was a masterpiece and still do, but then I watched, Ren X Chinchilla How to be me (Live), and I was completely blown away that song and performance with the back story and emotion in it is mind blowing

Another great reaction. My current thinking about Ren is that he produces art that touches one’s soul. I am truly stuck in the Ren (and reactions to Ren) rabbit hole.

Love your videos man...just sub'd. I can tell Ren hits you just as he hits me. I just discovered Ren a few weeks ago and for some reason he taps into something that makes me feel....something...anything again. I'm in my 60's and have struggled for years and there is something so real and vulnerable about them and about him in particular that it just has overwhelmed me. Even though I am not from the rap generation many of his rap songs touch me in the same way. The next one from them is "how to be me (live)", but you can't really go wrong with any of them. Freckled Angels, Sick Boi, Crutch (w-bibi)...of those sick boi would come last but they are all amazing.

I love your reactions to Ren, this one in particular, I can see it really hit you hard. maybe I'm wired wrong, but I love seeing a professional performance coach lose objectivity for a moment due to the emotion of a performance.... You still pulled it back and gave a spot on analysis, but I still love seeing the emotion overwhelm you as it has done to me many times watching Ren. much love brother, youve got a new sub

Ren & Chinchilla, both I individually & together are my favorite rabbit hole. Ren's story & his music gives me hope that I too can get through what I'm going through. While Chinchilla gives me the feeling of empowerment, that, "I CAN DO THIS!" I have 2 playlists that I listen to regularly. One is Ren & Chinchilla, all their songs I could find on Amazon Music & the other is just Chinchilla. I have to censor what I listen to because some music affects me in a somewhat negative way, meaning I get stuck in my own head by listening to certain music. However, with Ren & Chinchilla I literally listen to them on repeat! Best artists I've come across EVER!!!! Thank you for reacting to this & all Ren & Chinchilla videos you've done & will do. And never apologize for feeling anything or even crying. It's natural for humans to have emotions. And they have a way of invoking those emotions in every way possible. Keep up the amazing work! Loving the videos! Subbed just because you reacted to Ren & Chinchilla! ❤❤❤
