I absolutely love this. I find it so fascinating to hear Ric's take on this. When I was watching this live I could not have imagined in a million years hearing Flair's take on the non-kayfabe things going on. Also, my wife bugged Ric's agent and got her to have Ric call me on my 40th b-day. He was at a South Carolina game and having a great time but took the time to call me. He talked to me for 10 minutes and it, as my wife says, was a gift that will never be topped. Three notes on the conversation... - I made sure I referred to him as "Ric", "Champ", and "Naych". - He told me at the end of the call "To be the man...well if you don't know the rest by the time you're 40 you'll never get it." I loved that. - I told him that I had sworn if I ever got to talk to him I would ask about the "Hat/Robe" angle with Blackjack Mulligan. It was ASTOUNDINGLY impactful and shocking for me and my friends. He talked about it a bit and said that of all the angles from the Crockett promotion that is the one he is asked about the most. It was amazing. Thanks for the great birthday gift, Naych.

So cool to watch this, as I remember Sting when he was in that 6 man tag match at Starrcade. I'd only just started NWA that year, our local channel started showing Worldwide, I think. Finally was able to go to a show at the old Philadelphia Civic Center with Sting and Luger against the Roadies.

I couldn’t even listen to the Flair podcasts with Madden after awhile. If he wasn’t just insufferably sucking up to Naitch (as much as we all love him the ass kissing Mark did was beyond annoying) he was trying to get himself over.

This was the match that got me into old school wrestling/Ric Flair. I grew up in the attitude era and was a WWF guy, but when I started watching NWA I was as hooked. Much prefer the southern style, especially this match, I was enthralled from start to finish unlike any match before.
@rustykuntz942 жыл бұрын
@@wolfcrewe7474 Agree and while I’m a New Yorker born and bred once I was introduced to JCP/NWA (WCW) I became a even bigger wrestling fan as a kid. All I knew in 1985/86/87 was WWF and loved it but after stumbling onto TBS sometime in mid to late 87 and saw Flair and Dusty, etc I was addicted. Watched both promotions back and forth into the Monday Wars era. I really haven’t paid much attention since the mid 2000s and def went out for good after the Benoit fiasco as he was one of my all Time favorites back then along with Sting and Bret Hart that just disillusioned me but will never get tired of re watching and talking about the old school years.
