once i told a therapist that i had the need to take care of something like a pet or a plant or someone else and she told me that i need to redirect that energy to myself, i never knew how to nurture myself but spending alone time getting to know myself has helped a lot 🥺 i appreciate people like you who portray being alone as something beautiful and necessary instead of acting like something’s missing 🤍

As an immigrant, I've spent over 11 years away from my fam. And the beginning was extremely lonely. making friends when you don't speak the language, and come from totally different cultures and backgrounds was rough. Yet this experience thought me how to be alone and love it. But before I learned this lesson, I got into a relationship for 4 years, and that was a huge mistake and then awakening. Once I broke up with the guy, I decided I'd take a year or more to really learn who I am and what I want. And honestly, that's been the best decision of my life. I’m just stopping by to say that if you’re feeling down on this Friday night.... turn on Netflix and start watching Arrested Development!! I was feeling really down tonight about a lot and especially how single I am. Came across this show and I’ve been cracking up for the last hour 😂 it will definitely put you in a good mood!

As on only child with little to no friends and no social skills.. Being quarantined alone was so hard and during the first wave I tried to hang on to this guy.. Oh boy.. Long story short It ended up really bad lol.. It is so funny that we keep looking for stuff that are right in front of us. Other can’t feel the holes within ourselves. No one should love me or treat me better than I do myself. Your relationship with yourself really set the tones for every other ones in your life and it takes time to fully discover and embrace every bit and every quirks. Thank you for sharing your experience with us 🙏🏿❤️

The idea that there is someone, somewhere, who has ups and downs in her life but is still able to be so resilient, sensitive and gives such insightful perspectives on life is really inspiring and helpful to me. In those days when I know that depression is about to come and hit me again, it is nice to know that I am not alone and choosing to love and care for my well-being is truly the best choice above all. I’ve been single for 20 years and really enjoy spending time with myself and at times I question whether getting into a relationship would ever make me lose this joy I have for spending time alone, because I’ve seen so many people lose the joys of spending time on their own once they got into a relationship and when it doesn’t work out, it makes them desperate to look for another relationship asap, putting them in this cyclical motion of being in a relationship in a way

Regarding "staying friends" with exes; After my (mostly abusive) 16 year marriage broke up, when people said, "it's too bad you couldn't have remained friends," my answer has ALWAYS been, "If he had ever been a true friend to me I would never have gotten divorced. A friend wouldn't have treated me like that. It just took me about 15 years to get healthy enough to end it." You are healthy enough already to know that. Good for you, Kelly!

Fellow only child here!! 😘 I chose to be single pretty much my entire teenage life! I liked guys, but didn't want to commit when I was so young. I really found myself at a young age and knew who I was. I had one boyfriend at 20 for 8 months. Shortly after that I met my current boyfriend, who I live with (but we casually dated for a year before anything official). We've been together 8 years 😭♥️ Being in a committed relationship (with the right person) is amazing. And being single is amazing. Life is what you make it y'all!

As a *part-time* asexual, I love this. I was thinking that soon enough you'll realize you can be fine with not being in a romantic relationship. Knowing how to be solitary is central to the art of loving. When we can be alone by ourselves (and actually enjoy it) we can be with others w/out using them as a means of finding happiness. Cheers to all my single ladies and gents! 😉🥂✨
