True, but there's one particular Toad that's actual name is Toad. At one point in one of the games, Peach refers to Toad, in such a way as if she is calling him by a proper name, not as his species name. That one Toad is always the same Toad who travels the world to bring you free items, should you need them. Toadsworth replaced him for awhile on that job though eventually.

That has to be a hard job for Peach if her subjects are constantly changing their identies -.- granted some prefer to constantly ID them selves as the same person all the time like Todasworth, Toadbert, Toadiko, Toadet, and Captain Toad. Nintendo you got some crazy ideas when it comes to how Mario's world works.

In Galaxy 2 I seem to remember Captain Toad stole his aircraft in that one...and it might not be the same Captain Toad, as his gear he claims to have found somewhere. Don't hold this as absolute fact yet. I'm just trying to remember from PBG's Playthrough of the game. I don't own the game myself I think. If anything, if we have it, it has to be on the Wii External Hard Drive that a friend of my brother had given to my family for a gift.

The Toads help Mario because they know if Mario doesn't succeed, they'll be ruled over by Bowser, and be forced to do his evil. At least, that's what they think. So they help Mario by setting up shops that sell items for free, and some of the braver ones actually join Mario in saving Peach. So yeah, I'd say the toads are pretty cool characters.
