I would geniunely love like a VibingLeaf-style retake of this with a bit less abruptness that makes it a little more clear what’s going on. Like, Mr. Krabs tells you stories that foreshadow the next level but slowly his wartime PTSD gets triggered and the workd changes to reflect his mental state. Like instead of a few normal levels followed by reliving Mr. Krabs’s biggest fears, it’s Mr. Krabs telling a story that slowly devolves into the horrors he witnessed during the war (which he was canonically in by the way, that was established in _Krusty Krab Training Video_ and was never elaborated on again). Like it starts off with a GBA game very losely based off of _The Flying Dutchman's Treasure Hunt_ but then slowly devolves into Mr. Krab’s severally scarred mind as he’s reminded of the pains and loses he’s endured. Like, the sulfer and the City of Heads and the ash and literally EVERY LEVEL AND BOSS (Aside from the Squidward one) after the shift is forshadowed, so why not tie it all together?

14:59 My take on the bad ending's meaning is that SpongeBob has unfortunately become the new vessel of the flesh entity using Squidward as it's previous one. The Effigy entry mentions an entity, presumedly worshipped by those who dwell the depths of the world, which the namely boss "shamefully" mimics in form. The hollow appearence of Squidward's body makes it resemble like he was unwilling (or willingly given his manic laughters) used as a container for this entity to reside in, and the last frame we see of SpongeBob is similary hollowed out. (and strinkingly close to the doppleganger we fight before Squidward) If this were the case, the "something better" mentioned in the ending would be a new eternal "friend", in the form of the eldrich horror hosted in his body. Grim stuff. Even more speculative, but it could also mean that (in universe) the golden spatulas have the power to repel this creature's influence, but ONLY if the seven of them are together. It could explain the extra phase in the good ending; the entity grows desperate as the relics block it's new vessel, and goes from simply latching on/sprouting from it's current one to completely asimilating it in order to gain more power, to no avail. Maybe i'm putting to much attention in a silly SpongeBob horror game, but is always fun to speculate!

Okay, I have a great theory for the bad ending. I think the red Spongebob we see is the REAL SpongeBob we play as, and the one we usually play as in the levels is just an illusion. He found eyes, in which that was what he wanted. Because he was eyeless. I believe there was some sort of cult in the game studio in which revolved around eyes, and eyes are considered the window to the soul.
