This video ironically makes you look both human, in your frustration and hopping straight back on the wall after you fall off (because my sessions are full of this), yet completely inhuman, sending and even flashing 8a after 8a back to back (I can only dream of a session like that lmao). Your stength and intensity are monstrous, a pleasure to watch so thank you

These videos inspire me so much. I'm 17 and I have been climbing since I was 10 but I've only truly wanted to improve within the last year and watching you do all these amazing things inspires me to one day be able to scrape the surface of your climbing ability. Seeing you get frustrated on the board and (I assume) being okay with that and being able to smile later on is just brilliant to see. Can't wait for my next session and your next video!

Psyched to hear it. I definitely get frustrated during training and climbing sessions - but for me it's part of the process and I'm only frustrated with myself. I also love the process at the same time. It does take effort and psyche to get better - but it's worth every bit of it. Try hard 👊

I'm super curious, if you never really put significant effort in the first 6ish years, how much did you end up improving (as in, before you started training/focusing on improvement)? As in what grades did you work up to, or maybe what are some strength benchmarks that you reached sort of "passively"? Good luck with training!
@ubbychubbs4238
@ubbychubbs4238 10 ай бұрын
@@fubbalo_ TLDR: After a 2 year long break due to moving and covid and a year and a half of climbing once a week I made it to a 7a+ lead indoors in 2023 and about 10-12 bodyweight pullups (with good form). I spent the first few years in the US until covid just climbing at my local gym twice a week (I think?) and I don't really know what kind of improvements I made because it was a different grading system than what is used in Ireland. I do remember some decent improvements of overall strength and mainly technique as that is what I liked about climbing. Then I moved to Ireland during covid and did virtually no climbing for about 2 years. I got back into it after a while and felt a massive decline in strength and I had put on some weight which didn't help. I think I started climbing 6a and maybe 6b routes (I'm not good with bouldering grades). I also naturally have a drive to improve at whatever I enjoy so perhaps my standard of low effort is a bit higher than some but probably not much within the context within climbing. Due to my lack of strength I mainly focused on technique and body position. This took me to a 7a+ lead route around early to mid 2023. All of this was indoors since I don't have people to go outside with and a lack of crash pads for bouldering was an issue. I never really measured my strength so the only think I can tell you is I could do about 10-12 bodyweight pullups. I have since built a home wall and I just got a hang board so I'll edit this to note what I was able to do on it (hangs, pull ups, etc.). I remained relatively weak until the home wall which now allows me to train more often and my max pull ups has reached 16 and near the end of last year I sent a 7b on lead on my third attempt. So strength wise I have not improved massively so the numbers shouldn't be way off what they were last year. The main difference in my climbing was technique as I spent ages watching people like Toby climb and taking note of how they positioned themselves and the differences between when they fell and when they didn't (can you tell I like technique?). Fin!

@@ubbychubbs4238 Sick! Having a home gym must be great, I'd imagine setting on it would be super fun. Thanks for the detailed response!
@ubbychubbs4238
@ubbychubbs4238 9 ай бұрын
@@fubbalo_ TLDR: I climbed 4-5 times a week (once in gym rest at home) for 3 months and managed two reps of 140% bodyweight pull-ups and almost flashing 7b+ (I actually haven't done a 7b+ yet but the 7bs have felt nowhere near my limit) The home wall is sick and I also finally got the hangboard up yesterday! I tried some two rep max pullups and I managed 140% of bodyweight (I weigh 61.1kg). I will be doing some other stuff to set a baseline of strength if you want to hear about it but it won't really be "beginner" strength. I've been climbing on the home wall a lot so I have been able to climb about 4-5 times a week depending on how I feel. My strength has increased a lot but idk how much. Before the home wall I was able to project the easiest climb on the second hardest boulder circuit in my gym over about two sessions. Now I am flashing 2 and getting one within 2-3 attempts then doing another 3 across 2 sessions. My biggest achievement, however, was being 2 moves away from flashing a 7b+ lead route (my foot slipped on a tiny no tex foot). I asked people if they thought if it was sandbagged and they all said it was a solid 7b+ so that's how far I've managed to go by only climbing (and very inconsistently doing some pulls ups and dead hangs on my flimsy doorway mounted pull-up bar). So this is all technically without training but being able to walk 3 seconds from my desk and start climbing whenever I want is a massive help.

Extremely nice Vid. Gives good psych for my next Kiltersesh. But for the next time; please film more upfront and not so much from the side, so you can see the moves better. Iam looking forward to more training vids:).
