I'm 57 and so wish I could bring back the days I and my mother would watch The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie, our two favorite shows to watch together. I will never tire of these shows. The Walton's, especially always seemed to give me a sense of belonging and peace, being a country girl at heart, growing up in Brooklyn, NY yet never, ever feeling at home there.

When I really want to escape from this crazy, news obsessed world, I love to watch The Waltons reruns. Their show was about real family values ....hard work, God, neighbors and friends, and more love than stuff! Imagine that ...

The Walton's to me has to be one of the best family program / shows of all time. We need more programs like this. They all made the show what it was. Take any character away and this show wouldn't have been the same. What this show portrayed most was a strong sense of values / morals with emphasis placed on family and truth all of which is missing from today's shows. Lastly the writter's of this show deserve recognition as well. Thanks for a great family program.

People need something that is solid and stays together like the Walton family sets that example. Many of us can only dream of having a family life like the Waltons. So that is why we love that show so much. We want to be able to step into our TV and become that life many of us do not have or ever did have. The Walton's have World popularity and is a show that we all need more than ever now and will Never be forgotten.

I am still enjoying watching re-runs of this wonderful show. The writing was superb and the casting perfect. I am not ashamed to say it's escapism for me. We live in a frightening and troubled world and it's just a joy to take time out for a while and have an hour with this family.

Our family was often referred to as 'The Waltons' by family/friends who lived in town or the city. We lived in a beautiful mountain area on a large farm with a lake had five kids (not 7) tons of animals hard working wonderful father strict mother. And we actually said "Good Night' to each other every night. We didn't have much money but rich in many other ways. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in such a way.

I was born in 1966 and started watching The Waltons at my grandparents in the early seventies. I kind of grew out of it of course growing up, but I come home to them every chance I get. I pray to the good Lord above to keep this show running on the Inspiration Channel, GMC and Hallmark channel. I love this family like they were my own. I learn a lot about being a mother and a wife from Olivia and am reminded of my inner childhood from all the children. Love grandma, grandpa and John Sr. LOVE IT!

Muessem this past April. And got to see the real home of Earl Hamner. It was so neat to be able to see the different sets from the show set up..as well as pictures of the cast and the real family members they played. It was such a treat to be able to be that close to a part of the the show.

I have been watching the Waltons for some 47 years now, and the reruns still make my soul feel centered. Never have I witnessed characters so lovingly created and so magnificently portrayed! I recently toured the restored Hamner house in Schuyler, VA---it is wonderful; a real century-old time capsule, and the docent there is a fabulous repository of information about the series, the actors, and the Hamners, themselves. She is the embodiment of hospitality and welcoming. (Just like a "real member" of one of the families!) There were no "minor" characters on this series; they were all masterfully created and portrayed. John and Olivia, the kids, Grandma and Grandpa, Ike and Cora Beth, the Fosters, each and every character has left an indelible mark on my heart! They are part of my "memory" as long as I live. I love Earl Hamner for creating this wondrous show. If there had never been another series on TV, this show, alone, would have justified the existence of the medium. God bless you, Waltons & Hamners!
@kayedeedid
@kayedeedid 5 жыл бұрын
agreed. I know that the actors are just portraying a part and the parts were only slightly based on real life--no, Earl's mother did not have polio and tuberculosis, he was actually born in the 20s, not during WWI, and there were 8 kids not 7, but I do believe that the show allowed the kids to have all dimensions. They were good, bad, in between, made mistakes, learned, sometimes they made the same mistake more than once. What's even better is that the cast members all treat each other as if they really were siblings. Well, they spent the better parts of their childhoods with each other probably more than their real siblings so I guess it's only right.
@davesiler4064

yes, Ms. DeHart, there were a few discrepancies, but the two families existed 30-40 years apart---poetic license. But I strongly believe that this was the greatest, highest quality series in the history of television. Whatever minor discrepancies may have existed, this series was a perfect example of what TV could have been--not Mod Squad or Flip Wilson. The original house, BTW is a wonderful restoration!

The Walton's started out as the 1971 Christmas movie called the Homecoming, I always enjoyed watching it, my late parents, my brothers & myself watched the series that was on CBS on Sunday nights, in the early 1980's it was on Fridays on CBS. Television was a lot better than what it is today.

My parents were about the ages of the younger Walton kids and my grandparents were roughly the ages of John and Olivia. So they identified with those characters. They remembered many of the major events of those times as they were written into Waltons episodes.

The waltons left the BEST television legacy with a multigenerational imprint of love on those of us fortunate enough to grow up with them. Setting an unwavering standard of values to lean on as an example. Spencers' mountain by Earl Hamner imortalizes this era...his writtings and this show are one in the same, his recent passing ( 2017) is a reminder of the simpler, more piognant time in America's infancy.

One of my favorite shows of all time. I used to watch reruns on KZbin, then the copywriters got into a pissing match. No more Waltons on KZbin. I really miss them. like so many other people who have commented, The Waltons basically raised me. I lived in a home with my grandparents, mother and uncle until he got married when I was 4 so I could connect with the multi-generational living. I vividly remember hearing that Will Geer had died and was just devastated because it was like losing my own grandfather even though he was still alive. In her later years my grandmother strongly resembled Ellen Corby after she had her stroke and it's very hard for me to watch the episodes without the grandparents. Richard Thomas left the series and I missed him but it was natural for him as a young man to leave the area. But when the grandparents died/became only cameos the show lost most of its appeal to me. I still watch it. I own the first 5 seasons on Amazon Prime and the others are available.

Joanie mallen. I just spewed coffee all over my desktop screen when I read your comment. Seriously? Do not compare 1970's TV content to todays. There is no comparison. With the reality shows and real time tv, you can't 'turn the dial' without coming upon such crap. Between the kartrashians, housewives and zombies, quality tv shows are a fading memory. As Cami stated at 3:10 life was very different in the '70's. We had family values would curl up together to watch such shows. Family time. That is not done today. I very rarely watch today's tv shows. Nothing worth watching.

I grew up in 50 60 70, they’re was 12 of kids, I fell in love with the Walton family the first show. We didn’t have running water in our house the girls slept 3 in a bed, so did the boys, we kept a very clean house. Beds made before you come down stairs. Lived on a ranch so always had cores to do. I liked working outside so I got to help wit the milking feeding chickens. My favorite was sleeping outside under the stars in the summer. We kids were always close growing up, but not so much anymore. I still watch the Walton’s when it’s on.

Ah, Thursday nights growing up in the 70's (about Elizabeth's age). To me this show resonated so much with us of that era was that while they were going through the Depression, we really were in a very sucky recession, inflation, Watergate, Nixon's impeachment. My dad was laid off from '70-'74, and we were eating USDA cornmeal, corn syrup, and cheese. Blech. Pick one toy from "Santa", etc. We needed that feel good fix. The Waltons looked rich to me with all that good food!

And I must say, it really does make my day watching the episodes because for me, its like a new show and but has the classic family feeling to it. Man to be born on those days (70s -80s) would be a lot better than now. TV these days is just absolute garbage compared to The Waltons :)

I fackin' love the waltons. I'm only 27 years old and I remember my Mum watching the repeats on telly when I was a kid and I used to hate it. Only recently have I given it a second chance and it's quickly becoming one of my favourite programs.

charlottesmom I started checking the seasons out from the library and I swear I paid at least 100.00 in fines for not returning them on time!! I quit watching in the middle of season 5 so I'm checking to see if I can find them actually free online somewhere (laughs)

Shows like this are the reason I watched TV so much when I was a kid. Shows today are the opposite of shows like this. I pay a lot of money to get channels that have shows like this. I try to find new showsI like andI have found a few but all the shows that have these kind of values get cancelled. We live in a new age now where sex and violence seem to rule the TV. It's a sober reminder to the times we live in. When I was a kid we didn't have to lock our doors at night and everyone in the neighborhood would sit on their porches or front steps and everyone knew everyone. We would get together at different peoples houses and drink Lemonade or iced tea and talk Nice to each other. We were an all white neighborhood until us kids were about 7 and an African American and a Latino family moved in and we all greeted them with open arms. They were not expecting that. They became part of the neighborhood and two Asian families moved in and the same thing. So more families of different backgrounds moved in because they heard what a caring people we were. We had more to talk about. Where they grew up and their traditions that were not that much different from ours except the Food! We all took turns making dinners and we had barbecues and ate all kinds of foods and they all had kids and we all played and went to school together . One of my best friends in grammar school was From Vietnam. His name was John with a g. And Spanish friends and African Americans. It was a time of just not caring about someone's skin color or backgrounds but rather embracing them and being a close neighborhood and one big family.not like today where neighbors don't want to know each other and the racism and violence and drugs and everything else. We need to go back to those times or we are going to not exist anymore! Peace my brothers and sisters.. and love

Watched it half a world away on my black and white 8 inch TV in the 70s and not understanding 80% of what they were saying. Guess I was trying to have such a feel-good family. Love the theme song.

👩‍💻I love this show. I was from a big family and knew about hand me downs and a wonderful grandpa and grandma I saw every morning and afternoon coming to and going home from school. Having crushes unrequited and being the middle child always to old or always too young. Living in an isolated place and everyone knowing who I was and they knew my parents. We didn't have much, and our food was simple. But I could run and play, pick apricots, and go to the library and dream of a bigger and better life. I was a teenager when this show was on TV, and I identified with so much of the growing up feelings and it was a safe place to go and feel loved and how I wanted my own future family to be. Thanks, Walton's. I binge watch you all the time. I really enjoy the Easter special where John Boy's wife has twins. 🙋‍♀️😘😳🤗🥰🇺🇲🇬🇧

brown eyes We were from a very large family, one pair of good shoes for school and one pair of play shoes....we never even noticed because we had so much love inside our home and food on the table and a roof over our heads and two parents who loved us...a mother and a father....and our memories will live forever......all of us watched this show together...now, my mother watches it and loves it...she was too busy to watch tv, cooking, cleaning, laundry and raising 5 kids when it was on in the 1970's, so it's a treat to share it with her now when she's 84 years young....
