You convinced me to get one of these. I got it❗️ This is a FANTASTIC radio. Reception on AM(MW) is really excellent. A great DXer. Short Wave is also excellent, though tuning takes a bit of patience. FM is also excellent, though I did noticed a slight recurring image from 1 station, but not enough to impede listing. It seems well made. Better than most radios. And it’s NOT made in China. ( rather: Indonesia). It has good sound. This is that great quality that made Panasonic. And again, reception is fantastic on this. It’s an excellent DXer. $50.oo may seem a bit stiff, but the reception and quality makes it worth it, especially if you favor Analog. This is NOT a DSP radio❗️ Thanks Todderbert❗️ 📻😁

I like this radio because the ferrite antenna is also active on shortwave; it's almost as good on shortwave as it is on standard AM. The ferrite bar is sensitive to the magnetic signal, so it makes reception easier around electrical interference.

Tested my Panasonic RF-562DD2 DSP against a Sony ICF-19 DSP, which is an incredible radio for AM. Guess what? The Panasonic holds a weak signal much longer and picks the signal up much faster during fading. This is a HOT AM receiver! Radiojayallen rates the Sony 3 1/2 out of five stars. The Panasonic is a 3 3/4 and tunes easier than the Sony. The shortwave and FM perform very well too and the speaker is perfect for AM and isn`t bad on music. Nice and loud. This is a very good radio!

I replaced the FM filter with a 150 kHz unit and I can now DX FM; as much DX as FM allows (FM is usually line of sight).
@Henrydrn16 жыл бұрын
It's simple if you can use a soldering iron. Most radios have ceramic 280kHz filters. This allows easier and less expensive manufacturing. You just buy the 150kHz filter and use it in place of the original wider filter. You can make it even more selective with a 110kHz filter but I only had 150kHz units. You should know that narrower filters makes tuning a little more "touchy," you get used to tuning a little more carefully; but it's still much easier than tuning the shortwave band. I used a 150kHz Murata filter, you can look on line to see how they look. They resemble a ceramic capacitor, but have three pins instead of two. The filters should be connected the same way as the old one. One pin is input, one is ground and the other output; the filters have a dot to help identify the pins. Before disassembling the radio, set the dial to its lowest position (zero on the scale), this makes sure the dial and radio stay aligned when you put it back together. There's only one filter to replace, the rest is handled by I.F. transformers. You may hear stations that you didn't hear before due to improved selectivity.
@Henrydrn16 жыл бұрын
The standard frequency is 10.7MHz, but the BANDWIDTH is usually wide for FM signals. In the United States the bandwidth is +-75kHz or 150kHz total for a "regular" FM station. This allows stereo signals with a little room to spare while minimizing adjacent channel interference. You can get different I.F. bandwidths; typical values for FM are: 280kHz, 230kHz, 180kHz, 150kHz and 110kHz. There are narrower filters but these are less common. 280kHz is very wide and very common, 110kHz is very narrow, but works with radios that don't have stereo reception. I have used Murata filters with excellent results.

The double DD model is DSP, SW band starts at 6 mhz. Best of all surface mounted components. Impossible to repair. Also much higher current drain. My RF-562D is powered by a salvaged lithium ion 3.7 volt from a vape device. It had a p.c. board for charging with a 5 volt wall wart. To drop the voltage to 3 volts I used two silicon diodes in series. New mod. Bought on eBay a small solar panel to charge the battery. Works very good. All the radio I need for local F.M. stations. M.W. at night, and most international S.W. stations. Never needs batteries, just find more vape devices on the street. Excellent videos, keep up the good work!

I saw your review on amazon. I agree the price of 50$ is a little steep for this radio. On top I dont like how the Big Speaker phrase is written: it looks like cheap and childish (bright green colour). It would be a bonus to have Short Wawe as well on top of AM/FM but as far as I know that is dying out. I went instead for the Panasonic RF-2400D (I actually have 2 of them) which are very nice looking and IMO quality built. That one has very good reception but tends to "wander" the tuning sometimes. Maybe the radio stations change emitter strength. The RF-2400D has an metal grid speaker protector which is a bonus as well. So I agree this RF-562D should have all metal stainless steel accents for the money (grid, knobs and switches) - in that case the 50$ would be justified. The case this radio comes in is a plus as well and I wished the RF-2400D came with one as well. Since it didnt, I plant to make one from genuine leather - just to cover it in case it falls down or gets bumped. I remember my fathers radios had allways an case, which was a very nice thing since a radio was considered an investment and was ment to last a lifetime. Amazon has gotten lately often way more expensive than eBay on electronics but still is the best deal at the moment. I wonder how many SW comes through since I used to listening to Deutsche Welle on radio in the 1990's till they stopped broadcasting. Then came the internet and I left the whole radio thing aside. I wonder how many SW bands are still broadcasting (I am located in the southern part of the American hemisphere). It would make sense to broadcast on SW the gospel since governements can hardly control people to listening to foreign radio stations. At least to censor radio listening is way harder as to censor internet use. There could be a come back for SW if democracy and freedom is more and more threathened. Or AM has to get a way stronger output.

The 10K views speaks for itself. It's an intriguing retro looking radio. It's big. The case looks cool too, although not like the old leather cases that really fit like gloves. The AM band is disappointing for not having included the ext'd range up to 1710 kHz. As for headphones, I think it's monaural (as is Panasonic's other very popular big speaker portable--what), so you'll need an adaptor to get mono sound from the jack into both ears. Otherwise a nice radio with simple controls, impressive receptivity: shortwave pulled in plenty without scans; AM got far away stations. There seemed to be alot of static between stations, though; maybe that can't be helped with analog tuning. Thanks for vid; still wondering what Todderbert radio is and how you do that.

Ali Moh Thanks for the tip...It's so frustrating that Sony, Panasonic, and other major electronics companies have abandoned producing high quality portable AM and SW radios. I really miss the Panasonic RF-B65, Sony ICF-SW55, ect....the Chinese models are decent but don't have nearly the same outstanding performance and quality, durability that the Japanese units did. The last of a generation the Sony ICF-SW7600GR (Made in Japan) is still able to hold it's own when it comes to reception against the most recent models offered by Tecsun, and Sangean.

watershed44 You are right, the Japanese still shining.

Ali Moh What's puzzling is that there is STILL a significant market for high quality small electronics like these portable radios, finally in Japan at least for the Japanese market they are addressing that with some good quality items that recall the 70s-mid-90s. I hope that grows to include the US and other markets too. The ICF-EX5 MKII is one of those throw backs to better days. It's essentially the same radio that Sony started producing in 1987 and you can still buy it new today!

To each their own. I don't like it. No handle, small speaker, and no tone control.
@todderbert6 жыл бұрын
"Big Speaker" ...I know, its dink. TBH, I like the tone of this one...so that is not lost on me. No real handle I could see being an issue...though it has a cool looking case, and that vinyl strap you could use in a pinch. Its a great attempt at making a retro styled classic with modern plastics..with that said it's not for everyone..and why I pitched the 9700DX at the end...same cost, and you get so much more...this is a nice shelf talker for sure :)

Rf 5270 is better than this but this 562 looks good because it resembles an aircon.

Made in Indonesia for Asian market. But South Asians won't like it as much as Sony or Philips. For the signal though clear the tone is too metallic.
