The O.G. of psychological analysis, Dr. G! Thank you! You said everything that caught my attention. Especially rubbing his leg as a set up for the event. He didn't have a leg cramp, purposely steering between the poles to go into the water, taking that route. They went there the day before because he was scoping it out to see what he could do. Then he got the layout and mental picture in his head so the next night he could just make his turn and go barreling down the road to his mark between the poles and into the water. He prob intended for his wife to survive and the kids to drown and she would corroborate the leg cramp and having to pull his foot off the gas and he fig it would be ruled a tragic accident and he and his wife would live happily ( in his mind ) ever after, just the two of them. That's exactly what happened too. Except that the police didn't buy his story. What surprises me is the fact that the wife knew that he had told police he intentionally accelerated quickly and was going to slam on the brakes at the last minute to scare her but she still testified on his behalf. I mean, doing that would have terrified the children. Plus, jarring them around like that. They could have been badly hurt and who the heck tries to terrify their wife that their car is gonna wreck with their babies inside. He's twisted! You can see the b.s. in that story. Conveniently, at the time he decides to terrify her, with the brakes being an integral part of the scare, they just happen to not work and simultaneously the accelerator sticks. How can she not see that he premeditated the murder of their children. Clearly I do agree with you Dr. G. I feel that he is guilty of premeditated first degree murder beyond a reasonable doubt. Thx Dr. Grande! ❤ Oh, one last thing... Did either one of them even attempt to save any of their children at all?? Just asking because they both lived and between the two of them they couldn't get even one of their children out? Where were they when police got to the scene because you couldn't force me out of the water if my babies were trapped in a sinking car. Especially without emergency crews there yet trying to help. Just wondering.
@amandachase7691 Жыл бұрын
I always wondered that too. I remember this being on the news when it happened. I was 12. Even then I thought why didn't they each grab a child by the arm. I wouldn't swim to the top without my kids. In a reenactment of the crime they said the baby Emily was sitting in the front in her car seat between both parents. How do you not save one child between two adults. Then they swam to the top and were rescued by a boat and just hugged each other. I would have been screaming that my babies are down there and trying to get to them.

I get almost debilitating cramps in my legs, on & off for over a decade. So bad that it takes my breath away, it can take a long time for it to subside & sometimes they're so intense that my muscles are sore for days afterwards. When I was pregnant, the leg cramps would be so bad that my ex would have to yard me off the bed by my leg just to help my stand up fast enough to try to walk it off. With all that said, even when I get leg cramps while driving, I have never ever had it impair my driving. I also have a narcissistic mother who used to regularly threaten to crash the van she was driving into a wall or barrier while we were passengers. Perks of driving with a manual transmission: you could technically still end up in a river, but it would be much more difficult to accomplish. Plus the driver could not accelerate indefinitely without clutching and shifting gears.

Thank you for another infotaining presentation. You manage to use humor in it's right place, even though it was a tragic event. What about the wordplay? I hope you still do that. Being a poet and general word-nerd, I enjoy your alliteration. Thanks again from New Brunswick, Canada.🌵

I think it's also possible that he got a leg cramp that may have caused him to stomp the accelerator momentarily, at which time he realized he could grab the opportunity to rid himself of some of his baggage so he followed through, thinking that he could expand the leg cramp-accelerator story to explain the entire event. And, get off. Or, maybe, as bizarre as it was, there was a confluence of improbable events that became a tragedy. Who knows!

Just wanted to add comment below. When the pedal stuck the car went full throttle. It took me about a quarter mile to get it under control & shut down. I was white as a sheet when i walked in & told my dad what happened.

I had an experience with an 2002 Nissan Altima. I did have the accelerator get stuck to the floor for a few moments and had to push the brake with both feet for the car to stop. That was awfully scary. It only happened one time thank god.

I do not drive, but when I did I used to always check the amount of space to the right of the gas pedal in case my leg locked up. Any person that gets severe leg cramps knows what happened in this case. Severe leg cramps are not little 'charlie horse cramps. Your leg becomes totally locked and you get a very strong awareness of the locked muscle, not really pain but intense awareness, which supersedes anything else that might be on your mind. My opinion is that it has something to do with calcium, but whatever it is the locked muscles are easily reproducible and observable which should be tested with this individual. Give him a lot of calcium for one week, then no calcium the next week, and he will spend at least a few days incapacitated. Edit to add A funny story. Years ago I was driving a cab. At some point another driver drove up beside my cab and said 'call the police, you tripped an alarm' or something like that. The cab had an alarm system that was triggered by a small button to the right of the gas pedal. When I had straightened my leg a short while before I moved my right leg to the right of the pedal and tripped the alarm. The company I leased the can from never told me about the alarm but that incident surely generated some paperwork around roughly the late 90s or early 2000s. In fact if you go through the records of cab companies that have that kind of alarm you will probably find there are a number of people with that problem. I know exactly how he moved after his leg locked up, he moved his backside up and tried to straighten his leg, but if he was not used to that issue he would have had to almost stand up to get his foot off the gas. And there is a sort of panicky sensation that prevents a person from bending/contracting the leg so that is not an easy option regardless what people think. One more edit Dr Grande recites items from the interrogation without providing the actual video of the interrogation. I'm sure Dr Grande understands his mistake but it should be pointed out for others. A person can watch the Melissa Lucio interrogation, for example, which is on KZbin, or study any of thousands of other similar ones which are described by people present or audio recorded. Police generally avoid video taping interrogations for just that reason since if you don't let people see how you get the suspect to say something you can pretty much get anybody to confess to anything. Brown v. Mississippi, (1936) made getting confessions by torture illegal in the U.S. but there are many other psychological techniques, such as the Reid technique, which reliably get confessions regardless of guilt or innocence.

I always hear stories like this, or about house fires where the adults get out, but the children don't. I don't know if it's the mother in me, but if my children didn't survive, would I want to? I don’t think he mentioned it, but did anybody try to go back for the children? I don’t want to blame the wife, but if my husband drove us into the river, I'm not sure I would be as forgiving.

Hi Dr. grande. This is a different subject comment. I’d love to hear your analysis of Big and Little Edie …the cousin and aunt of Jackie Kennedy. They were the subjects in the documentary ‘ Grey Gardens’. It astounded me to learn about them…as they went from privilege and wealth to poverty and a home that deteriorated all around them. I’m curious whether they had personality disorders and why they were unable to help themselves more. They also seemed to have been trapped in a fantasy world of ‘what if’s’. Thank you

Right where he drove his family into the Detroit River me and a friend were sitting in that very spot about 45 minutes before he did it, throwing rocks into the Detroit river. Soon as we heard this happened, my friend, and I were both in total shock because we could have a very easily been sitting there when he come barreling through. I was raised in the town of Wyandotte where this happened. And it absolutely rocked our little town, because nothing like this happens there. The barrier that he went through to hit the water was in all honesty insane. When you went down Eureka, the only thing that stopped you from driving into the Detroit river, and what he actually blasted through wasn’t any kind of official guard rails. It was three railroad ties Buried down in the dirt, I don’t know how many feet deep, but the three railroad ties stood about 3 feet out of the ground. If you know anything about railroad ties, they are just planks of wood about a half a foot all the way around. Not strong at all, and if you stood there and kicked long enough and we’re strong enough I’m sure you could break one in half. Three of those about 2 feet apart is what was supposed to “Stop” someone from driving into the Detroit river. He didn’t drive between them as you stated in your video, because they weren’t far enough apart. He completely blasted right through them. Most people thought he was guilty from the next day after it happened. But what really hurt him and his wife was a couple days later they agreed to do a live interview on the news, and clearly they were stoned on something, whether it be prescription drugs, or illegal drugs I don’t know because I was only 13. But it was clear to see they were on something, and that killed them with the public. Wyandotte didn’t really have a dive team as is mentioned in a lot of these videos. Mostly when it happened it was in uniform police officers diving into the river and swimming down and trying to get these kids out. we are a small towel, so we all know who the cops were that bravely dived down. It really affected a lot of them for the rest of their careers.
