True. The family law bar is the only winner in a divorce, though -- since the Gates' kids are all over 18 -- at least the painful issues of custody & parenting time are not going to be litigated. I tried my hand at family law when I first entered private practice: Even telling a client that s/he will likely spend a decade in prison is preferable to explaining to a client that his/her time with the children will be limited.

@@LamLawIndy My father worked as a court appointed mediator in family court mediation and often suggested that certain divorce attorneys that frequently came through his offices would purposely undermine mediation because it resulted in more billable hours. He would take me to work when I didn't have school sometimes, and I remember he was talking about one lawyer to another person in his department, when a judge who had overheard the conversation stuck his head in the door and said he thought another attorney whom he was known to clash with in court was really working with him so they both could bill more hours. Could they be disbarred over ethics for that? I know it'd be hard to prove, they'd just say they were representing their clients best interests. Would the The Bar even care?

Diana was young and naive . The woman who married Gates knew before she married him that he was going to keep seeing his girlfriend . She obviously married him for his money imo. We’re all told that money doesn’t buy happiness but I don’t see the rich giving away their money to be happy! In fact they just look for opportunities just to make more money. Money gives you the freedom to live your life as you want . Eg If you want to be an artist , you can , you don’t have to worry about the bills . If you want to travel you can. Phoebe, Bill and Melinda's youngest child turned 18 in September 2020. My guess is at that time Melinda went to Bill and started working out the contract for their divorce. Once Phoebe turned 18, there were no custody issues so it made sense to wait until that time. After the specifics of their divorce were worked out (which would take a number of months or even a year because of their immense assets plus no pre-nup) they officially filed for divorce. Realistically speaking, I'm sure the marriage has been over for a long time. This is all conjecture on my part, but it makes sense. These situations are all about negotiation. People divorce and remarry at all stages of life. I met a fellow several months back who found new love again at age 90 and couldn’t be happier. I would think it would be a lonelier existence continuing life with a partner one has grown apart from, perhaps married for the wrong reasons or any number of scenarios. I think the pandemic woke a lot of people up to the fact that life is too short to feel bound to the wrong person for them, across all age groups and income levels. People have been shaken out of complacency and are looking at their lives with new eyes and new mindsets, and as a result a huge shift is happening. We will see many more of these announcements in the coming months, whether it’s celebrities or the nice couple down the street in your neighborhood that no one would ever imagine would split up. You don't mention the narcissist possibility. I am going through a grey divorce right now, realizing there was never an intimate connection. Long term marriage, childhood sweethearts. I call it gaslighting myself into the fairy tale...
@Zarathustran3 жыл бұрын
I must’ve inferred that but I thought it was understood. I guess it’s possible others have not drawn the same conclusion about Gates over the years but also seems like despite the disclaimers being the topic of one of Dr. Grande’s videos all but cinches that very strong possibility. Gaslighting is the main reckless purpose of fairytales... they pretend to help children deal with dark mature topics, but offering magical sugarcoated constructs around dark and mature topics nobody’s asked or is otherwise thinking about (or grossly oversimplified ones when they are asked) creates infantilizing preconceptions for later meeting dark topics to which being unprepared would at least be the rational better preparation. Men do have it similarly but I think culturally at least in the west there is some better shedding of that for those with responsible somewhat present and functional fathers. Like I don’t know how checked out a person has to be to think it was a good idea to teach little girls nothing about their va-jay-jay’s and send them into marriage believing any guy asking must be Prince Charming.

She made her choice to stay for 27 years and 3 kids despite all this gaslighting and narcissism. Look at trump and melania she knew what she was getting into from the start but choose to marry him anyway despite his rep.

@@worldview730 don't presume to know people's motivation for entering a disfunctional marriage with a psychopathic narcissist. They're notorious for love bombing people to get their love and loyalty then turn into the person's worst nightmare while always promising to change. These marriages can unfortunately go on for a long time until they enter the discard phase which is regarded in psychology circles as the worst form of emotional abuse. It's not a woman's fault for being hopeful.

Read that when they were dating, Melinda saw a whiteboard in Bill’s bedroom with a list of the pros and cons of getting married. I hope Melinda then returned the favor with her own board listing the pros and cons of staying married!

The difference between you & Bill Gates is that you didn't write it on a whiteboard. EVERYONE does this mentally. Is this man good for me...as a husband, a father, a lover, etc. or not. EVERYONE. BTW...married 40 years here.

There is no pro to a man getting married. Women, yes plenty of pros. They get financial security by divorcing. No fault laws make this possible.

No, more specially, Melinda's board had to have the pros and cons of marrying Bill Gates

My grandparents finalized their divorce just before my parents got married. Their marriage was awful, and they cheated on each other. My grandma ran off with my grandpa's (still married) best friend, leaving my dad and his brothers to be raised by my grandpa. She returned, asked for a divorce and tried to buy back her sons' affection. Now, I didn't know any of this growing up. In fact, they were best friends once their divorce was done...to the point that I didn't know they were ever married or divorced when I was growing up. They didn't act like they had ever been married, and they certainly didn't act like they had gotten divorced. They never put up walls or made us compartmentalize our relationship as a family. They spent holidays together with us. They visited each other. And my grandma cared for my grandpa following his stroke until he died (even though he had remarried, but that b*tch disappeared.) I just always thought they'd been friends.

My first marriage lasted 7 years. My 2nd is at 36 1/2 years and still going strong. Most of my family members who were married twice are still with their 2nd spouse. Only one got divorced after about 24 years of marriage (their first marriage lasted about four years)
