Just another reason why I side-eye the people who say “But he goes to CHURCH!” Ma’am? So do priests…along with a whole congregation that will cover up their nasty deeds. Going to church doesn’t make anyone a good person.

Absolutely this. All the churchy people I've known throughout my life were the biggest hypocrites on earth. Even the nice ones who didn't try to force their religions down other people's throats would still do all the things that you're not supposed to do as a christian. ( case in point: a good friend at uni who drank and partied with me, and who would have one night stands frequently). By now if someone says "oh, but he goes to church!" It's simply the timing. Coleman's case was at the beginning of the social media age. Facebook was still in it's infancy. Dr. Grande, I think the reason the Watts case caught the zeitgeist and not the Coleman case is because of the Netflix special, the fact their lives were captured on video like a movie from their wedding forward, the strong social media presence and appeal of Shanann and the kids, and lastly, the horrifying manner of the disposal of the remains. The Coleman case has none of these characteristics despite the similarity of the crimes.

This Watts case was huge from day one. As soon as Chris did his sermon on the porch interview, it went viral. The case was all over the news and social media after that. This case has been huge on FB and YT from the beginning, and still is. The news stopped the daily coverage after he plead, but even now, as new info comes out they report on it. The documentary may have made this case even more well known, but it was huge from the beginning.

I mean, if we are talking about Christianity, it's not that God needs money, it's that He encourages Christians to be generous with their money. God isn't opposed to wealth at all - because money is neutral. It's actually the love of money that He hates because He wants His followers to be generous with their wealth - to give to the poor, the widow, the orphans, the needy. Use it to bless others in need. Anyone who uses their beliefs - Christianity or not - to gain and hoard wealth for themselves is a heretic.
