What's the bigger disaster, climate change or the charity single Lil Dicky released to (sorta, kinda, not really) raise awareness? (Support Todd on Patreon! / toddintheshadows )

considering animation is a lengthy process that requires lots of time, it would be really hard for any animators to dedicate this much time to a project they arent being paid to do. especially if they could take other projects to do in that time instead that would help them pay their bills. its a bit harder to be a no-name animator and pass up a paycheck than a wealthy celebrity who has to sing a couple lines and will get good press for helping charity. idk for sure though, but i highly doubt the animators agreed to do this for free.

@@ky9933 I am not German, nor Jewish, but my thing is it's just not the time/place even if it's a "positive" message. Aside from it being completely out of place it's a rushed ass comedy song so it definitely feels like it's actually a cheapshot/condescending backhanded compliment, like that's just the FIRST thing he could think of is drag them through the mud of their completely ashamed past. it's at very least tone deaf. If he said that kind of sentiment genuinely at a holocaust museum or on some day related to the holocaust, then that's a whole 'nother story. Also the fact that he says WE instead of I, like I doubt anyone still holds a grudge, but the fact that he's blanketing an entire religion like that like "we ALL feel this way", like ffs, every single person on earth has different feelings about it, you can only speak for yourself. of course I'm looking at this through the completely cynical lens of this review TBF.

One could argue that a charity song like this harms the environmental movement because it supports the idea that charities and large, moneyed organizations or people are the ones who can "save us" from ecological collapse rather than the average person who takes direct action against industrial agents, who are the real culprits.

That's a huge problem with a lot of charity stuff - it tells the average person to do something about it when clearly the people who SHOULD be doing things are governments and large corporations, especially when it comes to pollution, where a fuck-ton of it comes from places like China who lack government oversight.

Here's a fun fact for you: Leaded gas is still used in most 3rd world and developing nations and most of their cars do not have anything approaching modern emmisions equipment, leaded gasoline is extremely destructive to the environment. So much so that we banned it in the west almost 60 years ago, maybe if we started applying pressure to those countries to do their part by stepping into the modern world we created in the early 1970's when we banned that stuff and force them to set the same standards we have for emissions equipment we could actually get somewhere "fighting" global warming.

That's not all! You see, when mating season comes along, the male giraffes want to, y'know, mate, but they also want to have kids so they can pass their DNA to a new generation. So when a male giraffe sees a female, he walks along behind her bumping his head into her ass until she starts urinating. Then, when the female finally starts pissing, the male smells and/or drinks the urine while she is passing that urine in order to look for a specific hormone in the urine that indicates that the female can get pregnant. Giraffes _literally have the perfect sort of material_ for the type of song Lil Dicky's _Earth_ was going for, yet the only thing the writers could think of was "I'm A gIrRaFfE, wHaT's WiTh tHiS nEcK???" But, still, it's bottom-of-the-barrel. I mean, hell, if they could get Sia to sing a saucier line or do something better than just being a kangaroo, then it might be a tad more into the parody-type aesthetic which would make it a little more tolerable. I mean, if the song started as the concept of musicians singing a line as an animal (or mushroom, or marijuana plant, or such) then maybe actually have verses for the guest-vocalists.
