I don't like this song, but this is one of Todd's best reviews. I love it when people start off trying to trash something, but then slowly 180 and force themselves to admit they like it (it has to be genuine though).

@salm-wt3wm7 жыл бұрын
I know it's an old comment, but I think it's a bit of both. As far as his videos are concerned I am pretty sure they are scripted. However, that doesn't mean that as he was coming up with the script for the video he didn't have or couldn't have had a turn around on the song. So, while the episode may be contrived for comedic effect, I do think he probably did change his mind about the song.

It was actually Louis Tomlinson from the band who was responsible for the change of their sound from cheesy bubble gum pop of their first two albums to guitar driven pop rock kind of sound from the third album onwards. He fought for creative control and wrote 37 songs (90%) of their entire discography, hence a massive improvement in the lyrics.
@pastelskies994 жыл бұрын
@@manashibht yet he still gets the most shit, we would still be listening to bubble gum shit, like yeah for their first 2 albums it works, they are still young, haven't really found their voice yet. but when Midnight Memories came around they were mostly out of their teen phase so it had to sound a bit more mature (you definitely hear it more in Four and MITAM)

*1D in the thirds of the 2010s* One Direction in the early 2010s: A boy band that couldn’t possibly rival the higher quality of past boy bands like BSB, NSYNC. 98 Degrees, A1, and Five judging by the one direction (no pun intended) they were going by pandering to teenage girls and turning them into bieberluvr1234s (yes, I know she’s only been active in 2010 before she got shut down for disrespecting opinions like “Justin Bieber isn’t amazing”) where they would kill you by calling you a “misogynistic teenage man” if you find their favourite works to be mediocre or worse (and would even call you ungrateful if you hate Bayformers because according to them “THEY HAVE EVERYTHING YOU PERVERTS WANT!!!!! STOP HATING BECAUSE YOU CANNOT MAKE A MOVIE LIKE BAY!!!!! AND BY THE WAY, THE WOMEN HE MADE CAN KICK YOUR BIG SORRY ASSES IF YOU TELL US THEY CAN’T!!!!! WHERE IS *YOUR* TALENT DOUCHEBAG MEN?!!!!!”). One Direction in the mid-2010s: Much better than ever before (and yes, it must be because of why Louis deserved better than he got... pop rock music with 1980s sounding influence songs like Stockholm Syndrome)... until it split around 2016. One Direction (in the late 2010s) after it was 1D: Not the best, but not the worst either (except for maybe Pillowtalk).

I also hate when a music video starts with the singer trying to act. Even if the singer is capable of acting, I'm here for the music. Then again, I also get annoyed when a reviewer on the internet begins his review with with a minute-long skit that has nothing to do with the thing he's reviewing and stops the review minutes later to continue that story line with cameos of people I barely know and keeps doing that throughout the review. It's quite jarring.

I absolutely hate the pre-song skit in this. Not because it's useless and unfunny, but because of the evidently false rebellious pretense. Guys, you are the Ewoks of pop music. You exist only because posters and 1D-themed stuff has to be sold to a particular demographic. Accept it, embrace it. An NEVER try to pretend that you just go your own way and say FUCK YOU to THE MAN. Many pop stars do it and I always hated it. The most hilarious instance of this for me was on Czechoslovakian communist TV, when the state-controlled studio created singer Jan Cézar, designed to mimic the New Wave depressed New Romantic rebel of the west and then accompanied him with a voiceover explaining to the audience that he indeed is a true rebel and the thing he rebels against is the western imperialist influence infecting our marvelous socialist society...

Well, if you remember, in the Pick of Destiny Tenacious D actually lost the rock-off. They were just extremely lucky to defeat the Devil. For me this adds another layer to "Tribute." These guys are either so obsessed with their rock icon image that they intentionally lie and pretend they've won, or they are just so stoned that they really forgot how it really was and so delusional about themselves to actually think they played the greatest song in the world...

Woah woah woah. I've agreed with, or at the very least, been able to understand and appreciate your view on pretty much everything I've seen on your channel so far. But the "scourge" of rap album skits? Scourge? I've found these skits to be one of the most unique things about rap albums in general that sets the genre apart all the others. As pioneering as 3 Feet High and Rising was, the skits played such a large role that I don't think the album would carry the weight it does if not for those skits. While De La Souls skits were often simply punctuation between tracks, the skits on Eazy-E's Eazy-Duz-It were every bit as important as the songs themselves as they tied the stories in the songs together, resulting in a unique listening experience. Twenty years later Kendrick and Kanye would use skits in the same manner, adding meaning to the songs each skit was sandwiched between and the whole story of the album. The bowling alley skit on Hail Mary Mallon's "Bestiary," as silly as it was, is an interesting commentary on how today's culture, if only american culture, is so quick to get behind a movement, and get all up in arms over the mistreatment the movements cause, only to entirely abandon it once they lose interest in it or don't care enough to stay involved, then forgotten just as quickly as they joined it. Only two artists from my music collection come to mind that have skits on an album and are not in the rap/hip-hop world. Lard's "Can God Fill Teeth" and a small handful of skits on Naked Raygun's "Last of the Demohicans." While the skits from Raygun are easily forgettable, I found their attempt commendable. However, to this day I still find myself reciting the "Can God Fill Teeth" bit several times a year. I got the album the skit is on, "The Last Temptation of Reid," when it was released in 1990. I guess if an artist puts a skit on an album just for the sake of it being a skit, yeah that's rather dumb. If an artist has skits on an album because it's part of a larger picture, I can't see how that could be considered a scourge.

Actually Tenacious D made very clear, to which song they were comparing

i’m pretty sure that there are two candidates for tribute: it sounds similar to Stairway to Heaven, but they said they were thinking about One by Metallica when they initially had the idea for the song

This is wayyyy late, but thanks for a proper use of "in lieu of". Most people just accidentally say it instead of "in light of", so seeing it used correctly makes me happy.

This is the regular review. The other version was on the Super League of Critics channel which, for wahtever reason were shortened. This is not the only TiTS review that got sliced.

+Alex & Toast It's kinda funny. A little awkward in points, but funny. I watched it a few times a while back.

Continuing with Todd's metaphor around 2:35 One Direction would be the US, and China would be Bieber.

Most pop songs are just "girl I really like you" and "boy, you cheated on me" shit.

Speaking of the song, Kidz Bop Kids did a new one called "Best Time Ever" which is not the title to "Best Song Ever", but it's a different song, and it's for the upcoming "Kidz Bop 35" which will be coming out next month.
