Thanks, Tina. I had started a pair of toe-up socks and wasn’t happy with the heels without additional gussets. My feet aren’t large, but I could see that having gussets would allow the socks to last longer. The tension across the insteps would be reduced by the added stitches from the gussets on each sock. SO CLEAR!!! Even with a different sock pattern, I can see how to adapt the heel and add a gusset to each side of a sock. I appreciate your tutorial, HEAPS!!! Thanks, again. Blessings!❤️

This is the very best video to show me how to knit to up heels , and the best is: with a flap! 'till now l thought that was impossible, ' cause a book called ~ "bible for sock knitting" told me so. I wanna thank you so much! I'll begin right now this evening to do it, ' cause I'm still knitting a toe up sock and l must knit a heel Your way to explain is great! Please excuse me, when my English isn't as well as I want it to be. Thank you so much and be blessed!

Excellent...I'm new to toe-up socks and honestly, I've been avoiding them because I love the heel flap and gusset (it's my favorite part of making the sock) and didn't want to give it up, even with how much I don't like grafting toes (I'm good at it, but I don't like it...I've had socks languish on needles for weeks because I didn't want to graft the toe). Your tutorial and explanations are clear and much appreciated! Now I know I can skip grafting and keep my beloved heel method. Thank you!

I'm hard on socks, and don't like to darn, so I also use the slip-knit pattern on the heel flap as well as the heel turn and following. Since that decreases the row gauge, I knit more rows for the heel flap, picking up for each pair of rows.

This is a brilliant video. I had most of a skein of yarn leftover after knitting a pair of baby socks, and wanted a toe up sock that I could make up quickly (no pattern so I needed to check the size as I went), but wanted the durability and comfort of a padded heel. I love, love, LOVE this heel construction. It is by far the most comfortable I've ever worn, and it was fun to knit.as well. Your instructions were very, very clear, and it was easy to make allowance for my very high insteps. Thank you for sharing this.

What I meant was that your presentation here is perfect for leg-down socks. For toe-up socks, - if my understanding of the term 'toe-up' is correct - you start knitting at the toe-end, right? Consequently, you would have to begin with the smaller part of the heel. Meaning, half of all the stitches, including the gusset increases, are on you heel needle. And that's where a formula is needed... You'll find it by googling and rest assured, it works,I tried it out.
@Bloomingknitter
@Bloomingknitter 9 жыл бұрын
knit now I actually have a cuff down tutorial with heel flap and gusset also, but the way this is done you start with the heel flap on the bottom of the foot and then pick up stitches for the gusset. There are many ways to do this, this tutorial is just one of them.

After watching your video again, I came to the conclusion that the gusset comes first then the heel then the heel flap then the leg or cuff. This way the heel flap will be on the correct end of the heel and not under it.

Thank you for the tutorial. I don’t want to make toe up because I like the cushion on my heel, so this will work well. I am curious, I have learned that you should be knitting socks in a smaller, tighter gauge for a firm fabric to reduce wear. Your gauge is rather loose, do you have issues from friction or any signs of premature wear?

Hi. I need help. I first knit one at a time toe up GSR heel socks on one 9” circular. And then knit Two at a time toe up socks on one long circular using Magic Loop Now I’ve bought two sets of the same size tips (2.5) and two 14” cables so I can knit Two at a time; Toe up socks; using Judy’s Magic Cast On. But on Two Circulars. I found Magic Loop really annoying I can’t find a sock pattern or tutorial for that combination. I’ve been searching and searching but can’t seem to find anything exact. Can you direct me to a pattern with video tutorial (I’m a see-do learner)? Thank you 🙏

Thanks for these great instructions! However, I am knitting 2 at a time toe up magic loop and I got to the gusset pick up stitches and then when it came time to knit across the instep (front), I couldn't because I couldn't position my needles with the second sock on there. I think at a certain point I must knit the heels, gusset ? of both socks at the same time? Please advise when and how I can proceed without taking the other sock completely off the magic loop!!

hi bloom knitter. This is Matt. I love your video and I killed all my frustrations about knitting socks thanks to your video. it's so clear and nicely done. Quick question thought right after you pick up all the side stitches you mention that the K2Tog and SSK decreases gotta be done every other row. I checked several other patterns of cuff down socks and they have you do the decreases on every row and that created a decorative line all the way down to the instep. Is the difference of your instruction and the others bc yours is toe up on magic loop? second if I decrease every other row wouldn't I have a very long instep until I get to my original # of stitches to knit up my cuff? thank u so much for ur time. I love what u do Tina.

You can make two at a time... Magic loop is one way or using just DPNs and the socks are made one inside another... Stitches are made by alternating the yarn for each stitch. Just type 2 sock at a time and vids will pull up and guide you. Good luck!

PrettyDarnRadYT Now that is something that I would like to try at some point, two-at-a-time on DPN. I can't say that I would enjoy it, because as much as I love to watch other people knit on DPNs they are not my favorite. But I think it would be a fun thing to learn.

I found this video kind of confusing. You were out of frame through a lot of the video, especially after the heel turn. It would have been helpful to have a closer and slower view of what you were doing when you started new things, like picking up the new stitches. I also wasn’t even sure if this was the next video in the series because you changed yarns from the first video. Just some constructive criticism from a beginner. I thought the first video was good (starting the toe). This one didn’t work as well for me. I do wish that I could knit as quickly and effortlessly as you!

Unfortunately, in watching your instructions step by step, I had completed the entire 36 rows of knitting (of a 72 stitch sock) to complete your version of the heel flap. Then you commented that if you have an even number of stitches you should leave that extra stitch on the instep. Sorry, just constructive criticism.

Toe up socks don't always look the same as top down. Not necessarily an "error!" - just looks different. Every reinforced heel and heel flap I've done whether toe up or top down differs according to designer and teacher. Some have a reinforced heel including the bottom of the foot, while some just have the top part of the flap. Doesn't make it wrong. Just different. Also, the pattern of the yarn makes it appear "off" with the rest of the sock's patterning.

Wait! Your heel flap is on the wrong side of the heel! A heel flap is on the back of the sock and just before the cuff not Under the sock. This cannot be called a heel flap when it is On the bottom of the foot!

You know, until you mentioned it, I didn't realize I do that. I guess it is something that I picked up somewhere. My apologies. I will try to stop doing that.

@Bloomingknitter please don't change the way that you say the word across as it is a dialect issue and this person really needs to do research before getting ticked off about this. It is a colloquial dialect you are not saying anything incorrectly that is something that is their issue, not your issue, hun. www.quora.com/Why-do-some-people-pronounce-across-like-it-has-a-t-at-the-end
