Japan Go!

Are you looking for an awesome day hike just a stone's throw away from Tokyo? Well, come with us as we explore the secret ruins of Mt Nokogiri. Hidden deep within the mountain forest are some long-lost ruins and one of Japan's most secluded temples. At the top, you can enjoy one of the best views in the Kanto region and peer straight into hell from the treacherous 'Jigoku Nozoki,' an extreme stone platform that protrudes from the top of the mountain at 329.5m high!

Another fantastic and interesting video with brilliant footage of a wonderful location! That view from 'hell' was seriously impressive, Nokogiri really is a hidden gem. Many of those trails and paths reminded me of the forest from Mononoke Hime, just gorgeous. Would be very happy to see more of these types of video from the lesser-seen parts of Japan. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Gary, thanks for watching and liking the video! Yeah, overall it’s one of the most underrated spots around Tokyo. As you say, it’s probably more ‘Mononoke’ than ‘Laputa’ but either way, it’s definitely got a Ghibli vibe 😁 p.s. We restarted our podcast! - Yasu

I went there a few years ago, what a great day trip. That train station was almost abandoned looking, i was the only one there and it was on the honor system. Sad, more people should see this treasure.

Sorry I didn't see your comment until now! It took around 2-2.5 hours for us to get to the top but we were stopping constantly to film aha. And yes! We did see the dai-butsu (large buddha statue) on the way down. - Julian

Once an angel fell in love with a human whom she saw while she was playing with the clouds. She travelled to earth and met him. But like all men, who could not tolerate angelic beauty and intelligence, he feared her and ran away. With the broken heart, she returned to heavens. But the god was angry as she crossed the limits and one of the important rules of the holy life - Don't interfere with earthy lives until they pray for. So the god cursed her to become a golden fish and she fell into the Mt Nokogiri. She cried and a pond formed around her. The water will be salty to whom who knows what true love means. For others, it will be one more pond and one more pool. Every night she turned into a woman and look the city from the top in a full view. In the daytime, she turned into fish and has to spend her curse days lonely, very lonely. You can see her at 5:14.

OMG!!! @ 5:15 do you hear the sound that Koi is making??????!!!!!!????? IT'S SO LOUD!!! How did they not say ANYTHING about it????!!??! At first I didn't know what it was, but then I thought it had to be a bird - perhaps a woodpecker? But then I noticed the sound changed exactly when the fish moved, so that makes me think it REALLY IS THE KOI making that strange sound! WOW!!!!!!!!
