I only single sleeve so mine fits five decks which is perfect for me, but honestly had I known about this it would have been a hard consideration. I bet the center bar in the fourtress is actually pretty important for preventing minor bowing, and thus keeping the plastic latch tightly sealed I just made a deck box out of some boxes that halloween decorations came in. A bit of hot glue in the corners and to double-layer the walls, and then coated in a mix of pva glue and a little water, they come out super strong and of course basically free, if you have the free time to fiddle with something while watching youtube or whatever. The fasteners are the weakest point, but you naturally treat your own work more carefully than things you buy and expect durability, so it comes up less than it otherwise might
@stehlik3 жыл бұрын
Agree this must be the reason. Looks quite solid, as opposed to similar one from Dragon Shield which is made from acrylic and the lid on it likes to crack very easily under quite minor pressure. This looks much more durable.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but the middle wall on the Fourtress likely plays a significant role in preventing the walls from bowing and therefore keeps the latch engaged and helps avoid compressing your cards.
@gundummies3 жыл бұрын
I think it's understandable that the fortress' middle partition isn't removable. I think it helps with it being more rigid and sturdy overall. I think it's a good compromise given that it's still plastic at the end of the day. :)

I'm pretty new to MTG and my first deck box was a Dragon double. I've never had an issue but I don't use it everyday either. I recently purchased a Satin Tower for about 13.99 because it was the cheapest box with a dice compartment to hold my deck. I was going to purchase a Boulder but opted for the Ultra Pro version of a Boulder (slightly smaller Satin Tower without dice box) because it was 9.99. I also tried to find a Stanley or DeWalt tool box but they were hard to find and 30 to 50 bucks with a lot on ebay. I went to Harbor Freight to buy a very similarly capable tool box for 13.99. I also have one 500 cardboard storage box. I tried to use my old medic jump bag, which has promise, but it would be a better deck box storage with plenty of room for playmats and such. I can't wait to see where I end up next buy when I can spare the change. Thank you Professor for all you do!

To anyone that remembers 3-4 years back - Dragon Shield Inner Sleeves, used to be thin enough to fit a full double-sleeved deck into a Bolder Deckbox. It struck me as a little silly to comment on the new foils being thicker cards, but not comment on the change in the formulation of dragon-shield sleeves impacting the "no longer fits in a Boulder" problem.
@KuroKitten3 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong, because I don't use the regular Dragon Shield Inners anymore, but I believe it's just the newer Resealable Inners that no longer fit in a Boulder - which makes sense, because each sleeve includes 1 extra layer of plastic per sleeve.
@JaysonMaxwell3 жыл бұрын
@@KuroKitten unfortunately no - they changed the formulation form 40 micron to 60 micron a while before that. Even the Professors earlier videos acknowledged that DragonShield's inner sleeves allowed you to double sleeve into a boulder, but just barely. Great video as always, Professor. I'd like to give you some insight into the Gamegenic Fourtress. Those boxes were being made by a german supplier Blackfire under their own brand. When some time last year Asmodee Group - the parent company of the Gamegenic brand - bought Blackfire they took over their design and released as their own under the Gamegenic brand only changing the logo on the lid. There's nothing wrong with that obviously, but they also increased the price by roughly 50% which isn't that great. They previously cost about 4.35 Euro for the Blackfire 4-compartment box and the rebranded Gamegenic Fourtress costs roughly 6.5 Euro at my local game store.

I was disappointed with the prism box until I realized I was putting the cards in the wrong way - facing the same direction as the lid rather than on their side so they don’t spill out. I recently switched over to using the Dragon Shield deck boxes. They easily take a newly double sleeved commander deck without any of the air removed, with space for penny sleeved tokens. Also using the Dragon Shield Perfect Fit Sealable. So the decks are a little bit extra thick. I already had two of the Dragon Shield Magic Carpet,the normal and xl versions, and these boxes for really nicely in there, 3 to a row with room to spare. While the teeth did catch for me in the beginning, simply squeezing the inner plastic while closing easily solves this problem, other than just closing the deck boxes a bit slower.

So, I see that the Professor's new exercise plan involves stuffing deck boxes with cards and waving them in the air up and down!

Great reviews as always. I personally enjoy the Dragon Shield double boxes and have bought a few of them. The price is right, they are fun to look at and use, and they hold 2x 60-card double-sleeved Pokemon decks perfectly. The jagged teeth haven't given me too many issues yet.

get a red prism, a white prisim, ink the inner lip to black. Blam, pokeball deck box.

Thanks you prof. I am thinking of changing my deck boxes to BCW PRISM

I dunno, I really dig the Double Shell boxes after using them quite a bit. There's plenty of extra room for tokens or maybeboard cards you're saving for later. I think the complaint about the toothy design is valid, but a little exagerrated here; they're not especially hazardous to close or move around.

I don't have a need to replace my trusty Boulder and Side Winder (and my gf got me a lovely handmade leather one as well,) but it's nice to see some good new options for when I inevitably work towards having a few pauper and/or pioneer decks.

Yes, deckbox review! I'm so engaged with this content. One could say I'm quite... content.

Hmm, those BSW Prism boxes are really winning me over! May need to check those out and wishlist a few for my next major MtG purchase spree!

I still use the old faithful Ultrapro satin towers for my commander decks. Those Prisms look pretty nice though, I may grab one.
