probably in varying degrees. and even that can change when the relationship is put to the test. a bigger question would be: how can anyone call an organization a religion (or defend it) when they test a parent's love/dedication to their children by forcing them to make that choice?

Love; as defined by Xenuites is not what anyone else who can function in society experiences. Love for a puppy or a pet rock has as much meaning to them as that for a fellow human. It's about self and all others can fend for themselves. Cruise is locked in and has faith in himself and is full of himself. His kids are better off without his madness in their lives.

TC's love for his kids seems highly conditional. His adopted kids are in Scientology, and he's turned them against Nicole Kidman. His daughter, in particular, is all-in, and he seems very proud of that. Meanwhile, he seems to be out of Suri's life completely. Which is better for her.

No Andrew, as the Mother of 2 adult children, the attachment you feel for your newborn cannot be put into words. For me, it was a visceral feeling that you cannot fight against. People can divorce from their partner, however, once you become a parent it is forever. Think about this before you bring a child into this world.

I like your point about feeling that instant love for your child. That it might be a learnt feeling. It was not instant in my case. The relief of him being born and the labour being over was. Realization of a huge responsibility came next. Tenderness. Love was later once I started getting to know him. I spoke to other moms and I was not alone in this. So I find it is an interesting subject - how scientologists take it, what do they feel after a child is born and how much their beliefs affect it.
@aderynzajicova7230
@aderynzajicova7230 Жыл бұрын
I think every birth is different in this as in so much else. Depending on the birth and everything else going on around it can determine whether or not you bond instantly. I did with one but it took longer with the other. It should be a reality that is recognised and even expected so parents don't experience unnecessary guilt.
@Old_Scot

Isn't it a feature of cults to distort family life? Polygamous communities are very patriarchal, and notoriously frequently disown their adolescent sons because they don't want competition for young girls preventing old men from trading their daughters to each other. US states where polygamy thrives end up with thousands of teenage boys rejected by their families. And, by the way, I agree that we learn to love our children. The historian Lawrence Stone wrote about Elizabethan England. He suggested that a society with a high rate of infant mortality almost "hold off" loving their babies because they can't be sure they would survive.

I think your a man. Women biologically are suppose to breastfeed which shrinks their uterus and nourishes their child. To properly do so, breastfeed, releases love hormones and the bond is made.
@jdice6868
@jdice6868 Жыл бұрын
It's natural, but not instantaneous, and it is different for everyone. Postpartum hormones can promote the connection in mothers, or in a few cases, block it. In fathers, it can happen quickly or over time. There is no right way or wrong way, so long as you provide security, nutrition, safety, warmth, love, etc.

From the moment that I knew my children were coming into the world I was excited. I loved them and nurtured them while I carried them and love them more everyday that I have them in my life. I hope that parents in the Scientology church feel the same way and love their children. I think about the number of abortions that the sea org members do and have done. Those children didn't get a chance to be born. This was an interesting discussion and definitely is a very open ended question.

I think you are both very intelligent people, and I would one day like to have my own channel, and interview each of you separately. One of my questions would be around why you would generally categorize and/or take as fact, the stereotypes of the various workers states -- in this podcast it would be saying China would drown children re. the one child policy. You are not atypical for westerners to hang on to such stereotypes and inaccuracies, but I expect better. I don't really expect an answer here or ever, but perhaps one day. It is a goal. Love you both.

Hi Kim, the point was that it happened. It happened in China. There are many other examples of humans doing bad things to their children too. That's why I mentioned others. 6:30 Oh well what can you do? 🤣 OMG. Quintessentially British. But, really these cults re-enforce narcissistic tendencies, and properly ignore bad parenting. I remember now, these looks from adults from when I was young, under 13. I didn't know how to interpret them, but it was looks of worry and pity. That's how bad my parents were, but in a cult you don't report on people to the authorities. When I was 13 we changed congregations, and those worrying looks went away. I think because the new congregation was more callous and didn't care.

Cruise is very committed to his projects as an actor but he has been wealthy and famous and in scientology for so long that he surrounds himself with yes people and he is so used to getting his ass kissed all of the time that he doesn't seem to know how to handle it when someone challenges or disagrees with him. He seems to have a my way or the highway attitude in his personal life. And he seems to have no issues with phasing people out who aren't going along with scientology or marching to the beat of his drum. And unfortunately this seems to extend to family and even his children in certain instances.

I guess he didnt know or believe the Bible stating to beware of false prophets and also how children are so precious to the Lord and he judges very strongly if one mistreats a child which is what he has done to all three, I guess it is more important for him to have Niscaviage be his yes man and praise him and kiss his behind Tom is a waste of a human body They say Narcissist end up alone Even then his arrogant self righteous self will never admit he was the cause of the hurt he has inflicted No sympathy for him It will be good riddance!!!

Personality disorders may trump parental love, but for most mothers emotional bonding with an infant is immediate and overwhelming. Can political, patriarchal, religious and cult socialization interfere with or distort it? Sure. But maternal/ infant bonding is our human default setting. I can’t speak for men, though it seems pretty powerful and immediate for most of the men I’ve known. Let’s not generalize the pathological as the normal. It might be the average, but it’s not the normal.

his relationship to his other children is quite close and I guess its difficult to have/keep a connection if you are in this scientology-bubble and you cannot involve your child. from his point of view he doesn't know what to do and to talk to her. I think its interesting that tom cruise often is looked at in a more critical way than others. I don't like that and I do believe a lot of the things are true, but I sense "bully" way when its about him.

Scientologists love just like other people do, because they're humans. They may be taught that basic human emotional needs are wrong, that they're the result of engrams or body thetans or whatever that need to be audited out. That makes the religion all the more torturous to live under because it means that just doing fundamentally human things can mess up your case on the whole track and lead to increased sec checks and having ethics put in on you for your O/Ws, etc.
@steelpainter
@steelpainter Жыл бұрын
A spectrum of variability in attachment to biological children is normal in healthy families is normal. Some parents feel overwhelming love the millisecond they first lock eyes on their newborn and go through early parenthood on an easy, oxytocin-powered autopilot. Some parents, especially mothers, struggle with post-partum depression and even though they love their children deeply and would sacrifice their lives for them, struggle with periods of immense frustration and self-doubt about their role as parents. We're all different - and as in all aspects of human behaviour, there is a percentage of tragic dysfunction. While genetics and hormones play a huge role, cultural norms exert a much larger force on how we approach parenthood than we might feel comfortable admitting. The twentieth century has seen a massive drop in infanticide in many countries - it was shockingly common only 150 years ago. Google Infanticide if you wish to know more. I feel, as we progress as a species, our parenting is improving enormously, albeit forwards, backwards, forwards again. Socially isolating authoritarian cults are a backwards pull.

If you don't like scientology so much, why not go after or expose the religion rather than continually make this channel a gab or rumor session about Tom ? Tom happens to be a great entertainer. I never see him spouting off his political views on social media or really complaining in general about anything at all. He's paid by fans like me for his art and nothing more. What is the personal vendetta against Mr Cruise ? This channel is so bizarre. Did he wrong you personally somehow ? Why the hate for one guy rather than the group who are misleading so many ?

@@AndrewGold1 I happen to be an atheist myself however didn't feel it relevant to my criticism. Since you brought it up, I would agree that I too feel this is a cult as most religions are. It just seems strange that you're targeting Tom himself with a kind of water cooler or back room trash talking session. I don't know Tom personally and I'm no fan of following any organized religion / cult, but I struggle to make the connection between you having what seems like a personal issue with Tom himself rather than the group he belongs to. Tom has probably been struggling with personal issues for years and this is his therapy, even though many of us, you and I included, think this is a terrible group to be a part of. I guess my point is why not target the cult itself than the poor guy who is blindly following along ? Tom's mind, I'm sure, has been altered by this group. I would want to help the poor guy rather than criticize him. I'll keep watching your channel in hopes you can clarify your end goal with these videos. To address your last statement about '...scientology is as bad as it gets.' I couldn't disagree more my friend. The worst it gets is the death cult that is Islam. I know that statement will anger a lot of people but Islam is the most destructive 'religion' mankind has made-up.
