Tom did not bust CCR! There was a lot of friction caused by straight out misunderstanding because they didn't talk to each other the way they should have. They are by no means alone there.

You use the term second fiddle. If you read how CCR started in the 1st place they were all supposed to be equal. John on the basis of talent was the rightful leader but he should never have treated his brother and the others as his slaves. He is singing a different tune now with his kids I'm glad to say.

Tom and John are very diplomatic. The conflict between them is as old as Cain and Abel. Songwriters, whether it’s the Beatles or The Band, make the most money and incur the most hostility because they dominate. John wouldn’t let Tom contribute, like Lennon and McCartney stifled George. Tom said Saul Zaentz, who was using the royalties from CCR’s songs to finance his movies and was John’s mortal enemy, was his friend. No bigger betrayal.

*PlanetRockJesus* Yea, the other members of CCR should have thanked their lucky stars that John Fogerty was such a major talent. Without him, they would have gone absolutely nowhere in the music business. But instead of thanks, they sided with the very guy (Saul Zaentz) that screwed John Fogerty over. Lets face it, John was the only real talent in the band, with his song writing abilities, and great vocals...the other 3 were replaceable.

When I heard Tom call Saul his friend, I felt sympathy for John. Speaking highly of the one man who made off with millions of the band's money.. I could see why John tried so hard to forgive Tom but just couldn't do so until after his passing because his own brother befriended his worst enemy. It's a tragic story.

@@hps69 I believe the reason Tom Fogerty thought so much of Zaentz is he gave Tom the opportunity to record & sing & produce his own music. Unfortunately for Tom, his music was not a good fit for Creedence Clearwater Revival!, John knew this, Tom couldn’t accept it. Nevertheless, Saul Zaentz was the prime reason the break-up of the band! He used the old “divide & conquer” technique to bring the band to their knees.

Tom Fogerty seems like a decent guy and very honest. I’m not sure what kind of conflict he had with his brother internally and psychologically. Here he sounds like he appreciates his brothers singing and writing talents and yet because he was the older brother he must have felt belittled by his role in Creedence just playing rhythm guitar 🎸 and singing backup vocals to his younger brother. He did sell out his interest along with the other two to Saul Zaentz who was Fogertys worst enemy! Is that how you pay back your brother for bringing you along for a wild ride of fame and fortune? I’m sorry he died a tragic death but I’m also sad that they never reconciled because forever is a long time. In fact, all three of them betrayed John and John wrote and sang all the hit songs that brought them all to the big dance. He even shared the royalties 4 ways for the first four albums! That was a mistake! They sure paid him back but not with gratitude but with betrayal! Unreal!

@@unstrung65John has stated, publicly, that yes, John & Tom did co- write songs in their “ Blue Velvet” days, however, John stated that Tom was “stuck” in the 50’s style of writing & John was more progressive as a writer, then Tom. Thus, they no longer wrote songs or arranged & produced music as a team.

Why not He's such a huge part of the Creedence legacy and a proven thief. For example... The movie one flew over the cuckoo's nest was a huge sucess, Johns share of creedences royaltys were used to fund the film. Saul was sued post haste for roughly what the film initially grossed and lost. Now I'm not saying John is a saint, He is and was a Megalomaniac but for good reason I believe. He wrote produced arranged played multiple instruments and sang all of the hits and he taught novice musicians how and what to play They couldn't be happy riding the wave of success that John's music brought them and "Mardi Gras" was the result. Because of this He went from being this naive kid sharing the wealth which he didn't have to do and He completely flipped and shut them all out and in the process caused himself a world of hurt emotionally in the long run and Saul took full advantage of his Naivety.

After listening to this interview, To Me he’s a lot like His Brother John only less Bitter. Only because Tom , like Doug and Stu , didn’t get basically screwed by Saul Zaentz when Tom said”My friend Saul Zaentz “ It told the story. Sad to say . Regardless, Tom Fogerty seems like a level head sincere Guy. I could listen to him talk all day. Same as John. Doug and Stu on the other hand, I have a hard time listening to. They seem to be all about money. As in Creedence Clearwater Revisited. Playing songs they didn’t write or produce. Basically a cover band. Nothing original. Like Stu Cook said “ just give Me the money “. Making a living off another Man’s Tallent. 🤔

All 3 of them, Tom Stu and Doug, they all envied John and eventually sided with the greedy dog Saul Zaentz. According to John, he made a few attempts to reconcile with Tom mostly on behalf of their mother, but still Tom refused and acted immature by constantly siding with Saul. Of course, that's John's side of the story but if it's true word for word then that's pretty sad.. Either way, John still came out on top as the more well known and more successful member out of the 4 through his continued solo career.
