@shawnkelly35425 жыл бұрын
@@tyvulpintaur2732 that's true too, but that's where the faith part comes in. Personally every atheist who used to be religious that I've spoken to about it has said that they walked away because of the hypocrisy. You can have your own personal belief in god A, B, or C, but if the other people in the religion aren't actually following in the beliefs or even the "spirit" or idea of the religion it makes it very difficult to be a part of that organization. For example, the pastor who cheats on his wife, but then gets up every Sunday to condemn that very act isn't really someone who you are going to listen to. I walked away from mine when I realized that there was an underlying subtle hatred of anyone deemed "different." Christians in particular should be Christ like, right? Helping their fellow man, helping the needy, tending the sick, etc. Yet most are massively self centered and think that simple belief in their God somehow puts them on a pedestal above the masses, while never sacrificing or doing a single "Good works" that helps anyone other than themselves or those close to them. Now, I'm not saying that they should be going out and spending every dollar they have to help others, but the arrogance they seem to hold toward others of "lesser station" or people who have made mistakes in their past just turned me off to the whole thing. Nowadays after reading many different religious texts I would say I lean more toward Buddhism than any other organized religion, mostly because it is about improvement of self, and thru that improvement of your surroundings and community. But that's just leaning, not really going full dive. Sorry about the paragraph lol

I never dreamed of having kids of my own that would watch it too, but my 6 year old son (by his choice) just absolutely has to watch Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood almost every night right before bed. We pull it up on the TV app KZbin, my phone or his tablet and we watch it together or he watches it with his granny. Since this habit started, he’s yet to have another nightmare in his sleep. The peace it brings to his mind before bed is amazing and I’ll forever be grateful for Fred Rogers.

Fred Rogers may be the closest thing to a "Christ-like" figure that anyone alive right now will ever know of. This was a man who genuinely cared for others and sought the good and humanity in absolutely everyone. There wasn't an ounce of judgment in his body. He lived to foster understanding and in particular to assure those just starting to become aware of themselves as individual people (ie - young kids) that their feelings mattered and were important. And not in a participation trophy, everything's ok kind of way. But just in acknowledging the fundamental truth that we are all beings created with fundamental similarities and we all benefit from knowing that what we think and feel matters. Buy stock in the Kleenex corporation now. There's gonna be a spike in sales when this movie comes out. I recently lost a good friend to suicide and that individual posted something to Twitter on the day of his death that in retrospect was very Fred Rogers-like that I'll end with and encourage others to do. #PropSomeoneUpToday

It wasnt until just recently that I realized how emotional I felt about Mr. Rogers because he reminded me what it felt like to be golden, perfect, loved. I mean, we move so far away from that as we grow; school, friends, bullies, work, everything and everyone really. To be an adult and to be reminded of what it feels like to be loved unconditionally, or valued or important, is beyond description. Occassionally a pet will make you feel like that, but a human????? thats damn rare.

If people were closer to the Church today, and understood that Mr. Rogers was an Ordained Presbyterian minister who's ministry was aimed at the well being of children.... it all makes perfect sense. But because it was aimed at the secular world though public television, he couldn't come right out and confess Christ or the Bible. It worked though, because Mr. Rogers taught us what Jesus did. "Thou shalt Love the Neighbor as thyself." ~ Matthew 22:39. Our World needs a lot more of what Mr. Rogers taught.

If the church was more Christ-like and Christians actually followed Jesus' examples people probably wouldn't be abandoning religion in droves in modern times. Not saying there aren't true Christians out there but it seems like they are harder and harder to find nowadays. Everyone is caught up in some kind of hate. Anti lgbtq, racism, sexism, take your pick. Jesus walked with prostitutes and brought food to lepers. Even as a child, I didn't watch the show to be entertained. I didn't find it very entertaining most of the time. I hated those puppets. I didn't even watch it for the life lessons he taught. I was already too old to derive any benefit from most of them. I knew them already. I watched it for HIM. For Mister Rogers, and the way that he made me feel. He touched my heart like nobody else could. Every time. Even at this moment, thinking about him and his gentle, loving voice simultaneously makes me feel warm and loved, and makes me cry. I appreciate an actor who has to go through a journey to understand and respect the person they're playing. Those early biases like feeling too old or bored by something can become deep rooted if you don't have a reason to revisit them. Maybe he didn't need the quiet as a kid like a lot of us did. Maybe he'd already internalized the societal norms of not talking about your feelings. The fact that playing Mr. Rogers has made him a better communicator NOW is a gift in itself. That tells me Fred did his job, and Tom did his and I am SO excited to see this movie.

I'll be honest. Tom Hanks is a phenomenal actor because from the trailers I've seen of this movie, which made me cry, he embodied who Fred Rogers was/is but in this interview... Hanks is not a Mister Rogers person and that's okay not everyone is but he doesn't get what the show was about, who it was for, I'm not even sure he really understands what Fred Rogers' mission truly was. Anyone can say "It was a show with puppets for 2-5 year olds. Feelings were important to Mister Rogers". I'm glad he did his research. Again, he did a great acting job. I'm just disappointed because Fred Rogers is an important reality to me and to millions of others (adults as well as kids) but obviously not important to Tom Hanks. He is carrying a responsibility not just an honor with this role and I thought he could have showed something akin to reverence. He looked bored and bordered on making fun of the "Neighborhood" with some unnecessary comments.

Rachel A. I actually can't get myself to see this film for this reason, and as well, because physically I find Tom's mannerisms, even the strength of his voice and movements, seemingly completely opposite to Fred Rogers. I know I would only watch it and think the whole time "thats not how that was" or "Mr Rogers never would have done it like that". Tom Hanks is great, but I would have preferred someone a bit more similar in vision and in breadth of understanding of this role. For some reason, Ewan McGregor instantly comes to mind as someone I might have cast. Not sure why.

I never grew up with Mr Rogers but absolutely love this movie, it has such heart, such a beautiful message, it doesn’t sugar coat anything or anyone. Mr Rogers is not an infallible hero here but he is an amazing human being, and the story being told about grief and forgiveness and all facets of human emotion and virtues and vices. For me its an absolutely classic, it carries so much therapeutic weight, its a bit like a Good Will Hunting sort of film, its sorely underrated considering it seems it barely made any money, and besides critical praise ive never heard ppl mention it since. Of course its amazing because its about Mr Rogers but its a wonderfully written film, it could’ve easily been cheesy or schmaltzy or just been about Mr Rogers himself, and ppl would’ve been fine with that, the amazing thing is that the movie is mostly about some guy no one’s heard of rather than the namesake and yet it absolutely works for the story. It didn’t depend on Mr Rogers as a symbol to carry the film but it incorporated him into a deep emotional story.

That was always his style. That was the captivation. You speak, then you give them a chance to decide. That is what mattered to all of we children that were lost or confused and didn't really know. He waited for us. He was patient. He gave us time to find the words.

I think this proves we need a Tom Hanks show. To look forward to seeing Tom Hanks after a tough week. I’m pretty sure he’s never done a show, so this would be a perfect opportunity.

@Nancy Lanno THanks is a suspicious character and I refuse to associate him with Mr. Rogers. I agree he's a good actor and am truly disappointed. Hate Hollywood now. : (

I can only imagine how/what Fred Rogers would have to do to try to explain to kids right now the world and the mess we are in now (and I am not just talking about the situation in Washington). I'm sure it would give even him a stroke.

Anyone else just ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE with Tom Hanks?!?!?!!?! The greatest actor of our time, easily. I have zero interest in Mr. Rogers, but I will most definitely be seeing this.

I always thought Jim Parsons would have made a good Mr Rogers, because of his way of speaking, his cadence, and he can sing and play the piano, but for this role I think he would have been too young looking, and actually Tom Hanks looks pretty darn good! I think he won me over.
@stevebragg42565 жыл бұрын
Parsons would be better for a younger Mister Rogers. But at the time this story is set, Fred was in his 60s and just 3 years from retiring.
